Watch: Republicans Demand More Impeachment Witnesses, When Clinton Was On Trial | MSNBC

As the House marches towards a floor vote to impeach Pres. Trump, MSNBC’s Ari Melber previews the Trump Senate trial negotiations by reporting new legal and historical context. This segment shows how Republican Henry Hyde, the House Judiciary Committee chairman leading the 1999 Clinton impeachment, explicitly backed new witnesses for the senate trial of Clinton. Hyde told NBC “this is a trial, not a grand jury proceeding… and we have a tremendous burden” of proof. Melber reports on how the Senate is now wrangling over whether to include any witnesses in a Trump trial, and notes that Sen. Schumer’s opening compromise offer of only four witnesses – without even requesting Rudy Giuliani and Attorney General Bill Barr – was already rebuffed by Senate Republicans. Aired on 12/17/19.

    1. Exactly, so what does that tell you. And I’m sick of hearing about comparisons to Clinton. All witnesses were heard from, and here we have obstruction of a coequal branch of government invoking made up executive privileges

    2. @barry Powell YOU KNOW LIKE EVERY ONE ELSE THAT ” THEY DID A LOT OF WRONG” so do not pretend in this arena to play innocent, because if you defend Trump’s positions you will be judged as he is, by History and by the people.

    3. @barry Powell “Republicans are at war with the evil cabal”
Yeah you are. I am watching you destroy yourselves more and more every day. Looks like your winning and just as Kindsey Graham said when he still had McCain’s spine, “Trump will destroy the GOP”.

    4. You and I know they are compulsive liers, back to back, I’m glad I’m not near this kind of inhuman trash with stolen money war mongers!!!

  1. Just imagine if this were a Democratic president who extorted Ukraine to win an election. Republicans could cancel their viagra prescriptions, that’s for sure! 😆😅

    1. A Democratic President would be long gone if the situations were reversed. Republicans are for more ruthless than Democrats and would have found a way. They also would not have to battle the Fox News effect, which is probably Trump’s biggest asset.

    1. Fake President & The Moscow Assets wtf have the UK and the EU to do with Trump? No one here wanted him to be president, not even our heads of state.

    2. @Gary Davidson You people are a joke……. When did he ask oh yeah when he was walking Hillary for her illegal server and the 33,000 e mails at a rally ……lol

  2. I might as well ask the government who ordered the tomahawk missile strike in the pentagon on 9/11 attack and somehow lost a trillion dollar budget after specific person was killed…Republicans are just gonna blame harambes email….okay🤣

    1. MITCH McConnell Hates the American People and has a Negative (-) 24 job approval points. Check realclearpolitics website… The most Unpopular Person in All of congress

  3. Trump and republicans know that there’s no witness that can exonerate Trump. Not even Trump’s closest aides, staff, and cabinet members would be able to save Trump. As Sondland stated during the Congressional hearings “everyone was in the loop.”

Trump’s own National Security Adviser, John Bolton quit over Trump’s scheme to bribe Ukraine.

    JULY 10
At the Trump International Hotel in Washington, Andriy Yermak, a top adviser to Mr. Zelensky, asks Mr. Volker to connect him to Giuliani. The two men later meet in Madrid.

At a White House meeting later that day in Bolton’s office, two Ukrainian officials press for an Oval Office meeting between Trump and Mr. Zelensky. Sondland blurts out that Mick Mulvaney, the acting White House chief of staff, promised that Mr. Zelensky would be invited if Ukraine announces “investigations.”

Bolton immediately halts the meeting. At a follow-up meeting, Sondland again presses the Ukrainians to announce investigations, this time specifying Burisma and the 2016 election as targets. Fiona Hill, one of Bolton’s top deputies, calls that session to a halt.

She and Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman, her subordinate, report the meetings to John Eisenberg, the chief legal adviser to the National Security Council. Bolton tells Ms. Hill to deliver a message from him: “I am not part of whatever drug deal Sondland and Mulvaney are cooking up.”

The fact that Trump and republicans refuse to allow Bolton or Eisenberg to testify is an admission of Trump’s guilt. Because if their testimony could clear Trump of any wrong doing, they wouldn’t hesitate to let them testify.

    1. There have been thought experiments where they took policies that Republicans had written into Bills, and the same from Democrats. They took voters from both parties and let them just review the policies, without knowing which Party was involved. 87% of respondents sided with policies that Democrats have put forth when they didn’t know which party they originated from.

It’s scary to know most Republicans only vote Republican because of the (R) after someone’s name.

  4. republicans: WE DEMAND MORE WITNESSES!!! THIS IS SO BIAS!!!
republicans: WE REFUSE TO CALL ON ANY WITNESSES BECAUSE OF REASONS!!

  5. This is totally different than what happened back then; and this can NOT be allowed to become the new norm in the USA, period!
