@Gabriel Adebisi the states get the final call, sure, but masks are something that should never have even become a political hot topic. Using masks to avoid sickness is pretty fundamental. If the president had actually endorsed mask wearing (and done so by example), then his political supporters would VERY LIKELY have followed suit… because putting on a mask is not directly disruptive to the economy, nor is it inherently a political issue.
States would still have varying degrees of lockdown disruption (because of the various politics and economies involved), but consistent mask requirements would have helped the situation a lot. It would have saved lives and allowed for less lockdown restrictions, which would in turn help the economy.
There was literally NOTHING to lose from supporting mask use except a bit of ego bruising for him in admitting that they were a good idea.
@Spooky Carrie McConnell and the republican party are just as responsible as trump.
..and of course…he who didn’t pay taxes got preferential medical treatment right away

@Elaine Goad YEAH, and he is very vocal about how happy he is to vote with the Republicans and against protections that are provided by the EPA. Sadly he has 4 more years to continue and will likely stay on Senate Appropriations where he is against clean sustainable energy. Let me put it this way: if the Senate had a vote to impeach McConnel’s wife for her actions as Commerce Secretary to enrich her chinese family I doubt if McConnel would abstain and Manchin would vote with the Republicans.
