  1. they raised prices for a year and then will freeze them at the higher level, until they are raised again… how generous

    1. I noticed in NB they put the price of margarine up to almost 10 dollars then when it is on sale once a month, it is at the price it used to several months ago. And that price is still more expensive than it is in some other provinces at regular price. Keep in mind NB is a company province though and does lack competition.

  2. Who cares if it’s a PR stunt as long as it helps. I’d be more impressed if they’d bring prices back down.

    1. Did you see all the massive spending of the Liberal-NDP federal government which has resulted in soaring inflation?

    1. Unfortunately the Westons have almost total control over the Grocery stores in this country, drug stores as well. I avoid their stores

    2. Poor Chris Ruth doesn’t seem to understand what actually causes inflation.

Price increases are NOT the cause of inflation; they are the SYMPTOM of inflation. The CAUSE of inflation is the national government, through its central bank, inflating the currency supply with massive, sudden, unsupported spending. Which is exactly what has happened in Canada and most other countries. This is basic economics.

If you don’t like prices soaring, then blame the ones actually responsible for it: the Liberal-NDP federal government.

    3. Yep. The bastardized version of it with its failure of the trickle down strategy.

Price gouging has contributed a substantial amount to the inflation we see. No lack of evidence showing the corrupt corporate price gouging during a national emergency and now plus record-level profits which do not comport with inflation pressures due to rising costs. Some major corporation have admitted this already; basically saying the were pricing what the market could bear and that no big corporation today is competing for low overhead and that internal costs have nothing to do with consumer pricing.

    4. @Primmakin Sofis Price gouging and accounting schemes and gimmicks also contribute to inflation. Of course due to government policy favouring corporations over the middle class and small businesses.

  3. I eat out every day it is cheaper and more convenient too and the best part is Walmart lost billions in business too.

  4. Loblaw’s prices are among the highest in major Canadian grocery chains. If it’s already at a 50% higher price, that freeze means NOTHING!
