Video shows Half Moon Bay shooting suspect being taken into police custody

At least seven people were killed and one person critically injured in shootings in two separate locations in a small coastal community in central California, becoming the state’s second mass shooting in three days, officials said.

The suspect, identified as 67-year-old Chunli Zhao, was taken into custody more than two hours after the shootings in Half Moon Bay Monday, according to San Mateo County Sheriff Christina Corpus. Authorities believe Zhao acted alone.

  1. What is wrong with so many individuals that would go down this path and hurt and kill so many? What reason would this man have to do these horrible things to people?

    1. I hope they’re looking in to his connections and to rule out being a Chinese mole. That would make more sense than two guys randomly losing it in the same basic area.

    2. @Investigative Outcomes really? And which big shots bombed Afghanistan and Syria and Iraq and Japan? Really? Weapons of mass destruction? Why?

    3. We need to have mire respect to each other at workplaces also. People can feel desperate under heavy pressure from coworkers and now we have many other problems that invidual can experience in life.

    1. @XVI Knowledge is not necessarily power in all cases. Information you can’t do anything with is useless. You are filling your head full of pessimistic media instead of learning something useful.

  2. Sending love and the best energy I can to all the victims, their families, and everyone in the world. So sad. People of the world let’s stay strong

    1. Goddamn it as a California resident it feels like I’m surrounded by Charlie back in nam 68, swallowing wood alcohol with hookers and ladyboys whiskey

    2. @Daniel Whyatt you don’t understand that the right was put in place a long time ago and ain’t going no where. I’m done replying, get with it or be a sheep. Just don’t cry when the police ain’t rushing a mass shooter, it’s not like you haven’t been told a million times to match shooters power. 💤

    1. @Michelle  ah, so context matters when determining what is considered a “mass shooting”? I would confidently say that the majority of what FBI considers a “mass shooting” is gang related. Here in Chicago there’s mass shootings every month. Guess what, they’re felons and criminals who got guns illegally.

    2. thats exactly why they made the map bruh. to ride the news wave and create a narrative. so you keep watching and keep viewing ads.

    3. @:p In those countries, it’s politically or drug motivated. It’s not just random kill for the sake of killing – most of the time.

  3. but guns are illegal in California how could crime even happened there, there’s so many laws I thought crime isn’t allowed in California

  4. This is very concerning. The technology to commit this type of act has been here since the 1940s, yet we are seeing these incidents grow exponentially by the day. Traditionally, these mass shootings were done by white men, but now we are seeing these massacres crossing cultural boundaries. Something needs to change.

    1. USA:
      1950 = 54 million guns
      1970 = 104 million guns
Between 1985 and 1989 gun production increased by 42 percent.
The problem and solution couldn’t be any more obvious.

    2. @Mike B
How many mass shootings were there in the 1970s? Or between 85-89? The population has also really increased. So has substance abuse and mental illness. So what is your obvious solution?

    3. @Mike Bchecked today. There’s over 1 billion registered firearms in America alone, illegal and unregistered guns aren’t even accounted for. That’s an INSANE amount of firearms being held by people who are some of the emotionally stunted humans on the globe.

    4. @OK STblacks commit the most gang related shootings we don’t commit really no mass shootings so don’t even try to throw black people in the mix that’s y’all get down

  5. As long as you don’t go school, college, movie theatre, grocery store, shopping mall, Church, public park, amusement park, concert, parade , marathon run, airport, hospital and bar or night club you gunna be ok.
    Well done America 🇺🇸

    1. @Cowboy X Bullsht. Any idiot can Google where most gun violence happens in the USA and see its in red, Republican states with little to no gun laws. And any idiot can drive from CA to TX and buy whatever firearm they want. same reason most guns in Chicago come from Gary Indianan, a short drive away. Sounds like you’ve been fed a steady diet of bullshit.

    2. @Cowboy X bro what? 💀 Alabama is #1 in the entire country for firearm mortality, and the population is only 5 million.

    3. Oh my god, you’re right this is why American students don’t go to their school or college without mental health and society. 😬

    4. @Cowboy X Tell that to 19 kids in Texas who died while the “good guys with guns” cowered in the corner like bitches.

    5. Lol I’m from the Stateline of West Virginia and Virginia 🤣 red and blue, don’t make a fck where ya from or where ya go. There’s still violence in all states and sometimes it ain’t even gotta involve guns. my first comment is a personal experience and ain’t even against guns. Fck i have 2 myself actually…Some btch azz mfer decided to shoot up our house and run the fck off after shooting, dk the motives, dk who even done it. Minding our own damn business and was watching a movie. Can’t even be safe in your own fcking home bro. Didn’t have time to go see wtf it was. Didn’t even know someone was even there, was just simply chillin and heard “pop pop pop pop pop” like fcking fire crackers and a vehicle speed off and shred some rubber… go to go see wtf is goin on, saw broken glass, our cats were hissing n sht and we couldnt find our dog at first (she went into another room and hid. thought our cats broke somethin and scared theirselves and nope. Started cleaning up the mess and found bullet holes, 5 to be exact. It just doesnt make a fck where you live.👍

  6. The guy is old, an ex employee, and this appears he had targeted the victims. I’m just going to assume maybe he was treated unfairly which lead to this.

This guy looks like a pissed off worker. Not saying it’s an excuse to kill 7 people, but I’m curious about the motive since at 67 which is basically retirement age doesn’t make much sense to go on a mass shooting.

    1. Reread what you just said. It shouldn’t make sense to go on a mass shooting at ANY age! But look how you’re so desensitized to thousands of men in their teens and twenties doing it that it takes two men over 60 to make you try to make sense of it. That’s why the media is pushing these stories so hard and not the hundred other shootings that happened over the weekend. We could assume their motives all day long and at the end still not come up correct. When instead of looking for ways these are different, we should be looking at what connects them all together.

  7. Only reason I can think of based on what was mentioned in this video was that he was maybe laid off and wanted to take revenge on some employees, but if he was recently let go, would think the place he worked at would have released that info to the police and it would be mentioned in the video.

    1. Or probably he got jealous with his co employees staying for free in the farm while he had to pay all this bills at his own home. Property tax, mortgage 1st and 2nd loan, Home insurance, PG&E, water, internet, landline, cellphone, SUV car loan, car insurance, registration, smog test, ⛽ gas, etc… So again jealousy is the main culprit here….

    2. Why would the place he worked at say anything at all? They are already the bad guys for laying people off. No way in hell they are going to admit they are responsible for this man’s current mental state.

Also, major news organizations aren’t going to report it either. They are all corporations that just want to chew people up and spit then out when they get too old or broken to work anymore. They are probably happy to see someone in their late 60s get laid off. Means they won’t have to pay any kind of retirement or pension or anything for him.

    3. That was my same thought. It seems lately all we hear the ppl who does all these shooting are the ppl are laid off. Whatever happened to ‘take it as it is when you get laid off and find another job’. I guess it’s not the same anymore back in 80’s or the 90’s. I understand ever since Covid started things went down hill but shooting ppl ‘just bcz’ is not the answer to the problem we are facing. It causes more problems to the ppl, the community, the world and to the person who did the shootings. Kids who are doing the shootings are no different. My prayers goes out to the families and to the shooter. May he realize what he did. We are all not perfect but please stop the violence, that’s not the answer. Stop doing the ‘Way of Cain’. Let’s fight the Devil together for the safety of our community, the world and kids. Stay safe y’all and God bless.

  8. I like how she emphasized that they treated it like a normal arrest and he didn’t feel like he needed to take cover, but man already killed multiple people prior and was taken downlike a normal arrest. RIP to those he took the lives of.

    1. @Theresa Ahart

True, but black people receive the most hate crimes and always have in this country and abroad..

  9. I don’t understand why this world has so much violence. I just don’t and I truly don’t think I ever will. When will it end? When will we finally be able to stop seeing these abhorrent, horrific acts of evil? My hearts goes out to all the victims and their families and I’m praying for everybody who has been a victim of a mass shooting

    1. @Erik Laflamme Most gun violence in the country happens in red states with little gun control. So more guns obviously isn’t the solution.

    2. @Mike B I’m a democrat and even I know this is somewhat false, besides the majority of the crime happens in democratic cities inside of Republican states

    3. @angel sky the bible was written and collected for a time and culture that is gone, it has no relevance in today’s society

  10. So he did all that and in the end………. It’s not gonna give him his job back

So what was even the point?

Don’t understand why some people can only think in the moment and are ruled by their emotions and can’t think ahead

  11. I look at this guy and think of the old saying: “The lights are on but nobody’s home.” He definitely looks troubled.

  12. I remember reporters saying how unusual it was for an elderly person to be a shooter after the last one. No, here it is again within days. WTF!? So sorry for the losses 😢

    1. Replying to myself to speak to my replies: I don’t give a damn about the race. This entire nation is filled with people of all colors. Including mine. These were old men, coincidently Asian. I would just like to know what might have triggered them. And perhaps the one event led to a “copy-cat” killer imitating the first old guy. I don’t know. And neither do any of us yet. It’s an ongoing investigation.

    2. Elderly men can barely piss straight into toilet bowls but yet able to hold, aim, and fire semi automatics at moving targets.

  13. To those who read this comment and are contemplating bringing harm to others. PLEASE, I implore you to take a moment and know “there are” other ways to find solace. A few moments of rage will only leave an eternity of pain and destruction to those you put before your path. Allow others to stand by your side, not in front of you. We’ve seen this violence too many times and you know how it will end. It’s senseless to go down that road…don’t give up, you’re stronger than that and I believe in you!

    1. Or America could just take steps like other countries to control guns. But of course the 2nd amendment gods need their blood sacrifices.

  14. I attended elementary school during the Cold War, and I remember having bomb drills. The more things change, the more they stay the same! 😞

  15. This country is in an absolute crisis. From mass shootings to the zombie apocalypse in many of our cities due to homelessness and addiction. Im a parent of a 10 yo and fear we are beyond repair. I hope I’m wrong. Praying for the victims. 🙏

    1. Lawmakers have brought about this horrible situation by considering mass shooting casualties as acceptable tradeoffs for the huge profits of the guns and ammo industries.

  16. “Offence collecting” makes one are prone to such violence. Center yourself and count all your blessings instead, even the smallest ones.

Forgive other peoples offenses, sins and oversights; often, they know not what they do!

Focus on correcting your own faults & foibles; we’ve all got plenty to work on!

Heal your hurts, past and present; and help other to heal thiers! Smiles, kind words, hugs and brothery love save lives!

Ask forgiveness and/or make amends to those you’ve wronged or hurt; it will encourage others to do the same for others!

Love one another as the brothers, sisters and cousins that we are!

♥ Love is contagious, spread it around daily! ♥
