Former Trump adviser Steve Bannon was convicted of contempt of Congress after defying a subpoena related to his role in the Capitol insurrection.

Former Trump White House strategist Steve Bannon was sentenced to four months in prison Friday, three months after his conviction on charges of contempt of Congress for defying a subpoena from the special House committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot.
U.S. District Judge Carl Nichols granted a defense request that the flamboyant adviser to former President Donald Trump be allowed to remain free pending appeal. The Justice Department had sought a six-month term for Bannon and recommended he pay a maximum fine of $200,000 for "his sustained, bad-faith."
"From the moment that the Defendant, Stephen K. Bannon, accepted service of a subpoena from the House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol … he has pursued a bad-faith strategy of defiance and contempt," prosecutors said in court documents ahead of Friday's sentencing hearing.
