Parliament approves Income Tax (Amendment) Act 2008
Roseau, Dominica – October 20, 2008…… The Tax Reform programme of the Government of Dominica has entered the second phase with the passage in Parliament last week of the Income Tax (Amendment) Act 2008.
In the 2007/2008 Budget Address, Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit announced the first phase of a comprehensive income tax adjustment programme, to be implemented over a three year period. As a result of that adjustment an additional 1,036 persons in Dominica stopped paying income tax.

Government approves initial amount of $3 million for fisheries sub-sector including an amount of $250 per week for one month for fisherfolk
Based on information provided by the Minister with responsibility for Fisheries, Hon. Matthew Walter, one hundred and fifty-three (153) boats have been severely damaged or lost and fisherfolk suffered damage to their engines, outboard motors, boat houses, fish aggregating devices(FADS) and other equipment. Five hundred (500) fisherfolk were affected.

Roseau, Dominica – October 17, 2008……. The Government of Dominica in collaboration with the European Union, The Regional Council of Guadeloupe, the Agence Francaise de Developpement and other French development partners is forging head with plans to exploit the country’s geothermal resource. This information came to light at the first Project Steering Committee Meeting for the Geothermal project held recently.
The Meeting was attended by Minister for Energy, Hon. Charles Savarin, Permanent Secretary, Mr. Vincent Philbert, Senior Project Officer in the Ministry of Public Utilities, Mr. Michael Fadelle, National Authorizing Officer of the European Development Fund, Mr. Edward Lambert, Mr. Paul Mondesir from the Office of the European Commission in Barbados and officials from DOMLEC, the Independent Regulatory Commission and the Private Sector.
