Disney cancels billion-dollar Florida campus, DeSantis says he’s ‘not surprised’

Disney upped the ante in its battle with Florida’s Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis, and it cost his state 2,000 white-collar jobs. Disney is scrapping plans to build a $1 billion office complex in Florida, citing “changing business conditions,” according to a memo provided by a Disney spokesperson. #CNN #News

    1. They actually could go to Canada if they set up in B.C. It is next to San Francisco and weather would be good too.

    1. well, the GQP make a LOT of claims about VALUES that they cannot do the follow-through performance

    1. Disney is definitely hurting for money rn. They’ve spent massive amounts of money on buying franchises that arent working out. Marvel movies, Star Wars IP, Fox, etc. They’re losing money on all of it & the parks are really keeping them from legitimately drowning. Thats why theyre fighting this so hard.

    2. Why do you think they are so desperate to keep reedy creek? They can’t compete anymore without it.

    1. Florida is doing better than most of the states. Our economy is one of the best in the country, and it’s still on the rise. Our crime rate is below national average. Approximately 1,000 people a day are moving here. Google it, Florida is actually going great with DeSantis as our governor.

  2. First, he handed the keys to housing insurance crisis to the insurance companies. Then he emptied out the farme and construction sites, in a state eith turbulent weather. Now, he’s this. His fiscal dense is spot on.👍😂🤣😂

    1. The guy doesn’t have an orginal thought in his little brain. Whoever is lining his palms tells him what to say

    2. @HAMIE63M If some are to be believed… it’s his super politically ambitious wife pulling some of his strings.

  3. The lose of 2000 professional jobs is just the tip of the iceberg. Think of all the jobs that are now lost during the construction of the campus. How many jobs and businesses have been lost that would have been necessary to support a complex like this.

My guess is that Disney planned the move to better support Walt Disney World as they planned future expansions. This campus was to house the creative staff that develop the attractions and experiences at Disney World. This may be a signal that they’re rethinking their future plans. I wouldn’t blame them. If DeSantis is an indication of the future political and business direction in Florida, the state is in trouble.

    1. @Chad Leach Disney can make that campus 160 times over if they wanted to. It was because of Death DeSatan getting into fights with mice that caused it to be canceled.

  4. Desantis is the best thing to happen to that hellscape. Keep sticking up for Disney. I’m sure that’ll look good on your conscience.

  5. When I found out Desantis is a ivy league grad I knew nothing would change if he became president

  6. I can’t wait for them to announce they will reinstate the $1B deal back to Florida when he gets primaried out. They should make that announcement 1 min after his press conference of conceding or bowing out of the race!!

  7. It is not really cutting 2,000 jobs though since many of those jobs were going to be filled by current employees. Regardless there is no indication that this was cancelled due to anything but it not being a financially sound choice right now.

  8. Fun fact: desanctus’ wedding was at Disney, he is Gaston without the buffness . . . ❤ GOD Bless Everyone
