Now, I am definitely not a fan of American republicans but a real republican like Steve Schmidt definitely has my respect for the simple reason that he knows right from wrong and he understands better than most the type of damage Trump is doing to not only America but also to the republican party.
Maybe you should try to consider the following.
Trump invited the other G7 members to come to Camp David. Germany declined followed by the rest of the members. Do you really think that it would not have been possible for them to come to Camp David?
They respectfully declined using Covid-19 as an excuse, but it is very clear that this was not the main reason. The main reason is that none of the other six G7 members want to be in the same room as Donald Trump. Take a minute to try to understand the implications of that and then think about the childish reply from your president, which was to announce that he would pull half of all American troops home from Germany, thus putting another nail in the coffin of 75 years of building alliances with Europe.
A little thought experiment here. What would happen if European countries suddenly decided to spend 10% of their GDP on military buildup? Would USA like a militarized Europe again? If that happened, USA would lose all foothold in Europe.
Well, the Democrats sure have taken their time.
