The clash between the Manhattan district attorney who indicted Donald Trump and House Republicans who defend the former president continues Monday when Congress is back in session with a congressional hearing about crime in New York. House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, scheduled the hearing to highlight rising crime in New York during what he called the politically motivated prosecution of Trump. But Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg contends violent crime is actually down in the city.

The hearing is the latest escalation of accusations stemming from the unprecedented 34 felony charges of falsifying business records against Trump. It's just one of many conflicts Congress faces this week as both chambers return from a two-week recess. A lot has happened since lawmakers' last day on Capitol Hill, which was the same day the former president was indicted. He has since been arraigned and charged.

    1. @Roy Black Well I did not.I tried turning my phone up several times,it was already on maximum volume.Everything else I listen to is loud and clear.

    2. @Roy Black theres sound issues.. normally on videos google doesnt approve of.. mainly political videos. like i dont remember a trump rally video that didnt have sound or color issues.

    1. The politicians decide on term limits! Unbelievable huh! Just like them giving themselves raises! Should be up to us!

  1. If Bragg is distracted by Trump case and ignoring crime in the city, the same can be said for Jordan whos little Ohio town of Columbus has a higher murder rate than NYC .

That being said, house oversight has every right to investigate prosecutorial misconduct, especially not to help political allies who are likely targets.

    1. There are multiple DA’s in NY not just brag five to be exact wonder why the attention is on him hmmmmm. Makes you think you don’t it,

    2. Murders in Manhattan, specifically, dropped 15% in 2022 to 78. For historical perspective, that’s the lowest number since 2019, and it is far lower than the number of murders in the late 1980s and early 1990s. For example, there were 503 murders in Manhattan in 1990 — more than six times as many as last year.

  2. 2:03:04. This guy actually read a comment that said “whether the data says it is safer or not, there is a perception in the city that it is not safe.” He raised his voice and said that point louder as if it’s a great point. Well, congratulations—your fear mongering and the fear mongering of your buddies at certain media outlets has worked—people FEAL afraid. I’m not saying the city is violence-free. It never has been at any point. But the idea that violent crime is rising is simply not true, regardless whether this lawmaker can read one comment from someone who may or may not live who-knows-where and the commenter says they FEEL that violent crime has gone up.

  3. The soft on crime thing in New York is because of your DA Alvin Bragg. If he can’t do his job fire him, remove him from his office, release him from his duties for his negligence of his duties.

    1. He’s trying to do his job, that’s why they’re holding this hearing, Republicans say prosecute anyone but our guy!

  4. 3:35:10 to 3:35:24. She says “I know you believe that mass shootings are caused by an inanimate object that is a gun.” She goes on to say, “I noticed that no one is talking about the drugs these people are taking.” It’s funny because she seems to to think that some powder or a pill is somehow not an inanimate object but a gun is. A person needs to take the powder or the pill for it to have an effect just like a person needs to pick up a gun in order for it to have an effect. She is unraveling her own argument. Just because something is an inanimate object does not mean that access to it should be unrestricted. Again, she just unraveled her own argument.

  5. I’ve lived in NYC my entire life and I haven’t felt as unsafe as I do now , I don’t even like taking public transportation anymore cause I have to looking over my shoulder incase something happens

    1. Then don’t look at statistics, you’ll find you’re safer today than you were in 1993.

And just to poke the ohio bear, Columbus violent crime rate is 3x higher than NYC.

    2. You are not alone. It’s become unsafe in nearly every State and City.

FACTS about Jim Jordan’s district. Thanks to the last gerrymandered map in Ohio, Mansfield (pop. 43,000) was added to Jordan’s district. Larger than all of the others in his new district. Mansfield is called ” DANGER CITY” for a valid reason. Chance of becoming a victim of Crime is 1 in 235.
Jordan has Never done a singular thing for his district, or the people of OH. OH has had its fair share of mass shootings. Does Jordan care? Absolutely Not!

The NY committee hearing was another political stunt headed by Jordan. Another waste of Taxpayer Dollars!! Jordan is seeking Trump backing and the Trump base $$$$ because he’s planning to run for Senate in 2024.

He’s not getting my vote! Anyone who would try and overturn a legitimate Election is too far gone mentally, and morally to serve in any capacity. I don’t vote based on any party’s guidelines. And I don’t believe in “Party Over Country”.

This country is weighed down by elected officials drawing big Salaries and Benefits. And backing radical gun laws because the NRA is a very large political Donor. The so called “Pro-Life” party has become the party of “No-Life” matters as long as the dollars and power keep flowing their way.

Another FACT: Democrats and others have tried to get tougher Gun Laws in OH to no avail because OH is a run by Republicans who have turned it into a Red Purgatory!

    1. Do you even know what they are suppose to be held accountable for.

What jurisdiction does a representative from ohio have in Manhattan? If he was really focusedon crime he should be focused on Columbus, which has a murder rate 3x higher than NYC.

    2. @macdub42 because they prosecute the crimes in ohio….nyc doesn’t therefore the numbers are lower….do you have any idea what it’s like in nyc, I’m a native it’s a mess

    1. @Carrie Franklin please, the crime was committed while he was a citizen . I heard the so called billionaire is needing help to pay lawar cost you helping .

  6. Two things can be true at the same time. NYC can do a better job addressing street crimes and at the same time hold white collar criminals accountable.

  7. Democrats know how to flip the script
What they are in vounsil about is Repeat Offenders being let go .Soft on crime makes more crime

  8. While you at it, eliminate the tunnel vision (Lincoln, Holland and Battery) and do likewise for Chicago, Jackson MS, Memphis and Atlanta for starters!!!

  10. Alvin Bragg was elected as NY DA until Nov. 2, 2021. How does the second Victim Witness rationalize stating Bragg’s 1st yr in office (meaning as DA) started in 2001?
