@Robert Moon for one I never said it couldn’t happened but its very very rare most 99% of cops are good people. In Jacob case he caused himself to get shot by his own actions. He was resisting arrest with a deadly weapon. He was fighting the cops, the cops did try non lethal weapon first. The cops tazed him but it did not work. What are the cops suppose to do just let him walk away when he had active warrants and he just fighting the cops with a weapon. The guy wasn’t geting into his car he was reaching into his car. In the video you can hear Jacob’s family yelling at him dont do it, dont do it, put it down they were begining him to comply but it fell on deaths ears. Jacob didnt even listen to his family so he not going to listen to the cops.
The cops were called out for domestic violence so the cops where there for a reason. The cops weren’t out looking for a black guy to shot.
Now its even came out that Jacob admitted to having the knife, the knife was found right where he was shot. @jweltsch22 I think the cops are still culpable. At least Chauvin, being the senior officer. You shouldn’t continue to kneel on a non-responsive subject. Put them into a recovery position. Although he was high and non compliant he was not violent and was knocked out. That in conjunction with EMS getting lost made the optics of this much worse than it actually is.
You could fire the other officers under the “conduct unbecoming of an officer” rules but they were rookies and they’d likely be the most vigilant officers on the force to prevent that situation from arising again. But that’s independent of public opinion.
The bottom line is that the safest place for Floyd was in the car and he refused to get in. But any mechanical asphyxiation taking place wasn’t doing him any favors. After watching the body cam and reading the autopsy (Hennepin) that’s my take. Should be an interesting court case.

@Junie C. Tennessee V Garner and the Kenosha PD Policy and Procedures Manual completely justify the shooting in the back. Jacob Blake made a furtive movement into the car, and considering his preceding fight with police and producing of a knife, or at the very least telling the cops he had a knife, the shooting was justified. Any assumption of goodwill was far gone. The reasonable assumption given his non compliance and resistance was ill intent. If he’s reaching inside the vehicle you cannot afford to wait to see what he does next.
The kid’s lives matter, the bystanders lives matter, and the cops lives matter.
You could also argue… if the police were aware of children being in the car that his escape with the children would put them in grave danger of death or serious bodily harm and the shooting would be doubly justified.
The number of shots do not matter in this case. Bullets are not magic. If the threat that required the 1st shot still exists, fire again. I can show you quite a few videos of people actively fighting after having 5, 6, 7+ shots in them. You shoot until you don’t need to anymore. And in the case of JB it was entirely in his hands.
As a country we should have very little sympathy towards a man willing to fight in front of his children and put them in harm’s way. He was an alleged rapist, due his day in court, but he was not free to evade arrest and drive off with his children, and he was not free to threaten the lives of the officers in their lawful duties. Stop defending him. Leave that to his lawyer. He wasn’t inhumanely treated because he was black. He was justifiably shot for being an idiot and he’s lucky he’s still alive.

By the way, I suggest reading into the Tennessee v. Garner case of 1985. It explains perfectly how the officer’s in Blake’s case were completely justified.

Given that Blake was trying to flee from the cops, and by reaching for the knife he posed an IMMEDIATE threat to not only the officers, but to the kids in the car, then there was justifiable cause for the officers to shoot him.
“During the incident, officers attempted to arrest Jacob S. Blake, age 29. Law enforcement deployed a taser to attempt to stop Mr. Blake, however the taser was not successful in stopping Mr. Blake. Mr. Blake walked around his vehicle, opened the driver’s side door, and leaned forward.”
“During the investigation following the initial incident, Mr. Blake admitted that he had a knife in his possession. DCI agents recovered a knife from the driver’s side floorboard of Mr. Blake’s vehicle. A search of the vehicle located no additional weapons”

I didn’t see any knife in the video, but it was filmed with a potato. He was walking away from police. Police catch up GRAB HIM so I don’t think fear of being stabbed was really a reason for shooting the guy 7 times. I don’t know about you, but If I’m afraid of someone with a knife I’m not going to go closer to them. They claim they found a knife in his car after I believe. I’d hate if police shot me and then used a knife in the car as the excuse afterwards.
