    1. Agree, Yet Russians Energy should be Annexed Since the Invader’s are not Willing to Supply it to needed Countries …

  1. Really good piece Fareed. Thanks for going into a very dangerous warzone to bring your thoughtful reflections to people like me. well done my man

  2. Don’t underestimate the power of a democracy under threat of autocracy. Good point. Let’s VOTE to make sure it’s actually true!

    1. @AGF fans Clearly all the Russians I met back in 1991 had left Russia, and yes that’s 30+ years ago, but I was deeply impressed by their stories of their life experiences back in Russia, the chess/math/science competitions that built them up to the impressive level which most Americans can’t compete with. All I’m saying is don’t underestimate, and also recognize our own weakness, which after all elected Trump and continues to attack our educators.

    2. @Veand Whitcher I am a strong Democrat and Biden supporter who thanks you for that omission. We are both Americans but with different views, but we agree that Ukraine must be free.

    3. @Roger Pennel is it not true for US army as well? .. disproportionate number of Blacks and Hispanics from inner cities and Poor whites from hinterland

  3. Ukrainians are showing the world that good ,decent, brave people are giving their lives for their children .My God,what an inspiration in these hellish times.

    1. @Griffin S Certainly. The ways the West started it:

      1. Changing the international rules mid-stream by violating Yugoslavia’s sovereignty and taking Kosovo. This set the precedent for Russia’s actions.

      2. Expanding NATO into Eastern Europe despite giving assurances that they would not do this. The evidence is clear.

      3. Meddling in Ukraine directly by organizing protests to redo the election (2004) or backing protests that toppled democracy (2014). The latter was replaced with an unelected panel that contained extremists, including Oleh Tyahnybok.

      4. Refusing to pressure Ukraine to uphold international agreements that it signed, including Minsk II that would have ended the conflict way in 2015 with Ukraine receiving ALL of the Donbas.

Every one of these points was a huge flaw that led us to this moment. The saddest part is we were warned by academics such as Dr. John Mearsheimer. But even worse, we are duplicating this strategy in Taiwan, knowing that this could lead to the downfall of millions.

  4. Thank you for your reporting on Ukrainian people , they need all the support we can give from the western world , gods speed for peace in Ukraine 🇺🇦

  5. In the EU no person will freeze. The EU used to import 40% of its gas from Russia; now it’s down to 9%. And the EU has managed to replace all the gas, that Russia exports less to the EU, by gas provided by trustworthy partners like the USA, Norway, Algeria and others. Allright, this winter will be difficult and expensive for any EU-citizen, but those hurdles don’t mean very much. Certainly not if you compare them to Ukraine, where people loose their life on a daily base.

    1. Do also know Nigeria is the PowerPoint of in UK an EU everyone is important because you forget about Nigeria a powerful country like that of it’s kid

  6. The war in Ukraine is the decisión of one evil person. Ukraine’s response is the decision of millions of people who know and desire freedom. I stand with Ukraine.

    1. @Mycroft Montague you sound like 5yr old because we all know why Iraq was destroyed not even because of Kuwait,IRAQ,SYRIA,LIBYA look at those countries now

    2. @Çelin Łyin Thanks for the compliment. And you think the people their should have had taken responsibility for the democratic development of their countries? Or do you support Saddam Hussein, Khaddfi etc.

  7. This is an amazing story, Fareed. Russian troops have done everything they could to drive these people down. The Resilience of the Ukraine People can be a lesson to us all.

    1. it does feel like the Russian war effort is phoning it in at this point. again…who knows what will happen but one thing is for sure, the Russian military has suffered a massive setback to its image

  8. I live in Finland and will pay through the nose for energy for the foreseeable future because of Putin, but I don’t care. Of course I’m not happy about it, nobody is, but compared to what the Ukrainians have been through it’s nothing. To cave in to Putin and his insane and barbaric world view is not an option to any rational and decent person. I stand with Ukraine all the way.

    1. We will be fine . So many people with the right morals have been reminded of what we have achieved and what we will do to protect it.

  9. As an American an outside of our nation I commend Poland for being the greatest support for the Ukraine. Rock on Poland you’re showing Europe how to truly protect europe.

  10. I love to hear Fareed’s version of the story. He is always clear n reliable. Thanks Fareed we need more of ur calibre on the airwaves.

  11. This guy is an incredible, strategic, analyst and explainer. His deep understanding and ability to translate context and public mood are as striking as the ease with which he gets across these abstract concepts.
