    1. Acquit because a former president who’s now a private citizen can’t be convicted. Impeachment is for removal.

    4. @Cameron Kear Impeachment is NOT just for removal. Here is the literal text. “The Senate shall have the sole Power to try all Impeachments. When sitting for that Purpose, they shall be on Oath or Affirmation. When the President of the United States is tried, the Chief Justice shall preside: And no Person shall be convicted without the Concurrence of two-thirds of the Members present. Judgment in Cases of Impeachment shall not extend further than to removal from Office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any Office of honor, Trust or Profit under the United States; but the Party convicted shall nevertheless be liable and subject to Indictment, Trial, Judgment and Punishment, according to Law.”

      The part about “Judgment in Cases of Impeachment shall not extend further than to removal from Office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any Office of honor, Trust or Profit under the United States…”, Is the relevant part.

      While yes the senate can’t remove him from office for obvious reasons. The senate can still disqualify him from future office and any pension and trust. That’s the part you and the republicans are leaving out, and it’s so disingenuous.

  7. Sorry, I’m not impressed by McConnell’s strategic skills. It was scheming, calculating politicians in late 1932-Jan 33 that enabled Hitler’s accession to power. We need a lot more people to act on principle, not political calculation.
