Sen. Markey: Will Do 'Whatever We Can' To Raise Minimum Wage, Including Removing Filibuster

  1. What about Helping seniors by eliminating The windfall elimination provision and GPO under Social Security. Senior citizens have been forgotten. Many are unable to supplement their Social Security by working through the Covid Pandemic. Our co-pays on her medication’s and insurances have increased since the start of the pandemic. Thank you for your careful consideration

    1. Hope so too on your topic.
Think a lot of seniors voted Republican and Trump tho. So it’ll take longer to get to social security. At least social security gets a cost of living increase unlike unemployment max which has started the same for over 20 years from what I see as an HR mgr.

    2. Seniors voted for Trump or they voted for Biden in the primaries. Or they did not vote at all. – good luck with dragging Biden to do the right thing – for ANYONE. Bombed Syria, fought for Neera Tenden the Corporatist.

  2. Yeah.. not with manchin around. Dude might as well be a Republican for how little he cares about the American people

    1. Manchin keeping republicans slaves so laughing I hope you republicans are slaves 2 dalla hr wage so you can compete with China sweatshops

  3. As much as I like Markie, I’ll believe it when I see it. The owners of America have control.

  4. Just make sure that Manchin get vote out next time we don’t want loose cannon in our Senat Simple as that.

    1. @Mr. James you know what else is deeply red ? Ohio. Trump won it twice with 8 % margin each time. Before that Obama won it twice. Once on Hope and Change, the second time likely they gave him another chance or on personal popularity. Then he fasttracked TPP.

Ohio is ALSO done with with neoliberal Democrats.

Or TN. Gore is a household name, father and son Al. But in 2000 Al Gore their former Senator and VP could not win his home state.

    2. @Mr. James He does not want things FOR his state. Fall 2013 Obama infrastructure bill. Manchin and 2 other Senators posing as Dems killed it (the vote to pass it with a simple majority).

He could have gotten concessions. I guess the donors have better perks. For HIM.

    3. @Xyz Same I’m glad you bought that up. You’ve just proven that it wasn’t long ago that a great deal of the states didn’t even vote red. Maybe you should try to figure out what happened to cause such a shift in these states (just saying). Or maybe, I’m just not understanding what you’re saying.

    4. @Xyz Same It depends on what was in the infrastructure bill. Maybe there was something in there that Joe Manchin did not like (perhaps something to do with fossil fuels such as coal)? As you’ve said, West Virginia deems coal very important to it’s economy (despite it being a dying industry).

    5. @Xyz Same I wouldn’t say that Ohio is deeply red (although it appears to be trending there). I suppose that the 2022 Senate election will be another test of this trend.

  5. If you are working for a
    FAiL iRRESPONSiBLE BUSiNESS
that can’t afford to pay a
    living wage with benefits

They can’t afford to be in business
    paying Americans poverty wages

So they can own a business
    Is entitlement at it’s finest

    They are asking human
    beings to use their lives,
    to subsidize their desire
    to own a business

If a job is worth being done
it’s worth being paid to live

I side with the American workers
    for these reasons

America needs to return back to
paying a living wage with benefits

    Our government and companies
    for the past 30 years
    have been getting richer
    While Americans get screwed

    Our government does everything
in their legislative power to pass
    legislation to screw Americans

    Millions Americans working full time
are still having to rely on food stamps,
    housing, medical, shelter assistance

No full time Americans should be
in need of any of that if they got
paid a living wage with benefits..

  6. I wish they would get rid of the filibuster but they are hogtied by the 2 Republicans in Democrat clothing.

    1. They would not be the problem – Biden only pretends. FDR would already have twisted arms. He did – and also of Democrats.

  7. People of America, in the next Election vote all those millionaires
out of The House and the Senate if
they don’t support a $15 minimum wage. Only one word can describe
    them:HYPOCRITES.

    1. That’s a good start but there are many more words and phrases we could add to your description.

  8. Majority of country supports forward movement on those issues, Senator! GOP doesn’t get that!!!!

    1. @Xyz Same Twist arms how? Threaten to primary a Manchin of a Sinema and you’ll get a Marjorie Taylor Greene type in their place. Not every state is Blue.

    2. @Suomy Nona Exactly. Joe Manchin is just the type of Democrat that can win these states. It’s just like how you couldn’t run a typical Republican in Massachusetts and expect them to win.

  9. I guarantee the slimy corporate Dems will try to bargain the minimum wage down to something like $11/hour. Watch it happen. This is why people are turning toward progressives these days.

  10. He didn’t answer that right. He said appeal the filibuster? Wait Manchin going to hold it up? Whaa?

  11. So, there going to do whatever they can? Does that mean you have to ask permission of your campaign contributors?

  12. Ro Khana: Of course I will vote for the package. …. Ed Markey: Dances around. – That is why sooner or later a smart Fascist will take over after he figured out that economic populism is the way to go. …. The parlamentarian interpreted a RULE. The VP can over rule that. The End. Republicans would already have done that. And fired the parliamentarian. It is also idiotic to say the minimum wage does not affect the budget. Some people say the effect will be negative, others say it will be positive, but no one expects it will NOT affect the budget (more tax revenue. assumptions about unemployment, more costs for Medicare. Others say that less welfare costs).

It is like they WANT to lose the midterms 2022. Manchin will NEVER vote with anything that will be good for The people, he is there to pose as Democrat and side with Republicans whenever Dems could maybe get something done.

  13. We have some good democrats and Ed is one of them.
Manchin and Sinema need to change to the republican party.
Except republicans are Anti LGBTQ and Sinema is L.
But she could sit with Cheney and they could betray all the LGBTQ people together.

  14. I hope I’m wrong but the Democrats don’t have a good history of fighting back against the bully Republicans
