But I also think that, like in other countries, if you are out of work an option should be to go back to school eg college, trade school etc.
@Human Resources : First, get off the bigot crap. Second, I agree, there is plenty of grants, financial assistant programs, and apprentistship programs out there to learn a skill. That’s exactly what my nephew did. He went to work with a plumbing company as an apprentice at not much more than minimum wage. Now he is a licensed plumber making considerably more.

@David Cohen You know, if you consider uneducated, non-English speaking, or reading, illegal immigrants to be legitimate competition for your job, then that says far more about your place of employment than it does about American policy. I mean, what jobs are you afraid of them taking? What job are you doing that doesn’t require you to speak or read English, or even have the equivalent of high school education?
If you live in legitimate fear of losing your job to illegal immigrants who speak zero English and don’t have the equivalent of high school education, you should probably be setting your sights a little bit higher in life, because you’re capable of more than what you’re currently doing. If an illegal immigrant could do your job for $5 an hour, then a trained ape could probably do it for literal peanuts, if it didn’t get outright automated, something that no amount of immigration policy could prevent.
Simply put, if you’re afraid of losing your job to an illegal immigrant, then either you never deserved that job in the first place, or that employer didn’t deserve to have you.
