Velshi: Violent protests vs. Protests With Violence | MSNBC

There is a distinction between violent protests; and protests with violence. Critics will wonder, why is there widespread revulsion at the violence at the Capitol, when my colleagues and I have spent months saying violence can be a necessary part of protest? For starters, the Capitol is not a liquor store. Violence must always be understood in context. Violence that means to spread democracy, end injustice and encourage fairness in the application of the rule of law has nothing in common with the wanton, anti-democratic riots of January 6th, fueled by Donald Trump and Qanon conspiracy theories of an election that was stolen.» Subscribe to MSNBC:

Velshi: Violent protests vs. Protests With Violence | MSNBC

    1. So Protests with Violance are worse the. Because they have killed at least 19 people and violent protests haven’t killed anyone?

  1. There is no doubt that fox news an other spread hatred and only to one type of people those who unable to think with reason

    1. @Gary Campbell The amicus brief was filed on December 21, 2020. And forgive me, I erred, it is 176 female athletes who signed on, not 174.

    2. @Gary Campbell Because they realize it isn’t unfair. You know, two years of Horomone Therapy wiping away the advantage and all that.

Of course, given your hate of science, the fact you don’t get this isn’t surprising.

    3. @Randy Couch you know your worn out tag line “fake news” is pretty long in the tooth. We reality based peeps have eyes, ears, verified videos, court decisions, hearings and so on that very clearly corroborate the reporting by Velshi and the majority of what mncbc and cnn, npr, pbs, cspan “main stream media” have been reporting. When they are confronted with VERIFIED contrary facts, I have seen them retract and correct the reporting.
This CANNOT be said about Fox, L.Ingram, T Carlson, S Hannity, A Jones, Q, R Limbaugh, T Cruz, L Graham, D Trump, and the rest of your fear mongering and habitually lying hero’s. Instead they pull everything out of context and out their cocobutts to keep fools like you glued to their shows smashing beer cans on your forehead until you bleed on your Cheerios. Enjoy yourself over there in fantasy land, We the People and the United States will move on without you quite happily.

    4. @Gary Campbell you guys gotta stop watching lies! They lie to you because they have no respect for you.
No matter how many times it is proven not true you will still dismiss it with another lie. None of you even care that you’re being lied to because it’s fuel for what you hate! I don’t necessarily agree with transgenders in womens sports. I think they should have a league for that and it doesn’t go as far as a disagreement. I don’t hate them for what they are doing because biological women in time will adapt. We are the best on the planet at doing that.

  2. Thank you I have been needing these very words because I have had to answer these very questions. Saying it is different is not enough for many on the trump side.

    1. @Lady A 9% of the money actually going to direct Covid Relief. 91% to Democrat Play Pals. Disgusting!

    2. @David CohenI truly do not care about anything you’re “attempting” to express🤷🏾‍♀️…all your comments read like pre-recorded messages from deep within the abyss you and many others have slipped into🤦🏾‍♀️…go to Faux Entertainment and talk gibberish with your maga siblings because you’re wasting your time here. Go be happy, Good Day.✌🏾😎

    3. Riot definiton: a noisy, violent public disorder caused by a group or crowd of persons, as by a crowd protesting against another group, a government policy, etc., in the streets.

    1. @Randy Couch umm yes he is. You should look into that easy answer before making yourself look stupid.

    2. @Raivan Frampton Too late for that, he makes himself look stupid constantly commenting on CNN videos 🙂

  3. The bottom line is, everything conservatives hate about liberals, conservatives do also, but much, much worse. They’re always trying to justify their horrible behavior by pointing to the left. If you’re doing the right thing, you don’t need to justify yourself.

    1. @wily wascal
ANTIFA/BLM MEMBER wearing MAGA gear CNN & NBC each paid $35,000, when the “police officers” started letting them in the Capitol Trump was still in the rally even AOC said they breached athe Capitol around 12:40pm at that tome Trump was still at the rally..
      Why was Pelosi removed @12:18?
When supposedly the invasion happened around “1pm”

    2. @FLASHBACKS INTO ~ You’re pretty good at conflating things, twisting things, spewing misinformation, disseminating propaganda, and advancing crackpot conspiracy theories, Doc! One might almost think you’re just another one of Putin’s sock-puppet pawns, with your relatively new YouTube account. If not, you’re sure doing your best to help America’s enemies. #moreRussiasanctions

    3. Yeah, the problem liberals have in America is they have to be absolutely perfect in order to criticize *ANYTHING* the right does, otherwise we’re stuck in a _perpetual_ whataboutism loop

And I do mean perpetual. We can have all choir angels in the Democratic Party, the Republicans will “But what about Bill Clinton?” you death still

There’s no building bridges with people committed to misunderstanding something

    4. @Eduardo ~ Even when Democrats do nothing wrong, Republicans just fabricate or distort something about which they can then pretend to be outraged.

Elmer Fudd’s always trying to convince me he just wants unity.
What he really means is that he wants to eat me.
Unity and compromise is a two-way street that only works if both parties operate in good faith. Republicans have a long history of failing to do that–or even try. Recent history since Biden won the election shows no indication of them changing their divisive, destructive words, attitudes, obstruction and other acts. Tyrant Trump incited a terrorist insurrection against the nation’s Capitol to overthrow an election, endangering his VP and members of Congress, sat by and gleefully reveled in watching it happen for hours, ignoring desperate pleas for help, and only a very few Republican were willing to speak out, impeach him, convict him, and prevent him from holding public office again? That’s not loyal opposition; that’s a dangerous terrorist political cult of fascists.

  4. There’s also a big difference between spontaneous violence and one that has been prepared, stochastically inflamed for months, rhetorically laid for 4 years.

    1. Add to that, trumps** invitation issued on Dec. 16th to “come to the Capitol, it’ll be wild.”

    2. Considerable amounts of bootleg alcohol and cocaine were consumed beforehand, leading to thrown bottles, physical assaults, firearm exchanges and razor attacks.

    3. @Just Sayin’ Exactly. He only pulled the attackers back when he saw the attack failed to decapitate the other 2 branches of government.

    4. Then you’re incredibly naive, Billithekat, or simply disingenuous. BLM is a Marxist organisation with a political agenda.

  5. Theres a big difference between people being angry that black people get shot in the back while running away or choked to death by police than some Wanker who lost an election

    1. @TheDiamond2009 The legislation is intended to curb excessive force by police. Who better than a victim of police brutality should the eponym go to?

    2. It doesn’t need to go to anybody, Constituent, you could just do what almost all civilised countries do, and simply name the legislation in line with its intent. Naming it after a criminal demonstrates to me that the new administration are going to roll over to Marxist organisations like BLM.

    3. @TheDiamond2009 Weird. I don’t know how it’s done in “other civilised countries”, but in this one, the executive branch doesn’t name bills. That’s done in the legislative branch where the bill originated, which had nothing at all to do with the “new administration”. You did indeed suggest that the bill be named for a child victim of gang crossfire, even though that makes no sense as the legislation has nothing to do with gang violence. There are currently two BLM organizations, who appear to be in a trademark battle over the name, but neither is a Marxist organization.

    4. So you believe that no influence was exerted by anybody who is left of centre to name this legislation after a criminal?

You may be right, it’s not accurate to name it after an innocent child who killed as a result of street violence, although it seems to be just as appropriate as naming it after a criminal. If you’re happy for his name to be on it, for your children to see, rather than perhaps somebody who was genuinely innocent, then so be it. But it wouldn’t be on my watch, out of principle.

As for BLM, let’s not fool anybody, please. I’ve seen the leaders on a clip that I saw last year, stating that they were, in their own word “trained Marxists”. I viewed their website last year too, out of curiosity, and it references their stated aims, which included defunding the police and breaking up the nuclear family.

It’s not helpful to anybody to hold these people in esteem, they should be called out for what they are, using their own words, nonetheless.

If you don’t believe that BLM has a political agenda, then I’d say you’re naive. It’s almost wholly political. If they genuinely cared about black lives, they’d be helping the mass of innocent victims in their own neighbourhoods, as opposed to a handful of criminals.

    5. @TheDiamond2009 Stop accusing unless you do your “own” homework. I doubt you read it you just heard it and embellished it. I heard the story about the pregnant woman and did the homework and learned the truth. Something you should do if you want the truth. Oh and do your homework on the other accusations too you could learn something. Oh and by the way the accusations you made do not make it okay to murder someone/anyone.

  6. In this increasingly fragmented and destabilizing nation, fighting reality is dangerous. Fighting to help build solidarity is required for collective liberation and transformation. We must focus on what unites us instead of what divides us. Let us keep going sane together. Thank you, Ali for your insights.

  7. There should be a permanent link to this video for any time a Trumpologist references urban riots associated with BLM protests in response to a discussion of the Zombie MAGApocalypse.

    1. @Eric Graham So when did BLM try to overthrow the federal government and install a President? They didn’t. The riots didn’t happen as a direct BLM strategy, they were committed by angry people and/or opportunists. The Zombie MAGApocalypse was planned to be violent from the start months in advance with the goal of usurping the Presidency for Trump. Deflect all you like, the truth is plain.

  8. A president can act like an entertainer to inspire, cheer or calm the people.
For the last 4 years you had an entertainer acting like a president and he did the opposite.

    1. He was a narcissistic self~seeker, not truly for the vast majority of the American people.

    2. He wasn’t an entertainer, and he rarely acted like a president, he did manage to do the opposite of inspire, cheer and calm though.

    3. @Larry Kane Borris Johnson is a buffoon (less of one since taking over as PM), T***p is just an outright lunatic

  9. Love Ali Velshi. Always glad to see him as the ubiquitous substitute. Can’t believe how much he works!

  10. The explanation is simple. If you want to be just in times of injustice you become a tool for injustice. There was no time for being just in the Trump time of extreme injustice. Pick a side when fascism strikes. Pick a side.

  11. He didn’t reveal how when the police moved in while he was covering one of the protests an officer aimed and shot him with a pepper ball or rubber bullet in the leg.

  12. velshi is a true boss. i remember when he covered those protests and he showed what a true reporter does to cover the whole story.

    1. Lol the dude isn’t a boss… he’s a liar who has zero integrity and is far more focused on driving a specific narrative forward instead of providing actual journalism. He didn’t report/cover the story, he tried to present the story in a specific light with his subjective spin instead of actually providing all the facts.

MSNBC is just like Fox where it’s nothing but opinion/entertainment focused punditry instead of actual news and journalism. There’s not a shred of integrity left.

    2. @Cray Agree it’s state TV at this point.. He does have some integrity though, he is very loyal to his handlers. He’ll even do these “struggle sessions/confessions” to tell viewers how to think.

    3. @very boring films There’s only about six people that cover these protests on the ground, until all the action stops. which can be very much in the early morning hours. They have been at every key event all last year. The major news outlets buy beg borrow and steal their video clips from them. Velshi punches out and goes back to his hotel room and is most likely sound asleep by 10pm. They also present it without bias.

  13. They can’t compare BLM protests with what happened on January 6 this is to different things

    1. That point is now becoming very clear, Ry. They are bereft, one-dimensional, empty vessels, who resort to insult and deflection. And trolling in the last post too.

They’re indoctrinated. It’s a shame, but there is no reasoning with them. It’s impossible to get through, they’re closed and blinkered. It’s the education system which is to be blame, and these channels too.

It’s a huge, huge shame what’s happening in America right now, and I genuinely don’t think there’s any way back.

    2. Good on you, Ry. Spread the word and show these soft, unprincipled lefties up for what they are, wherever you go.

I’m going to head out of here now, I’m not responding to this geezer any more. He’s clearly resorted to trolling. He came in earlier, before I came in, to make a point to his audience. I’m sure they all ticked him up like the pack of indoctrinated sheep they are, without any critical thought. Then when challenged, he crumbled like a flakey pastry.

The reason he’s now resorted to trolling is because he’s a pseudo-intellectual. He came in feeling superior, with his ill-conceived comments, expecting the adulation of his fans. He leaves embarrassed, shown up for the half-baked intellectual he is.

I won’t respond to this goon any more.

Peace to you and yours ✌️

    3. @TheDiamond2009 ~ No, it was not clear; there was no earlier mention in this thread by you of others “thrusting it down everybody’s throat,” so you appear to be referencing some other comment or reply you made elsewhere–of which others like me could not reasonably be presumed to be aware. Regardless, the only people seen taking such a paranoid attitude that everyone–the media, sports, etc.–is calling them racist every day are those harboring racist attitudes. Ironically, it’s their own guilt confirming the truth of what was usually already obvious, anyway.

While noticed that you posted a rebuttal to my own reply to this comment recently, which haven’t yet read and will respond to separately, did not see any substantive arguments or points presented by you in our discussion otherwise, only hyperbolic, unsubstantiated claims.

By the way, who is your imaginary friend “Ry” you are responding to here? See no evidence of any “Ry” on this thread. Was it perhaps one of the ubiquitous sock-puppet accounts that are regularly removed for violating YouTube rules? Should that not be the inference drawn?

    4. Reply all you wish, I’m gone now, not interested in your abject failure to argue the points. You have zero credibility.

      👋🏼👋🏼👋🏼👋🏼👋🏼👋🏼👋🏼👋🏼👋🏼

    1. In their minds a burned down CVS is equal to breaking into the US Capitol and interrupting the peaceful transfer of power, and must be dealt with equally too

  14. He is so right, there should be justice of those who believe that the insurrection was okay and continue to condone it!

    1. @No Name GTFOH with that crap. Close to 94% of the BLM protests were peaceful. About 1 in 20 protests ended up in violence after dark. The truth is that the majority of the BLM protesters were doing what they rightfully can and should, and that is to peacefully protest against the injustices committed against the African American and other minority communities.
And to be fair, the pro-Trump anti-lockdown protests and the Million MAGA March protests last year were also mostly peaceful as well. While I disagree with what these people were protesting about, they also had the right to do so. Apart from the minority of violent offenders, I have no problem with any of these protests. Comparing any of these protests to what happened on Jan 6th is just a sad and pathetic way to try to ignore the severity of the attempt to subvert our democracy.
Besides that, whataboutism is an argument only a child would make. If you hated the violence you saw in the summer, then you should definitely despise what happened on Jan 6th and not act like a child with a dumb’ They did it, too.’ bullsh!t.

    2. @Rahim Majid both sides use whataboutism. It’s a really dumb term because the media and people like you use it to dismiss the actions of those you ideologically agree with. When MSNBC overwhelmingly provides positive coverage for one and then does the complete opposite for the other then it’s only fair to point out the severe inconsistencies/hypocrisy.

That’s what the vast majority of people have a problem with when it comes to MSM is the blatant lies/misrepresentation of “the other side”. It’s not journalism, it’s nothing but subjective opinion that they try to pass off as fact. The media needs to get back to covering the news and doing actual journalism.

  15. There is a difference between a purpose focused protest and a conspiracy driven mob. The former fights for change. The latter changes for fight.
