Watch: Officials provide update on July 4th parade shooting

The man accused of killing six people and wounding dozens more at a Fourth of July parade planned the rooftop rampage for weeks and donned women's clothes to help ease his escape into the crowd, police said Tuesday.

Lake County Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli said Robert E. Crimo III, 21, acted alone and fired more than 70 shots. Crimo then abandoned the assault rifle, climbed down from the roof and walked to his mother's home, Covelli said.

Hours later a neighbor saw Crimo driving a silver Honda Fit and called 911, Covelli said. Crimo was arrested without incident a short time later. A second rifle was found in his vehicle.

"We do believe Crimo preplanned the attack for several weeks," Covelli said.

  1. Of course anti gun restriction people are gonna blame it on video games instead of facing the facts

  2. I don’t understand if this was posted on social media, why wouldn’t anyone that saw it, report it? Obviously a troubled person that would need help.

  3. I wish the Mayor spoke to the community from her heart instead of the notes, also a greeting would’ve been nice, just something to be aware of when public speaking to the world stage at a time like this. Nevertheless , my deepest regards to the Mayor and her community.

  4. 220 people died and 570 were injured by people with guns but our focus is here. This started on Friday and ended on the 4th. 2022 We have serious mental health and impulse issues as a nation. Buy a gun and protect your families.

  5. I wrote about this yesterday on the 3rd of July the greatest cry is a double barrel troubled youth

  6. It is impossible not to imagine trying to stop this before it happened follow the lead of the Hebrews and what they do

  7. I have been licensed and carry most of the time. I did have training for safety reasons. And go out to the shooting range once a month on average. In these type of situations an armed citizen may have had a chance to end the attack. Gun control is like drug control. You can get drugs whenever you want. Same as it will be with guns. Never carried and never owned a hand gun until two years ago. I realized in the city it’s not safe for my family or for myself. Thats just the way it is now.

  8. Wow!! Hey, does anyone want to buy a high-capacity magazine? EVERYBODY should buy high-capacity magazines. See how damn well a high-capacity magazine works in real life… and death. Only a peace-loving country that really, really cares about the safety of every citizen would DEMAND the RIGHT to sell high-capacity magazines to all citizens. See how much better a high-capacity magazine works than a puny small-capacity magazine. Real men would never own a puny small-capacity magazine. A REAL MAN would DEMAND only high-capacity magazines. Every citizen must run out right now and buy at least one high-capacity magazine. Do this even if you do not own a rifle. A REAL MAN who REALLY needs to protect his god-given RIGHTS and FREEDOMS will buy two high-capacity magazines before midnight today.

  9. The shooter was dressed in women’s clothing. Hmm… For all those in favor of drag queen story time. There you go.

  10. they took his knives, so he bought guns. it’s case by case… great job 👏🏻 what do our protectors propose to protect us, take away our freedom?

    family and friends? unknown motives?

    love,
    david

reporter: you take away his knives, so he buys guns?!
police spokesman: i don’t follow your question. (unspoken: look, obviously, we want new laws to protect us, not you.)

  11. Who even feels sorry for America anymore? They don’t want to change the gun laws, this is what they get.
