Zelenskyy: Russian soldiers are ‘confused children,’ vows resistance | USA TODAY

In a video address to the nation early Thursday, Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called on Ukrainians to keep up their resistance.

His comments come as Russia acknowledged for the first time since the start of the invasion that nearly 500 Russian troops have been killed in the fighting and around 1,600 wounded. Ukraine has not released a similar casualty figure for its armed forces.

Ukraine’s State Emergency Service has said more than 2,000 civilians have died, though it was impossible to verify the claim. The U.N. human rights office said it had recorded the deaths of 136 civilians, including 13 children, in Ukraine since the start of the invasion on Feb. 24.

  3. For the first time, American independent experts have calculated the total number of civilian casualties during the military conflict in Iraq involving US and NATO troops. Over the past eight years, more than 162,000 Iraqi civilians have been killed in the fighting.

According to the website Iraq Body Count, which systematically counts the victims of the war in Iraq, 4,63 civilians were killed in 2011 alone. Moreover, these reports are compiled on the basis of repeatedly verified data. So, when identifying this figure, 6 thousand 828 messages from 90 different sources were used. The total number of civilian victims of the war waged since 2003 has reached 162 thousand 333 people.

Since 2008, the level of annual losses has decreased slightly, but in 2011 it rose again from 4,45 thousand to 4,63 thousand people. At the same time, the number of those who die during militant attacks on supporters of the government and occupation authorities has increased significantly. If in 2010 888 civilians were killed in such attacks, then last year – already 1,172 people.
