Watch Live: Speaker Pelosi expected to arrive in Taiwan | USA TODAY

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will arrive in Taiwan today, according to news media reports, defying threats of Chinese retaliation to make the highest-level U.S. visit in 25 years.

CNN and The Wall Street Journal reported that Pelosi will go ahead with the controversial trip. Pelosi's office declined to comment on the reports Monday.

China views Taiwan as part of its territory, though Taiwan sees itself as a sovereign country. The United States has long embraced a murky middle ground that seeks to support Taiwan without infuriating Beijing.

President Joe Biden said the United States would come to Taiwan’s defense militarily if China invaded to take over the self-ruled island.

China warned of unspecified "consequences" for visiting Taiwan as tensions escalate between Beijing and Washington.

    1. There may be some in this world that think they are in charge of things then there are those that show who is really in charge of things.

  4. Middle of he night!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’m glad she went but to arrive in the middle of the night is a win for China. Even an inch of deviation due to their rhetoric is a win for China.

  5. I hope Pelosi is at least sober. Embarrassing to watch her slur her words. I believe her husband has court appearance for DUI tomorrow.
I feel sad for this alcoholic couple. They both need rehab help.

  6. Urgent: In a precedent, the first of its kind, the veteran American policy that managed to break the blockade of Taiwan, Nancy Peulsi, announces that it supports democracy in Taiwan, in reference to “Taiwan independence.” So far, the Chinese Foreign Ministry refused to comment, but it was rejecting any separatist ideas.
