  1. “The IRA could never hurt Europe”. Some clueless bureaucrats in Brussels, couldn’t have come up with a more appropriate name for the deal/agreement or whatever it is!

  2. I fully support Ursula von der Leyen and watch most of her actions with great respect for the way she relentlessly drive the European Commission. However, I am disappointed with her evasive uncommitted answers to Christiane Amanpour’s questions just repeating that “the EU will support Ukraine with whatever it takes”. Since it is left to each individual EU members to provide support to Ukraine, her commitment is unrealistic and misguiding. She keeps repeating that Europe has shown unity facing Russia. It is time for this unity to be concretized by helping Ukraine and, consequently, protecting the Western world and democracy.

    1. I agree. Easy to make empty promises. What is Europe waiting for? More mass graves? More energy facilities to be bombed?
This war will continue to get worse unless Germany & France seriously commit to helping Ukraine. Poland & UK can’t do it all.

  3. Have you ever heard a more serious and level-headed interview between to men? I learned to watch Amanpour, long time ago, inspired by my mother that passed away in April, and over the years I have grown to trust her. President Ursula von der Leyen relays her views with clarity and precision, wording delicate issues diplomatic, without even a hint of being vague. The world will forever be grateful for her leadership on Ukraine, a country that in time will be regarded on pair with any European nation. Thank you both for doing your work for all of us!

    1. @mironwg1 Certainly a Russian bot would think so, as well as a fascist Putin lackey. It would be worrying if you didn’t think so.

    2. @Elizabeth Pedano butt hurt ? 😀

Just not a fan of gender politics, you think women are superior to men?

I guess ignorant people don’t realise it

    3. If there were more women in positions of leadership, we wouldn’t be in as big of a mess. That said, these two women are exceptional 👏

    4. @Samantha No problem with the two women you are applauding

No evidence that women leaders means no conflict

UKs first female pm took Britain to War with Argentina

  4. Hey…ya ever notice how all the people that have the ability to give Ukraine whatever it wants always say “We should give Ukraine whatever they need for as long as it takes” but they don’t do it? Weird huh?

    1. @Sir Oliver lol – I hope Ukraine get’s a lot more for the same result, just much worse for them.

      Maybe you are the bot?

    2. @BRUCEwayneISsober69 they are getting what they deserve for picking sides in the 2016 civil war and not speaking out when their government was bombing and killing civilian and militia targets while claiming it was the rebels attacking the people they were fighting to protect from the ukrainian government

    3. Again. After censored free speech here 🤪🤪🤪Socialism/Communism/WEF/NWO/WHO/Mediavirus are systems 💸💸💸🐽of international control and conformity.
Its avowed program is to destroy totally the religion, government, institutions and traditions of … the world of every religion and culture.

Those rulers propose to substitute a whole new SYSTEM of thought and control dictated from Communist Party headquarters.

They think that a few theorists and rulers know what is best for everyone and they are determined to drive everyone toward that kind of world.”

  5. “EU Commission president (says) Western allies need to ‘step up’ military support to (blessed) Ukraine” so let’s “Convince It Forward” with Slava BOHU

  6. I agree 👍. It seems that the USA 🇺🇸 is doing the most everybody needs to step up and stop this madness from Putin.

    1. It may seem that way – the US certainly gets the most press. And it IS giving the most as a total (but I suspect it will get far more in return from weapon purchases from misc. countries). But not per capita or by GDP.
If we look at commitment by GDP, the US is #9 according to Ukraine support tracker – at 0.229% of GDP.

      #1 – Estonia at 1.03%
      #2 – Latvia
      #3 – Poland
      #4 – Lithuania
      #5 – Norway
      #6 – UK
      #7 – Czech republic
      #8 – Canada
      #9 – USA

If anybody needs to step up its the bigger EU countries such as Germany, France, Spain and Italy!

  7. Thank you Ukraine for defending Democracy and Freedom. The FREE world needs to step up their game and help and support you so their sons and daughters can live a safe, carefree and happy life out of range of Russian bombs and rockets and missiles . Slava Ukraine.

    1. While they continue to bomb their own people in the yeah Ukraine great country just one of the most corrupt in the world

  8. The EU has virtually embargoed trade from Australia for generations. Australia is one of the very few democracies (a significantly longer lived democracy than all continental European democracies) that is a substantial supplier of rare earths yet Europe excludes dealing with Australia in favour of unreliable autocracies and failed states with no environmental credentials in extraction and refining. Why? The strategic imbecility of Europe is at the forefront, again.

  9. While I understand the First Lady’s sentiments, I don’t see the war as a threat to democracy in the West. Certainly not to the U.S. They have the ability to send one missile and take out Putin at any time. And they track his every movement. If anything this war shows us how weak Russia really is. That being said, I believe Ukraine will win the war in the end because their people will NEVER give up nor stop fighting.

  10. Thank you so much for all of the wonderful reporting you do Ms Amanpour. Could you help me, and the rest of us, understand why a country that presided over the worst genocide in Europe in recent memory has absolutely no compassion for and no interest in helping the Ukrainians who are being slaughtered just the way that Germany slaughtered the Jews. It feels like their at it again this time with acts of Omission.

If Germany itself doesn’t want to send leopard tanks, then fine, don’t send them. But there are other countries that have leopards that are willing to send theirs and Germany won’t let them. I just don’t understand this, and I know I’m not the only one. It’s because of that one man that thousands of Ukrainians are being terrorized and murdered. How can he not feel guilty about this? What makes this acceptable to him? Who is his allegiance to, who is pulling the puppet strings?

Thank you for explaining this to thousands and thousands of us.

    1. Thanks for asking these most valued questions. Germany is morally bankrupt, has zero empathy, and is only driven by money.

    2. Thanks to president Putin and the Russian federation for their good job 💪✌🇷🇺🇷🇺🇷🇺🇷🇺🇷🇺🇷🇺💓💓

    3. With all due respect, your words are based on prejudice and false facts. Germany has already delivered many weapons to Ukraine, supports Ukraine enormously financially and takes care of many refugees from Ukraine.
Germany cannot agree to the leopards being passed on because the other states have not yet requested the release. Not because Germany refuses to do so. By the way, very many Germans are in favor of supplying tanks from their own stocks.

    4. @graphite “Germany is morally bankrupt, has zero empathy, and is only driven by money.” Simple worldview of a simple mind. The fact is that the USA has so far provided 48 billion euros in financial aid and the EU 35 billion; the current financial package brings the EU in total to 51.8 billion euros. As the largest EU net contributor, Germany bears the greatest burden. Moreover, Germany as a country is the fourth largest supporter of Ukraine after the US, the EU and the UK and the largest supporter compared to the other EU countries.

  11. Ukraine has been asking for air defense since this war started and almost a year later it is still being discussed! What is the hold up. The front line of the war looks mid evil. We can do better! 💪🇺🇦❤️🇺🇸

    1. Countries around the world giving weapons to the Ukraine and Putin is still crushing the Ukraine and will continue to crush the Ukraine

    2. I think western countries are worried about where the weapons will end, maybe in the black market? Also worried about losing technology if weapons are seized by the enemy. But we should overcome these fears and help Ukraine to defeat Russia asap. Russia is after democracy and wants to invade old soviet countries.

  12. ***Croatian President Zoran Milanovic has said the United States and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) are engaged in a proxy war against Russia through Ukraine, Croatian media reported on Monday.
“Washington and NATO are waging a proxy war against Russia through Ukraine,” Milanovic was quoted as saying while addressing a conference in the eastern city of Vukovar on Sunday.
Milanovic also slammed Western sanctions against Russia. Milanovic said, adding that the U.S. and NATO “are shifting from one war to another.”

  13. Cost-effective strategy is to provide full support to Ukraine for Safer, stronger 💪 EU, NATO and Peaceful World.

  14. I’m a Ukrainian. Yes, Ukraine needs more military support. Ukraine can’t negotiate with Russia because of 3 reasons:
    1) Russia invaded Ukraine & wants to occupy it.
    2) ALL peaceful agreements that Russia signed with Ukraine were violated by Russia. The most well-known one is the Budapest Memorandum that was signed by Russia & later violated by Russia
    3) Russia has huge ambitions because Russia wants to capture not just Ukraine, but several other European countries

    1. I think we can’t negotiate with russia bc that would show future nations they can win wars under their nuclear umbrella.

    2. Your country ‘can’t’ negotiate with Russia because it walked away from the negotiating table. Do you remember the Cuban missile crisis ? After saying NATO will expand East not one more inch …. that’s exactly what it did (U.S James Baker I think).
Ukraine failed to live up to its Minsk agreements.
Shelled its own people for 8 years.
And for fighting a proxy war for the U.S in your own country ….. you will probably lose it all now. Who the f elects an actor with no political or diplomatic experience, as their President for gods sake !!
Ukraine is now reaping what it has sown over the last 15-20 years. So be it.

  15. Always inspiring to see a journalist who doesn’t throw “softball” questions and that FOLLOWS UP. Never satisfied with people trying to evade an answer to her question. Love her!

  16. Hi Christiane – long time follower, is it possible to do a shown on the International Criminal Courts actions (or as I see it, lack of) in relation to the “happenings” in Ukraine – thanks.

  17. 3:35 He should absolutely send the 55 Leopard 1A5 MBTs that are ready for immediate shipment right away and should get all the other Leopard 1A5 MBTs ready for delivery but when it comes to the Leopard 2 there’s simply not enough to go around and it’s really unnecessary to send the few we have since the Leopard 1A5 MBTs are still superior to the tanks Russia is currently fielding.

    1. – According to Rainmetal, it takes at least a year to prepare even the 60 Leopard 1s, those the manufacture has.
But even if they send Leopard 2, this can be the result.
Kurdish women with Russian Konkurs AT missiles vs Leopard 2.
Turkey lost 60-70 Leopard 2, in a month invasion. The west wants to send 50 to Ukraine.
This is not wunder waffen 🙂
Zelensky”s wife is nice in her 40k usd dress, but, why she does not and fight as the Kurdish women did. Instead of spending 40k in an hour in the fassion district of Paris. ?
