'We Have To Take This Seriously': National Debate Over Reparations | Morning Joe | MSNBC

  1. If this is a case where is the reparation for the Native American? If anyone deserves reparation it is the Native American!

    1. @mic Smith nope. Not saying all natives had slaves or participated in slavery. Just as all african countries did not trade slaves.

    2. @Kj “yes they did die and fight for their freedom” “just for tribes to turn around and enslave black people too😁”

    1. Because its long overdo. If you know the history of racism against African Americans reparations are the first step to setting things right.

    2. @Princess of Laughter Pinkie Pie you’re so dumb, probably some pampered suburban brat, minorities aren’t helpless props that can’t fend for ourselves u condescending ahole

    1. @Sarah Shah Kewpie Doll quoted an old Beatles song. I am an old musician well versed in song lyrics, so I answered with more Beatles lyrics, as I did with you. My bad if it did not make as much sense as I hoped . . . . I agree with your comment about the 1% elite. The response I posted to you was a quote from “Taxman” by the Beatles. Namaste.

    2. @Sarah Shah No worries. Sorry for any confusion. It is very old music. My replies were meant as a silly joke of sorts. I understand that people from all over the world read these pages, and often cultural references are lost especially to folks whose first language is not English. I am an old musician as I said, born in the USA and a refugee from California of the sixties . . .

    1. 1manuscriptman, I was thinking 50 trillion billion million billion trillion illion in Joe Biden dollars.

    2. @1manuscriptman You say you were a teacher yet your comment tells me otherwise. Even Grade school kids know the African American community was always held back due to racial discrimination laws, unfair business practices that discriminated against them. Violence, and lack of fair treatment under the law. If you really were a teacher you would know this. This is 5th grade stuff I’m talking about.

  2. Just so we know what we are dealing with here, ADOS, who is the main pusher of this thing, is demanding 14 TRILLION DOLLARS in cash payments.

    1. @Joe Obiden so okzy, natiive americans who dont make a peep by the way, are there any trillions out there for US? Or is that the idea for Casinos. And with so many demands who’s being responsible for moving themselves forward? Dont use jews that way. You werent responsible for them?..Was I responsible for you? That was not a fair statement. How many slaves got gassed? What is the bottem line and how soon will it be decided? This open wound in Out Lady Liberties American fabric has an ending solutiion and its not Rocket Science starting with the current administration who has fanned the flames instead of doing the right thing. Which he knows ZERO about.

  3. All true. And let’s not forget the genocide inflicted on native Americans by “white” Europeans.

    1. @Renita Austin Ok. We’ll pay you what we paid the Indians and give you a reservation. I think it would come out to a few hundred dollars each. I’m down with that.

    2. mic Smith, they’re not even the first here. Aliens arrived almost 2,000 years before the natives. The natives stole the alien technology and used it to defeat them and conquer the now American territories. That’s how the Mayans knew so much about astronomy.

  4. If you’re talking about reparations that includes land health education and yes cash payments to only American descendants of slaves.

    1. @Unapologetic 662 Okay, so someone who is not a descendant of a former slaveowner, and has never invested in the stock market or voted is exempt from paying this reparation tax. Got it.

    2. @Unapologetic 662 govt is funded by the taxpayers…the vast vast majority of whom did not have ancestors involved in the slave trade. Ill be damned if ANY of my tax dollars go to ‘reparations.’

    3. HOstiLe TEntacLE MoNster you still benefit off of it you don’t even know what your tax dollars go to now.

    4. @HOstiLe TEntacLE MoNster Got that right. My family didn’t own slaves. I don’t own any slaves and I won’t pay for it either.

  5. Problem is 5hat the slavers and even the segregationists are dead. I am white and have abolitionist ancestors and also many ancestors who weren’t in the country 5hen. This is an unsortable mess

    1. Systematic Racism did no go away after the civil war it persisted to this day and African Americans have bared the blunt of it.

    1. Naw, Ta-Nehisi Coates is controlled opposition backed by white power. The fact that you don’t see the propaganda arm of white supremacy, the lamestream white media attacking him constantly let’s you know he’s comprised. He showed his true colors when he didn’t check that marble brained anti-Black racist, Alexandria Ocasio Cortez for her idiotic statements about Reparations when he had her sitting right in front of him. When they had that do nothing hearing on Reparations with Danny Glover, Coates didn’t speak forcefully on behalf of Reparations. The New Black Media is carrying that mantle and the message is uncompromising. #CutThe☑

  6. Take it seriously and then ask what you will do with twice as many equally poor people who do not qualify.

    1. larryconcepts – I think community investment not only makes sense- it make communities function. What a novel concept though! The people’s money spent on the citizens!

  7. Everything Nikole says was taken directly from Yvette Carnell and Antonio Moore of Breaking Brown and Tone Talks. They should’ve won the pulitzer.

    1. < Especially when the only people who are responsible for it and thus would pay it are long dead. And 'building America?' lol not quite. Here, a word of advice as a form of repayment: At least graduate high school, dont have babies out of wedlock, get a job and keep it, dont commit crimes. You do those things, you wont have to whine about more pity handouts from the govt b/c your 'skin color' somehow justifies the false premise that you cant be expected to behave and achieve according to societal norms.

    2. If we are to judge who or what “built” America, we must honestly look at the legacy and the strength of each. The reality is that the slave-holding South lost the Civil War. Why? Why, if slavery built America, was it not able to provide the strength needed to the South to be able to crush the North? And what did the North have that made it so great without the aid of slavery?
That final statistic combined with the North’s victory in the Civil War should be sufficient to dispel the idea that America was built on slavery. Keep in mind, too, that not all of the wealth in the South was generated by slaves. Free men in the South also worked their own fields and industries.

The truth is, America was primarily built on the industry of free people. Slavery was a terrible thing that went against the founding ideals of the country. Nonetheless, we do not need to create false narratives to know it was wrong and to have sympathy for both those who lived through it and for those who carried the scars forward.

Indeed, it does damage to one’s cause to push a false narrative that cannot stand up under scrutiny and calls in to question any other statements one makes as well as the agenda for making them.

    1. Probably the full payment . In australia you only need not even quarter percent like your white and you can claim full payments for being aborigines, i know lots of them
