Yeah but its not AirBNB babe. AirBNB is a fancy way to rent a house for a few days up to a week or more. You sign an agreement. In the end its not your house and things need to be maintained.
People need to stop supporting AirB&B anyway. It’s hardly people renting out their own spaces anymore. It’s landloards, people looking for a quick buck, and even corporations buying up as many properties as they can and making them unavailable for any long term residents to make more money on vacation rentals. This is DIRECTLY contributing to the housing and rental crisis we are seeing. Entire buildings and blocks of what should be affordable family homes and apartments are being taken off the market, making rentals more scarce and WAY more expensive. PLEASE do not support AirB&B.

Honestly, I enjoy the process of straightening up a home I have been living in…especially in a foreign country it’s a bit of a novelty. Also, when I stay in a hotel I also straighten up the room (putting used towels together, putting trash together neatly.) You are renting a lodging not being elevated to royalty.
Ditto. Doesn’t matter if the place has a maid I’m still going to clean up after myself.
There is straightening up and putting out the trash, and then there are long lists of chores. One guy was told to mow the yard. I don’t mind putting trash into a bin or putting all the towels together. Even sweeping the floor. But stripping the bed, washing, folding, and putting them all away is a bit much. Some were told to buy their own cleaning supplies. When you are paying for a cleaning service to come in behind you, that is a bit much.
@Lynn Betts That’s weird. I’ve stayed in a lot of AirBnBs, mostly in Canada and Israel. They usually provided coffee and tea, sugar, salt, cooking oil, cleaning supplies, soap, paper towels, a sponga or mop, washing powder (if there was a washing machine). I’ve never had a chore list, just a polite request to leave the place as clean as we found it.
I agree! Taking out trash, putting bedding in laundry, etc … Next time it will be wiping the floor and vacuuming before you leave!

if only hotels would do the one thing that would make them competitive – drop the insane rates they charge for a bed, a door, and a toilet.
The problem is they’re maintaining a very large facility. The rates are high because you’re also paying in part to defray the expenses of vacant rooms. And of course occupancy depends on the season. If you have a hotel with 300 rooms and you’ve only rented 100 the owner is still paying for the other 200 rooms better just sitting there unoccupied.
I don’t need to feel at home while staying at a hotel, just give me a clean place at a decent price. Period.

As an Owner of a cleaning company, I’ve stopped accepting Airbnb cleaning requests. The clients charge lots of money for cleaning from their guests and bargain or pay so little to cleaning companies/person with a long list of tasks. Their peanuts don’t worth the hustle. I am sticking with my weekly and bi-weekly clients as they pay way much more. This is my personal experience and opinion. Maybe others prefer Airbnb turnover than anything else and I respect their option.

I live in an urban area where apartments are in direct conflict with new arrivals trying to find a place to rent and many people live in AirBnB’s while they wait many months on waitlists to get a place that doesn’t have bugs and crack pipes. There are 2 sides to every story. My guests are the ones that tell me this and some of them give up and move back to where they came from because the financial requirements to get the apartments are as stringent as buying a house. It’s pretty sad but at least they didn’t have to fork over a fortune in a crap motel in a scary neighborhood while they waited.

@AriSiMom Where I live, yes, you are most certainly right. But don’t crap on AirBnB when it’s obviously a problem with greedy hosts. There is so much $ to be made with reasonable rates via AirBnB. People should stop supporting the kind of listings this segment is complaining about because it’s not normal. Stay in listings that have good reviews and fair rates. This is capitalism, put the greedy ones out of business instead of targeting the platform that has been very good to my family.

How many AirBnB hosts these days are actually renting out their own home instead of rather renting out some extra real estate that they happen to own or that they specifically bought to rent out on AirBnB? I stayed in one Culver City AirBnB, where the renter had moved in with his girlfriend, but didn’t want to give up his apartment. Just in case it didn’t work out. Another, in the SF Valley, belonged to a guy who had to go home for a month, to serve in the reserves.
The additional fees are getting outrageous. I realize the owners need to make up for the covid period but the last time I used that service the cleaning fee was high and they wanted so many “chores” done. I’m on vacation. I don’t want to clean on top of high cleaning fee.

Ruining family neighborhoods and tanking property values. Then your property gets trashed, the neighbors sue you. We need housing, not vacation rentals and FYI desperate landlords are selling out to Corporations making them perpetual rentals. Which again, lowers the neighborhood property values.

Omg, THE CHORES!! I spent 2 hours at the end of my beach vacation doing the damn chore list. That was my LAST AIR B&B!!

@wes huff it was beyond cleaning up after ourselves. 🙄 It was 2 hours and when I’m paying a hefty cleaning fee, I don’t expect to be doing laundry and taking out trash.
Some places are nitpicky, some places just don’t care, the one I’m staying now literally send me a list of infractions, like using too much toilet paper, using the kitchen too frequently, staying too long in the shared area, not cleaning the kitchen cleanly enough… there was about 14 points, usually it’s best to rent from someone who doesn’t stay there, and especially female hosts are full of these “requests”, and when you don’t do it to their liking, they give u a bad review, even when you did everything but just not the way they like! So far not a single bad review from male hosts, in fact I extended my stay with them on many occasions. Once I had a review where she complained about my drinking, there was nothing in the listing against that, and when I asked her for a corkscrew, she didn’t tell me either!
Heck, mortgage rates have been worse! Take the 90’s for instance, when I was selling real estate, the average mortgage rate was about 7%. Some were higher but if you could afford to buy a few points you could get a lower rate.
