Florida Governor DeSantis teases a new state prison near Disney World | USA TODAY

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis suggested a new state prison be built near Disney World after slamming the company for not following state laws.

The governor, who is expected to announce a run for president in the coming weeks, pushed through legislation last year taking away Disney's self-governing status in Florida. The legislation gives the state oversight over the company's Central Florida properties, but in a surprise move Disney found a way to nullify the state's authority shortly before the new law took effect.

Now DeSantis wants to overturn Disney's efforts to slip out of state control, accusing the company of doing "special deals" that “would essentially render everything that we did null and void.”

    1. @Logan Zimmerman in all fairness universal is going to over take Disney at this point. The experience is better the quality is better

    2. @AskJeeves Cosby I know it may be unlikely but don’t think Ron won’t go after Universal if they do something to piss him off. I’m not saying he or universal will do anything.

    1. Disney World is the only reason we aren’t a backwood swamp. We are a tourism state, whether you like it or not. Leave Florida and see how shitty the roads are paved. You don’t need a sign to let you know you’ve left Florida, you can feel it through your tires. The taxes from tourism pays for that, it certainly doesn’t come from our taxes 😂. Ron should focus on his shaky presidential bid and leave us well enough alone.

    2. @Jessjess23 Brooks Florida’s $23BILLION SURPLUS in 2022 wasn’t just because of Disney. And, the fact more people are Moving to Florida than any other State. There are Multiple Attractions around Orlando that don’t have the same privileges as Disney

    3. @Nancy King Actually Universal and Seaworld are both in Special districts as well. Busch Gardens and Adventure Island do not.

  1. I hope, just hope, that somehow he manages to push them too far and they just up and leave. I would love to see that happen.
