  1. It doesn’t have to be “retrofitted” . A person can diy as long as they follow code. The point is an affordable alternative, not hire a company that will profit. The biggest challenge is transporting it to the location and building the correct foundation.

    1. “Following code” has been the recipe for many disasters. Cut cost end up with thrice the cost.

    2. @Haddingtonian GCP that’s true, but what can you do if you don’t have the money? Everyone needs a place to live. Being crowded too many in a house causes argument and stress.

    3. @Haddingtonian GCP it’s sad really. Housing is a human right as far as I’m concerned, but that’s a whole other subject. I know container homes have a stigma, but there’s nothing to be ashamed about to have your own place to lie your head down at night.

  2. The container homes great for huge land masses but not for small masses when the salt air so easily rot.

    1. U actual do
      *Nerd cap on*
The container is structural rigid by design and making any cut on the container compromises the container

    2. @Ramon Kelly hence you reinforce and ensure you make it firm, you don’t need and expert to do that, just need common Sense

    3. @Rajah Boothe I hope you don’t go about that approach with everything in life? Using your brain on an issue someone is an expert in sure needs an expert’s input. Hope you don’t wire your whole place up just by using your brain, no electrical wiring experience. Fire coming 😂

    4. @Haddingtonian GCP lol 😂, I try to use my brain in all cases, but the doesn’t mean I don’t seek expert advice, please sometimes what the expert recommended isn’t what’s required.

  3. Honestly I here JAMAICAN people bashing containers homes 🏡 but I see beautiful apartment’s fully made from containers luxurious fit for kings or queen

    1. but you see container shops and offices all over the place and I never hear anyone bashing them so the questionis is anyone rally bashing it or is this just media hype?

    2. Don’t worry it soon take off. Many Jamaicans live above their means so it takes time but in Canada and the states container homes are successfully doing well. I think it’s more the aesthetics of it and ppl don’t realize that now with technology you can make them look beautiful and they don’t look like containers

  4. If i have a piece of land already.. why would i pay 3mil upwards for a container house kmt please.. but to each his own.

  5. Container houses will never end the housing crisis, it’s a niche for the rich to say that they practice sustainability

  6. Listen , I don’t know why these have not been used in Jamaica over the past decades. In America there are container communities. And I have never heard anything negative about these communities in terms of problems with these types of homes. We need to get with it asap.

  7. To make a container into a home in Jamaica, cost are going to rack up. Also, how will the humidity affect the structure? In the end, this won’t be an affordability issue (because it nah go cheaper when u get contractors, architects/engineers, etc…). It will come down to a preference issue. Do you prefer concrete or container. And I can’t knock having more options

  8. I’m very excited bout this, but I’m hoping it’s made properly knowing some times Jamaicans love to cut cost and cut corners.
