They are most likely the same people who choose to forego participation in the mitigation of the virus. I don’t think that the elderly Asian Americans are the wimps here. When you chose to take the racial angle and call the virus the China Virus you may cause the death of one of your fellow Asian Americans, or two, or three or four…use the rational portion of your mind and Grow up. The scientific name for the virus is the Corona Virus and the illness it causes is called Covid 19. Get it straight and you may save the life a fellow American. Be an American and treat your fellow American like you would like to be treated. Oh wait, that would require you to activate Christian principles and beliefs….and wasn’t the USA founded on Christian principles and beliefs?….what a concept.     3. @Stephens Odyssey I stand behind my comment 1000%. As POTUS Trump had a lot of power to influence the actions of many people. Those with weak conviction and irrational thinking couldn’t see through Trump’s real intention and that was to win an election. With Trump’s promotion of blaming Asians for the virus he knew that he put Asian Americans at great risk of violence. And of course he would know, he is a self proclaimed “stable genius”, and one that didn’t care about the outcome. The very predictable outcome manifested itself in the violence and murder of our fellow helpless elderly Asian Americans. Anyone who thinks this promotion of hatred, violence and murder was worth the effort to try to win an election has totally lost his/her way. He LOST, and rightfully so, simply because he chose a sinful, self-righteous and selfish path….YES, Trump promoted this. Thank God Almighty that we have adults in the White House now. The only ones lying are those lying to themselves, those who don’t treat fellow Americans, and other human beings, in the same why they would like to be treated. It would be advantageous to activate your Christian principles and beliefs, the very ones most Americans claim this country was founded on. Wouldn’t that be a shocking concept….

    1. @King Charles That may be in the last few attacks in the last week or so, but remember when everyone was bitching about Pelosi hugging people in SF Chinatown? Yes, her gesture was epistemologically stupid, but do you remember why she was doing that? To refresh your memory, people in that area were getting harassed even then.

      And because of my cousins maybe it’s something I’m more sensitive to, but I grew up in a neighborhood that was about 2/3 every kind of Asian you can think of, and when I was about 19 I changed directions on my route to the mall and caught up with a small old Filipino man who had this weird gangly white dude buzzing around him like a hornet expressing irritation at his Filipinoness. I pretended I knew him and escorted him home.

      This is not say ( living where I do) I haven’t seen black and Latino folks hassling Asian people. It’s just that, because I’m white, other white folk feel more comfortable revealing their assholery in front of me. But here’s the thing: if you set up a racially based caste system ( as the legal system of early America did), then people across the caste lines will buy into it in an effort to make life easier. So in the same way a white racist might soothe their insecurities by telling themselves “ At least I’m white”, those African American Bayview girls in San Francisco attempted to make themselves feel more important by telling themselves “ At least I’m not Asian.”

      ( and by the way, Bayview girls— shame on you. I know you’re not from the Sunnydale projects, because I’ve worked there and I know those folk would cheerfully step up to you en masse suggesting you pick your own switches.)

Then they lied saying it would not leave their borders despite a delay in quarantine. How is Trumps response any worse?

  9. People died all over China when the outbreak happened. No one was happy with the pandemic in China. We should come together as a human race because the blame game will do us in if climate change doesn’t. Every life is precious. It’s sad that these people are attacking the elderly.

    Once again, nationalism, aka fascism, has risen its ugly head in America, in European nations, and in some other countries around the world. The fight of good people against ignorance, the fears that sprout from it, the hate which then blossoms, culminating in the bitter toxic fruit of evil, senseless brutalities and deaths, is a constant, never-ending battle we fear, but it is a battle from which we must never shrink.

    In this era, the likes of Toxic Trump and Marginalized Greene have become the face of the new “America First” fascist movement built up over the last four decades by the GOP, Reich-wing plutocrats, demagogues, and media. But, as with Lindbergh, the American people gradually come to recognize their dysfunctional poison and reject it. Most Americans understand, accept, and appreciate that the enduring strength of America is that we are a nation of immigrants and multiculturalism, a “melting pot” where the best ideas rise to the top, and superficial differences are meaningless in the face of our common humanity and purpose. Most Americans want competent leaders who speak truth, who strive to unite, who are not corrupt, who care about them. So, it should come as no surprise that President Biden is already receiving high marks from the public, while Toxic Trump never managed to rise above even a 50% approval rating.
