George Santos gets committee assignments despite calls to resign

Embattled freshman Rep. George Santos has been awarded seats on two low-level committees after House Republicans debated where to put the New York congressman, who is facing mounting legal issues and growing calls to resign for extensively lying about his resume.
Several GOP sources told CNN that the House Republican Steering Committee, controlled by Speaker Kevin McCarthy and his top allies, tapped Santos to serve on two House panels: the Committee on Small Business and the Committee on Science, Space, and Technology. Santos had privately lobbied GOP leaders to serve on two more high-profile committees, one overseeing the financial sector and another on foreign policy, but top Republicans rejected that pitch as some chairmen balked at adding him to their panels.
Still, Republican leaders for now have decided to treat Santos like any other member of the House, even as questions grow over his past and as some have raised security concerns about allowing him to have access to classified briefings. #georgesantos #cnnnewsroom #CNN

  1. You can tell how much more reasonable these republicans are becoming by how they refuse to reward liars quite as nicely as they want to be rewarded…

    1. @notheissue I blame it on the voters tbh. Criminality is in human nature. It’s the people that vote for these guy’s and gal’s knowing damn well they have no moral compass and assume power strictly for their own personal financial gain, and they only aim to control Americans, not help them.

  2. George Santos best field goal kicker in Dallas cowboy history. Had to sacrifice lungs, tongue, 3 toes, eyesight and knee cap. Scored over 650 points to set NFL record that still stands. Also. Most extra points ,most extra points in a row, plus longest in league history.

    1. Apparently the only thing he doesn’t sacrifice in his mouth is a cheeseburger… and a certain part of the male anatomy that if I mention what it is… they’ll remove this text.. 😉.

    2. He, he, he, Liberals must be LOVING THIS. They’ve known all along that Santos was intentionally planted by the Left. And conservatives bought it hook line and sinker. You gotta love his drag photo. They’ll almost certainly find out he’s really full-fledged LGBQ. He’s a real sweetie pie. You Far-Right conservatives will just love him. And it’s too late to get rid of him. Oh my, this is just too good.

    1. @Mike people like you have no shame and you hate America.
People like you are destroying America and you are proud on that just because you are not able to think with yours brain, it`s just scary what kind of people have a right to vote in America

    2. @Salt Daemon this is so wild to me . gop dnc we’re still american linking up with putin is so crazy and unamerican

  3. It’s just amazing how the “party of national security” is acting so obtuse to serious concerns.

    1. @Sean McCartney let no one tell you that they are the same classified document are not the same as top secret for your eyes only documents they are different levels of clearance

    1. @Kwokfan Fan no idea but they are republican so they dont have any really issue with him it all for the power

    2. @Kwokfan Fan They would just get replaced with people without a moral compass as the majority of that party is just that

  4. Santos has come up with the best ever strategy for getting people into small businesses. The same as what he has always done, get a big business and wait six months

  5. If he said he stole the checkbook and forged a check maybe that means he didn’t. Yes trying to communicate with him is going to be very irritating for whoever has to do it.

    1. The same party that lets its members prosper on insider trading…and Lest we forget Eric Swalwell and his affair with a Chinese spy while still being allowed to serve on the House intelligence committee. Your one sided bias and hypocrisy is annoying.

    2. A desperate one obviously, he’s a national security risk for one thing, does anyone actually know his real past or even name, how can you risk the country on this guy when you know nothing about him…surely someone in the party has enough commonsense to not risk everything,Mccarthy has none ,he sold his soul to achieve his goal and will realise sooner rather than later what a mistake he made, but surely there’s an adult in the party somewhere, all they want to do is attack everyone else, probably because they have no idea on policy or how a country even runs ,from the outside looking in they are there for the wrong reasons,if this is not the case then tell us how your going to make things better for your bosses,we the people, your suppose to do what’s right for them instead of yourselves which seems to be your game

  6. This knuckle head should be Speaker of the House. He’s the most shining example of GOP politics I’ve ever seen.

  7. And if he had a “D” after his name instead of an “R”, McCarthy would be screaming out loud for him to resign, or be expelled.

  8. This is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of the utter meltdown of our society. Thank you for the great reporting, interviewing, and wise commentary.

    1. @Cratis Giatis Why can’t this world be obsessed with exploring the universe so much that we complain about to much spending on that.

  9. If you don’t know who he really is, you can’t know who he isn’t. The man is an ‘effin’ security risk. This is absurd.

  10. Everything is so absurd in politics these days. McConnell thinks he’s Obi-Wan Kenobi, saying “George Santos is just a regular Congressman. He’s not the liar you are looking for.” Are we going to fall for that?
