    1. There is a difference between subdural (venous bleeding and slower) and an epidural (arterial blood and faster) brain bleed, the latter being what Natasha Richardson died from, where you’re fine at first and then quickly deteriorate. My grandfather had many acute and chronic subdural bleeds as we have a genetic collagen defect making us more prone to bruising and bleeding. They told him he couldn’t take one more knock and unfortunately he did and passed away 2 days later. My mother and I have to be super careful with injuries.

  1. I fell down a couple of steps at work one day, and went to my doctor’s office after my boss told me to (the fall was entirely my fault, I didn’t want to open an L&I claim). My doc asked if my head hit the floor when the rest of me did, and I told her TBH I didn’t remember. BAM! she immediately sent me to get a head MRI. No damage, thankfully, but still…. after what happened to Liam Neeson’s wife (among other victims), I get the impression the medical community is taking the banging of heads into hard things more seriously.

  2. Thank you Dr. Sanjay Gupta. My mother is a Registered ®️ Nurse so like you, she understands this. Whether it is a broken blood vessel (hemorrhaging) or hematoma, bleeding is bleeding & that needs to be checked out immediately.

  3. This happened to me as a child. Only it was day time, and I was at school.
I fell backwards head first and cracked my skull. There was no cut, initial bump hurt, and 45min later i got a horrible headache, then i went to Dr.s office, and at that point i passed out. Woke up 30hrs later in the Hospital clueless to what had happened. I would have died had i went home and went to bed due to the headache symptoms. Bob Saget was alone in a Hotel getting ready for bed.
Now, if i ever see someone bump there head, i ensure someone monitor them, and give them my advise.
I was hit in the head some years later by a line-drive softball hit, and hit me in the head. I could not sleep that night, and asked my wife to check on me a bit.
    Please take this to heart.

  4. After being brought by ambulance to the hospital ER, then leaving my dad on a gurney in the ER for four hours after he had a stroke , which he never recuperated from, it was determined that stroke victims need to be treated WITHIN AN HOUR to avoid irreversible brain damage. My dad never had a chance because they let him slowly bleed out for hours. He was a vegetable by the time they operated, then died from cardiac arrest 6 months later in an end of life nursing home .

    1. I am so very sorry for your loss. The way he was treated, or rather not treated, is absolutely unacceptable! I agree with others, I hope you sued them, though of course litigation after medical negligence/ trauma can be very difficult (I’m speaking from experience). If it’s a hemorrhagic stroke treatment needs to be pretty immediate and if it’s caused by a clot it’s best to treat within the first hour (ie. the golden hour) but tPa can work up to 4hrs from symptom onset. The most important first step is a CT or MRI and checking blood clotting factors. Do you know what type of stroke and any treatment they gave? You don’t have to go into it obviously and I’m sorry for asking, I’m just absolutely appalled by his treatment. Stroke is a serious medical emergency. WTF?! Did they have a whole floor in cardiac arrest and everyone working on them? Was the hospital actively on fire at the time? Like what excuse do they possibly have?! Stroke symptoms can never be ignored let alone for frickin hours! I am so damn mad on your behalf and my heart just breaks for you.

    2. Dear Lord… I am so so sorry that happened to your Dad and you and your family had to suffer through such a terrible experience. Thanks for sharing, we did not know this info, please God I dont ever need this info for a family member, but I do know this if I do. Life come throw some weird stuff at us!! My brother committed suicide about 3 years ago, the shock was so deep, I felt like I was floating in my head, my chemical system went for a loop. So I know how the shock of these experiences get to you. So sorry again

  5. Head trauma should never be ignored. This is incredibly sad. We watched AFV every Sunday after dinner at my moms house, thank you Bob for the memories! ☮️

  6. I am the type to sleep off pain, wonder if after hitting his head assumed he could just sleep it off. Its sad, condolences to his fam, forever my fav TV dad

    1. Mike Oxtints That’s my issue as well. I’ve broken bones and kept working. I’ve had 30 hits to the head and when I finally got an MRI it showed over 55 lesions on my brain from axial force. Turns out I don’t feel pain like a normal person so would just continually hurt myself and think it was normal or a minor issue. I now have permanent post concussion syndrome.

  7. As someone whos had a head injury after a car wreck, it is vital you get medical attention. I was sent in for a MRI series, luckily it was minor and I had a rockin’ headache for a day or two after. Still, im glad to have had it done..

    1. I don’t normally go to the hospital unless I have to- but a crash on my mountain bike with head injury, I definitely went- 👍 to you

  8. My hear goes out to his family and freinds, I had a TBI with a Concussion years ago but have been have symptoms of head trauma coming back. To anyone having symptoms of a head injury or past head iniury don’t hold it off to see your doctor because having a new head injiury or past head injury should not be ignored you don’t want to suffer though bad consequences like I have and are still coping through having a Head Injury. 🙏 RIP Bob Saget 😇 You are missed.

  9. This happened to me 3 years ago. I hit my cheek bone on a hard metal bar in June. It hurt so bad that I saw stars . Didn’t give it much thought, but weeks later, I got a horrible headache over my left eye . And then whenever I was around bright lights I got an instant headache.Well, in August I got one of those headaches while in a Walmart with my sisters so we left to go home and on the way home I was trying to talk and my worlds were all gibberish I told my sisters just take me home and I’ll take a nap and feel better luckly they took me to the hospital where I had surgery for a subdural hematoma from hitting my head way back in June .I know now I was fortunate to survive.

    1. That happened to one of my relatives! He was working on a construxtion site and a falling 2×4 hir him in the head. He had a helmet on, his initial concern was that his neck was ok. But after a few days he started getting severe headaches that became almost constant. His wife persuaded him to go to the hospital, and he had a slow bleed happening that they said would have killed him.

  10. My late best friend was beaten in the head and face. It shattered her cheekbones and nose and split her lips from nose to chin. She never knew who did that to her. We’d walk together daily after she recovered enough and talk about how the Oak Bluffs police (on Martha’s Vineyard ) failed to investigate her facially disfiguring assault. We also tried to do some detective work on our own. Both of us were year round residents on the island and taxpaying homeowners there. But we were also female. Lots of men wanted us to sell out and go away from their sacred island. A year after the attack she died, suddenly, at age 44. No autopsy, no investigation, she was cremated within 24 hours of her death. I asked the local newspaper I worked for to help find out what happened but they wouldn’t even let me write an obituary for her. Such is the importance of keeping the tourism economy rich down there. I left a few months later, after I was harassed by the Oak Bluffs chief of police. As a single woman with a home I knew I’d be killed next. So, head trauma can kill you. Not always just after the initial blows. It can take a long time to die from the injuries. My friend’s death took a year. I never returned to the island.

  11. Also a reminder that “Oh its just a concussion” is dangerous nonsense. A concussion is also small a brain trauma that has the severity range of ‘get checked and then rest at home’ to ‘you gonna be at the hospital for a day or two just to be safe, son’. You only have one brain and its really important and difficult to fix. Take care of it.

  12. My husband pointed out that Sagat was pretty tall so bumping his head probably wasn’t uncommon. Unfortunately he might have thought nothing of “just another bump”.

  13. My Friend had an Accident while Playing
Basketball and he Started to Sleep there
in the Middle of the Court. I had to Keep
him Awake and rush him to a Hospital. 😒

  14. I fell on the ice in 2015 and was alone, unconscious, for nearly an hour. Unfortunately, a brain injury doesn’t generally doesn’t give you a clear picture of what’s happened. I was unaware for days and it took a while to get medical attention. I ended up leaving my job within 2 months because my brain just couldn’t function normally anymore.

  15. So glad he ‘splained this properly .. I used to assist in autopsies and would often see an elderly person who had developed an egg on the forehead after a bad fall which in turn caused an intercranial bleed on the distal side of the brain (coup contrecoup)

  16. Sometimes simply flopping on the bed after a long day.. Hitting it on the headboard or bumping into a doorframe on the way to the bathroom..it doesn’t have to be a huge bump.

  17. I nearly died from a head injury while inadvertently riding a malfunctioning scooter in the early 2000s, it was bad. You get dizzy, you start to forget, everything goes black, then it goes back to normal and the headaches are horrible too. Luckily my family rescued me in time (it was my fault for not wearing a helmet, I was a silly kid). My family told me never to sleep because people who hit their heads don’t really know if your inner wound is worse than you think. I went to my doctor (that same day) and he also told me the same thing: “If you accidentally hit your head badly, go to the emergency room with a family member or call 911.” But never fall asleep. My heart really breaks and I’m so sorry.
