As pressure grows from progressives to offer relief for student loan borrowers, President Joe Biden said Thursday he is considering using executive authority in the coming weeks to cancel student loan debt — but less than $50,000.

"I am considering dealing with some debt reduction," Biden said to a question from USA TODAY. "I'm in the process of taking a hard look at whether or not … there will be additional debt forgiveness and I'll have an answer on that in the next couple of weeks."

Biden did not answer when asked what amount he's looking at canceling.

  1. My daughter worked her way through school… graduating in May from a state school with two degrees in biology with around $3k student loan debt. I guess she should have partied more… is that not what this garbage proposal suggests let alone that signing a note carries no consequence upon default? Also, there is no such thing as “loan forgiveness”… someone is picking up the tab for something/someone they get nothing from.

  2. At this point, I will join the army to get rid of my student loans. But I am 37 with a busted sciatic nerve. IF ONLY UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE KEPT ME IN FIGHTING SHAPE (HINT HINT)
