US Steel announces layoffs days after Trump touts tariffs

CNN's Vanessa Yurkevich reports the US Steel announcement that it will temporarily lay off around 200 workers in Michigan, has left many in the community confused and shocked.
The move comes just over a week after President Donald Trump claimed at a campaign event that his tariff policy is helping save the steel industry.

    1. Stagnant wages. Farmers on government assistance. Layoffs. Mines continuing to close. Looming recession. White terrorists and mass shooters roaming the streets invoking trump’s rhetoric. Remember when trump said with him as president we were going to get so tired of winning?

    2. Tariffs Are like going to the gym and working out. No pain no gain…
You’re going to have to suffer through to build those big muscles. By the way, you pay zero tariffs if you start shopping and buying American made goods. Why don’t you stop making China great again and start making America great again. I know you Libtard’s hate America, but for once in your life just trying to put American citizens and manufacturing first. BUY American MADE only…
And that idiot Obama let China rip us off for eight years. And still our intellectual properties. But do you libturds want more Obama back continuing to send jobs overseas to China and screwing the American worker. I am learning trying to rip us off for decades… allowing them to manipulate their currency unfairly against the American dollar…And you idiots always scream about your pay, low wages, and better jobs in America? Wtf???

Just another proof liberalism is a mental disorder

    3. He is so deluded he probably thinks he needs to put on more and higher tariffs after all he is the chosen one . LOL

  1. it doesn’t surprise me that a sociopath would take advantage of desperate people to further himself. that’s what they do.

  2. And so it begins. Mr Trump what industry are you going to brag about so that we can get ready for it’s closure. Oh let me guess it’s Obama’s fault

    1. Overstock CEO resigns after disclosing romance with Russian agent… Yes, that’s right…he admitted he was helping with espionage during the elections…

    2. @Lee Gagliardi Yeah, just like Trump getting his yacht, cars and houses repossessed by the IRS. That was his smart master deal. It was his brilliant long-term strategy to go bankrupt 6 times.

    3. @Gary R Why are you guys continually talking about Hillary? Here is an update: she’s not President!!!

  3. But trump said he alone could fix EVERYTHING. Trump said his tariffs were the answer. Trump said he was the MESSIAH. Yesterday. Trump said that. Trump is CHOSEN

    1. @Jack Mason Obama never publicly blamed Bush for anything. If he did, I never heard it. He just came in and rolled up his sleeves and went to work. Trump, on the other hand, blames Obama for everything, when it was Obama who left him with a growing economy, in which Bush practically had ran in the ground and left with huge hole for Obama to dig us out of. Trump is the only president that I can remember who always bring up the past president, whether they were Republican or Democrate. Trump can’t seem to make it pass 3 days without either bringing up Obama or Hillary. Trump is an idiot.

    2. Overstock CEO resigns after disclosing romance with Russian agent… Yes, that’s right…he admitted he was helping with espionage during the elections…

  4. Trump’s tariffs become a boomerang – Trumptards, show your loyalty to your cult leader and enjoy your unemployment!

    1. sloetree, Demand is lowering and you CNNPCs want more cheap Chinese steel coming into the market!
How stupid/self destructive are you idiots anyway?

    1. @GM Newbold : He could be a drug dealer. Or a bartender. Trump has driven many people, inside and out of the administration, to drugs and alcohol. He’s clearly huffing something, Kudlow seems drunk most of the time and you can bet Brett “I like beer” Kavanaugh is having a few.

    2. @Jeff Novack they act as if they are the only ones that have a 401k and that theirs is not affected by the market. Lol….morons!

    1. @Barack Hussein Obama #1fan I know you are going to hear about some still work is being laid off because of these tariffs smh it”s very sad

    2. Fake news CNN Reports there’s a temporary layoff on a few Steel workers yet they ignore just a sampling of a random 110 companies hiring after Trumps tax cuts.

Here are just a few examples:

✅ Big River Steel is investing $1.2 billion in expansion and creating an additional 500 jobs. That means more opportunity for American workers.. A spokesman for the state notes the jobs will pay on average about $75,000 annually
✅ BWX Technologies, Inc. (Ohio and Indiana) — Hiring more than 170 new employees because of tax reform. The company is also investing $210 million in multiple states because of tax reform

✅ Carpenter Technology (Reading, Pennsylvania) manufactures high-performance specialty alloy-based materials and process solutions for critical applications in the aerospace, defense, transportation, energy, industrial, medical, and consumer electronics market
“”With more than 90 percent of our products manufactured in the U.S., this type of capital investment will strengthen our foundation for long-term sustainable growth, provide good-paying jobs “
Carpenter said it estimates the company will save as much as $100 million in taxes over the next five years as a result of the recently enacted Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. The company said those savings will allow it to increase investment in its manufacturing operations over the same time period
✅ Centennial Bolt (Denver, Colorado) manufactures bolts, nuts, screws, rivets, washers:
Because of Trumps Tax Cuts he said : ““I’m mapping out putting in a new plant in the Midwest,” Cordova said. The new product line he plans to launce from that facility “is something right now that’s being manufactured primarily in China. We’re actually going to be at a competitive level to build it in the United States again.” AMERICAN MANUFACTURING IS BACK

Fake News CNN …. do you want need to list the other Trump Tax Cuts job creation 105 or more success stories ??
I can keep going all day

    1. TheMadMardo… lmfao!!! Truth… would like to see the look on their faces when they get there and there is no job anymore! XD! 😂🤣😂

  5. No sympathy for trump voters and supporters! Whatever happens to them because of Trump is their fault! Phuckum!!

    1. @John Griffith Did Hillary do that? or like Trump and Russia, just turn a blind eye to the assistance?
Anything involving Russians is bad or will melt down, always.

    2. @Lee Gagliardi -WHY..???? SO YOU CAN RAG ON THE UGLY S.O.B. AGAIN..?? OR MAYBE YOU ARE HOPING HE WILL TURN OUR COUNTRY INTO A ‘THIRD-WORLD’ SHITHOLE LIKE A LOT OF THE COUNTRIES WE DEAL WITH NOW…….OR MAYBE Y’ALL ACTUALLY WANT TO START WORLD WAR III..
LEE , YOU ARE DEFINITELY A SICK PUPPY……THAT YOUR ” LEADER” WONT TAKE CARE OF……HIS
‘ADMINISTRATION’ WILL LOCK YOU UP SOMEWHERE ALONG ” THE BORDER”….

    3. @pilsung26 Their unemployment doesn’t affect everyone. They pay into it. It’s called unemployment insurance.

  6. I stopped the video after the on-site reporter said that people in the affected community were shocked because they thought the tariffs would be a good thing…
    -Morons!

    1. And clearly they all flunked history class in school. Tariffs are historically and traditionally not a good thing. Strong armed tactics to put another country in their place. These folks should have paid more attention in class.

    1. @RFI-Crypto Lab And 10x more failure in one day than I’ve had in my entire life! If he just put his daddy’s money in the stock market he would be far more successful than all his efforts in real estate.

    2. @Trump 2020 Funny how you posted the exact same thing under your other troll account of “Anderson Cooper.” It’s quite sad to see just how bad you people are at your jobs. Let me give you a pointer. If you are going to come into the CNN comments and post how it is “fake news,” try not to do it on a video showing the person saying the words you are telling us are fake. I mean, really. I hope they’re not paying you too much. Second point (another freebie for you) If you are going to pretend that that the “tax cuts” are anything other than Trump giving his rich friends a payback payoff, you need to remember that the “real” people here whose opinions your are trying to influence have what we call “pay stubs.” We see them. We know it didn’t save us any money. Truck drivers know that they can’t deduct per-diem anymore as they lose hauls because of reduced production caused by the tariffs. They know they have to pay thousands in taxes now to the IRS that won’t release the president’s tax returns even though they are bound by law to do so. You see, we know these things. What else you got Mr. Troll??

  7. And we had to bail out the farmer at a tune of 16 billion from that tariff a tax and spend republicans

    1. And that’s just begun. The contracts those farmers have lost will NOT be coming back. China now buys their soy beans from Russia. After the complete disrespect and buffoonery drumpf has shown to the world, this is just the beginning of the US’s fall.

    1. @Free vaginal Exams true except for trump can’t stop talking about Obama blaming him for everything that’s wrong with his pitiful presidency to rile up his racist deplorable inbreds

    2. red ryno yes because god forbid they take responsibility for their own actions much easier to play victim.

  8. Don’t worry, people. Remember, what you’re seeing and hearing is not what’s happening. Go back to sleep.

    1. @Trump 2020 drumpf lied about his jobs report…he was off by half a million.

      Keep drinking the kool-aid

    2. @Trump 2020 since Trump said “he’s the chosen one” why explain anything. Your new “gawd” will fix all that’s wrong.

    1. @RFI-Crypto Lab Spot on. Per my experience, aerospace manufacturers (under gov contracts) must purchase steel that is sold by US metal suppliers. But guess what? Under that guideline, US metal suppliers can (and do) purchase steel that was actually ‘made’ overseas. Ex: All our steel at my former and latest employer came from India, China, and Hungary. And guess where those countries got their steel from? From junked US metal products, bought on the extreme cheap, melted down, processed, formed, then sold back at a good profit at a cost that US steel products can’t beat. Many, many times I and others have spoken with our US metal suppliers, urging them for parts made from US-made steel. And always the same response: Very difficult to do. One time, one of our suppliers lied to me, assuring me that the order for US-made pipe flanges were indeed made in the US from US steel; nope. They came stamped as having been made in India.

    2. @Pansy Blackwell considering these guys probably dont have the cash for a single month (going by the fact that most Americans dont) id say it doesnt matter in the grand scheme of things for the poor SOBs

    3. I have bad news for you trumpers still industry like the coal industry their never coming back the way it was you can try to make it sound good but all your going to do just make it sound good trump was handed a economy that was booming when he took office not like Obama when he took office the country was in a recession and if you go back and look the damn Republican try to block everything he try doing saving wallstreet and the car company’s he did on his own so don’t try to make a mountain out of a molehill

  9. Trump is keeping his promise. He said he would run this country like he ran his businesses. When are we going to file for bankruptcy?

    1. @DeskAgent No… he’s a liar, and you can’t believe anything a liar says. Have you seen the video where Ivonka tells the story where they were passing a Holmes man and trump said “that guy is 4 billion dollars richer than I am” Smoke a mirrors…. Sure he’s rich, but when you get 400 million to start with, doing well is expected.
