US to send Patriot missile defense system to Ukraine

The Biden administration is finalizing plans to send the Patriot missile defense system to Ukraine that could be announced as soon as this week, according to two US officials and a senior administration official. The Pentagon’s plan still needs to be approved by Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin before it is sent to President Joe Biden for his signature. The three officials told CNN that approval is expected. #CNN #News

  1. When she describes the Patriot system, she is literally giving the most general overview of what literally every single GTA air defense system does. BTW the latest Patriot systems come with Israeli radar technology. Considering Israel already offered that to Ukraine, I wonder if they will get the upgraded version.

    1. @Soulife

There’s a very limited number of countries that produce missiles of the type ruZZia needs. They are sophisticated and very expensive and manufactured in small quantities. Those who produce them can account for everyone of them. Nearly all are western oriented.

Exceptions would be China, North Korea and Iran. And all can be identified from debris as to there origin. ruZZia already has contacts with them. They don’t need a smuggler. A smuggler would only be of benefit if one of these countries wanted to smuggle missiles out to smaller nations who haven’t the means to produce them theirselves. And then it would be very limited quantities.

You need a reason for the trade. He was at one time a member of the KGB. He has connections in high positions.

    2. @Silverlined_69 , it was “take or leave your friend behind the lines” situation so they took one back, arms dealers exist allready…

    3. @Rodjsy I didn’t want to hear it and intentionally missed it.

I just planted tree in my yard this week, so I’d be more interested in watching it grow for the next decade than listening to a boring commenter with a bland sense of humor.

    4. Israel ever offers anything in fact Israel blocked supply of Spike missiles from Australia and any other country like Germany that used them. As far as Israel “radar tech” is concerned it’s nothing special. If the US weren’t finding Israel’s military and industry those radar jobs would be in the US. Israel takes and never gives. It is not part of the west and never helps. Never by Israeli weapons and never let them into your defence industry. As bad as Chinese firms.

    5. Europeans who firmly believe that if Russia does not stop in Ukraine, it will go on to seize Europe, but at the same time stubbornly denying the fact that if Russia does not stop NATO in Ukraine, then NATO will go further, you are so funny

  2. I was a 14A in a Patriot unit for 3ish years. I really wonder which unit they plan on taking specifically the radars from, we only have so many in the entire Army. The amount of training that will need to go with this is significant too, it will be interesting seeing patriots capabilities versus various modern Russian threats ✌️

    1. @Jesse Lejarzar After 20 years the software has been fixed / upgraded a lot. The software glitches during Desert Storm have been removed

    2. Exactly, US Patriot air defense against much touted Russia Kinzhal/Dagger hypersonic missile…will be interesting to watch.

    3. Citizens of America, pray, a big greeting from Russia will arrive before you soon, only you will be to blame for this, the world is over

  3. This wasn’t a sudden decision. US must have been training hundreds of Ukrainians to operate the Patriot systems for months!

    1. Yes
Germany has them and Poland so they may have trained them.
Maybe even NATO volunteers will help operate them.
Like when North Korean Mig-15s had Russian Pilots.

  4. Interesting, how will a system like the patriot survive in an environment rich with killer drones? Patriot radar signature can be easily triangulated. It’s missile can be backed tracked for counter fire. The old Soviet technology still exist to do all of that. Send your standard volley of missile in an area defended by the patriot and once it reacts gather all your loitering drones to the area and saturate it. No need for hi tech detection gear, with cheap long distance infra-red and regular vision camera equipped shaheed drones Russia can go patriot hunting. It will be able to spot the launches and saturate the area and quickly kill or damage the system. This couldn’t be done in the Iraq war of the 90’s because Iraq did not have the technology and the drones to fight the patriot. But the Russians today is different. It may have lost its initial battle of drones with Ukraine but sit has the capability and it has learned enough now to kill a system like the patriot.

  5. This isn’t going to be a quick fix…. It takes months to train up for this system. That is unless there were already folks training all along and we are just now finding out.

    1. We are just now finding out…. like I think now they are already training the Ukranian pilots on how to use the F 16s and other weapons… and they will let us know about it when them planes are already flying into Ukraine… and I believe many more weapons are being sent there without letting the public know.

    2. @Wadser true, they announce and the next day we see the weapons on the front lines. Many things goes on behind the curtains. No wonder Russia is being pushed back, something I never thought that Ukraine was capable of doing.

    3. @BreeaVlogs I’m cereal. They said I’m the Einstein of my generation and even awarded me the golden pocket protectors award. Cereal

  6. It’s about time. Granted, it’s VERY VERY expensive and takes extensive training. All of which takes away resources available to purchase other weapons and munitions that are running out.
But the need to stop these Russian missles is too important to ignore

    1. @Mr Baab And we are getting a huge benefit for the money. No troops in theater. Ukrainians are dying while our troops are not required. Understand clearly. If Putin is victorious in Ukraine he intends to keep moving west. One a NATO country becomes involved, the cost to America, not only dollars but blood, rises exponentially. The AFU is doing the fighting and dying. Supporting them financially isn’t just the right moral and political thing to do, but the most cost effective by FAR!

    2. @Fish Lives Matter unlikely. More likely the Russian federation falls into chaotic conflict and disintegration, after Putin is either assassinated or imprisoned
If he’s smart, hell run to Venazuala or other safe spot for him while he still has the chance

    3. @Democracy #1 unlikely? Look at Ukraine now, it has already become a wasteland, sooner or later when putin realized civilians are running off or out of Ukraine because of no food and electricity, he will drop hes first tactical nukes, dont be delusional if you think Putin will back down, lol

    4. Ukraine needs all support it can get. World cannot allow this independent country to fall under a lunatic leader like pooptin. God bless Ukraine.

    1. It took way too long to send these. I’m not happy with how it’s always crisis management from my country, the USA. We could have been more proactive and saved lives.

    1. @4T3hM4kr0n! 😏 As long as The Vlad & Co 🇷🇺🧛🏻‍♂ can keep up the superyacht dock payments they’re good 😏

    2. @4T3hM4kr0n! exactly, that’s why Ukraine needs to negotiate an agreement instead of begging for weapons and money.

  7. This will open the way for other nations to send their own modern air defence systems to Ukraine as well; German, Italian/french and Turkish air defence systems.

  8. Unfortunately, it will be of limited usefulness in the current scenario. It’s a large, expensive rocket that’s meant to take down equally large, expensive offensive systems. So it will be good against the missiles that Russia’s long range bombers are launching. But against the small, cheap, low altitude Iranian drones that are doing most of the damage? Not so much. Even assuming that it can detect and intercept them, a swarm of drones will just use up their stock of missiles. Something like Iron Dome would probably be more appropriate.

    1. I seriously doubt they plan on shooting drones with a patriot missile. That’d be like shooting mosquitoes with a shotgun.

    2. @The Magnetic Eye the patriot is going to be targeting the dozens of cruise missiles heading towards UKR every day. At that job, it will probably exceed most expectations. It has also been upgraded to take out ballistic missiles as well, like the “hypersonic” Iskander circa 1980.

    3. Think we might be preparing to ramp up Putlers nightmares with some in-country action. Shooting fish in a barrel on the front lines is not accomplishing much to end this war.

    4. @Shawn Mendenall It won’t be long till they are destroyed. What happens to all does Air defence systems they have been sending to Ukraine..

  9. One thing to remember is that Ukraine puts there best and brightest on these high end systems. They will learn how to use it as fast as it is possible for people to learn this.

    1. @c johnson you really think the f****** training hasn’t already happened? Really you did all that typing and didn’t assume that much God damn some people are stupid

    2. @Csonra Csonra Tell me you know fucking nothing about military operation and procurement without telling me you know fucking nothing about military operation and procurement. Pipe down, child. You’re not fit for this conversation.

    3. @c johnson then why do you insist on having it when I’ve already schooled you, take it easy you’re not supposed to get so angry just because someone is smarter than you. And actually the conversation has long been over but I was just going to lump you in the head one last time before I lay down lol I’ve spoken and you’ve cried and tried to have a conversation while telling me you don’t want me in your conversation which is f****** hilarious but no need to comment back it’s clear who is the one whining 🤣🤣🤣🤣

    1. @militantcapitalist4606  I’m no more of a communist than Russia is! But one thing I have in common with Russians is I hate nazis and Ukraine is full of nazis.

    2. @Skalgar Ha,ha..There are no Nazis whatsoever in Ukraine 🇺🇦.You Crazy Putin Dictator Tyrant. We Ukrainian militaries and its people and the Freedom fighting forces of the world countries going to help Ukraine 🇺🇦 going to fights for its sovereignty nation and as for a independent country. The Ukrainian militaries forces going’s to kicks all you Russian invaders forces asses soon and chasing you all the ways back to Moscow…

  10. The patriot can defend against nearly any type of missile – but they are also extremely expensive.
It won’t make sense to use these against smaller threats like the Iranian kamikaze-drones simply because of economics – ie. the expended missile will probably cost more than the damage a small drone can achieve. This is a problem Israel has faced for a while already against Hamaz… So unfortunately this doesn’t solve all of Ukraine’s bombardment problems so easily. I think that for the same reason we may be moving from an era of cruise missiles to an era of inexpensive drone swarms. If you can fire dozens of inexpensive threats rather than one big one – the sheer numbers may make it infeasible to shoot them all down, even if they are individually much more vulnerable.
But being able to protect the most sensitive installations is for sure a huge boon to Ukraine. Right now, that obviously means the most critical energy infrastructure. Hopefully this can allow them to get back to a minimum level of service for the population soon.

  11. The Ukrainian militaries already knows how to uses those defensive Patriot missiles systems. The Ukrainian militaries just needed a refresher corses, how to uses effectively that all. They have been asking for those surface to air Patriot missiles systems for months..

  12. Finally, Ukraine will able to protect its infrastructures. Hopefully, they will be sended in enough numbers to protect all large cities in Ukraine.

  13. Why are the westerns (journalists like the ones above included) so concerned on what Putin thinks? It is not good and it shows weakness.
