  1. i had the same experience last night in my town.when I said this vendor had his goods in the road I am not exaggerating !it was not on the sidewalk and there was no police to solve the problem. the oncoming traffic was disrupted !I was annoyed !

  2. 1st. Herman is a bit too aggressive with how he greets Sandy.
2nd. Allow her to finish talk before adding points to hers.
3rd. This is an issue that has been plaguing all persons who use these side walks. There are better ways to deal with these problems.

  3. where is the vision… in festive season as now… dedicates a few streets as pedestrians only… for vendors and shoppers…don’t try to direct shoppers to big business…allow the small man to live… as he also pays taxes… let the poor be able to shop from fellow poor…. have a heart

  4. This is a good topic and government need to address these issues. Side walk are for people to walk and because venders take over the sidewalks people get use to walking in the street.

  5. I’m in Canada watching this. My opinion is there’s no management from past and present government, this has been going on for years and have spiralled out of control. This should have been clipped at the start. Now it’s just appalling. Everyone wait until the sore is beyond control before administering medication to heal the sore at the offset

  6. The government needs to need to build a place for vendors it’s a most built a place for vendors so they can come off the side walking

    1. even if the government build a new place for all roadside vendors they are not going to use it. in this country the tail wags the dog

  7. What do you expect? Jamaica is a mess. The female reporter’s statement about safety and crime are on point, but this goes to show that there are no leadership from the mayor’s office all the way down. In any cities or towns you should have a clear, safe space of travel and movement. Side walks are there for the pedestrians, not higglers. This just goes to show the ineptness that the elected officials possessed and should not be allowed go on as a representatives of decent citizens. What if there is a fire, how does the fire service maneuver/position their vehicles without delays when seconds count? In a segment of the clip, there is a clear view of a three-bank overhead pole-mounted transformer. These transformers are are oil-filled, and could present a fire and life-safety hazards. And, even more, who is to say that these oil-filled transformers are non-PCB or PCB fluid? Where is the leadership from the police and the fire service? These are the things the municipal corporation needs to ironed out, but then again, you are in Jamaica. What the hell do these individuals discussed at their municipal meetings? Do they evaluate hazards, risks and consequences before they weigh and make decision? From the looks of things, it doesn’t appeared that way. What a disgrace.

    1. Although it’s inexcusable, the fact is that this is not endemic to Jamaica. Vendors crowding sidewalks happens in every metropolitan area across the world. If there was any simple solution first-world countries would not be suffering just the same.

  8. This is just greedy and taking over pathways, side walks. Vendors are so greedy and have no consideration therein to pedestrians, the disabled, children, elderly, and children who needs to used the side walk daily. Then cars and other vehicles are and will pulled up to conduct transaction with vendors and further blocking the path from citizens and visitors using the side walk

It is not just the sidewalks,

take for instance and example; the beach at hellshire, where these vendors built out to the sea and no where to walk aling the sand. Very horrible and the government and municipalities are not doing anything and implementing charges to restore the beachfront and sand so beach goers can enjoy the beach and decided which vendor’s they want to go to without the hassler and hassling from persons harassing visitors to the beach. Plus these built bricks and rocks are slippery and green with algae and are sharpe to cause bodily harm

Let us see if there will be any changes, for talk and media reporting are just yesterday’s news to garner attention and raised red flags with no effective response thereto and until someone life is taken, then maybe something is and will be done

Look at the educational system, lacking consistency to provide quality and equitable education for its citizens and their children from generation to generations that there has been no changes; but decline.

    D. Crawford spoke to this lackluster about the educational system and for decades and centuries, where are the implications for success and success for the children. Hence song’s like Dunce that will further ignite the mindset of those children who sees themselves as such and not wanting to rise above what is being told they are.

    Just saying

  9. Secondly, this is not the first, second, third and will not be the last. The Wound has been ignored for far too long and now the SORE of the matter is seen without any resolute

As a result the chaos will be and protestors will be; rather abiding by the vendor sidewalk rules and or the government can and needs to enact and implement designated areas that doesn’t infringed on pedestrians, traffic hold ups, and hindrances to the elderly, children and disabled persons who are not shut-in’s but want to enjoying life like any other abled body person

The government and the municipalities that are in charge have no order and seems to be afraid or fearful to uphold policy regulations for folks; nit just the vendors, but others like taxi drivers, et al., are not abiding to the rules, laws, ordinances and statutes implemented and set forth therein to the structure of a society and its citizens to obey and help instilled such to generations after generations

Again, let us see the resolution therein and how the good and not so good citizens seek a better result without any discord and or blame of pointing fingers

  10. It’s reporting like this TVJ needs to do more of , for each sidewalk, there needs to be a ramp on n a ramp off for wheelchairs… Far too long, NWA, KSMC, NEPA has been given a free ride…They always approve a project then 6 months after it was the wrong move, like the park for Portmore , why use 25 acres of land for a park while across the street at Portmore Mall there is a serious transport issue….Why not use 15 acre for the park 10 acre for a transport centre, 5 acre of the 10 u would use now n set aside the other for future transport use… This would be the main transport centre for Portmore taxis buses etc…Ask the Local Government, NWA, Parish Council etc why use the 25 acre for a park alone🤔🤔. …

  11. It started in the 80s , after a very permissive Christmas Market downtown one particular year, the Vendors just stayed put and grew in numbers henceforth.
