Dominica to host workshop on compliance of export subsidies with WTO requirements

Roseau, Dominica – September 25, 2009……. A workshop on the use of export subsidies in international trade and their compliance with World Trade Organisation (WTO) requirements will take place in Dominica from September 28 – October 1, 2009.

The workshop is being organised by the Ministry of Trade, Industry, Consumer and Diaspora Affairs in collaboration with officials from the World Trade Organisation and the CARICOM Secretariat.

Activities to mark Dominica’s 31st Anniversary of Independence set for Saturday, September 26th

Roseau, Dominica – September 24, 2009……… Activities marking Dominica’s thirty-first Anniversary of Independence open this Saturday, September 26, 2009 with an official opening ceremony at the Old Mill Cultural Centre, beginning at 5.30pm.

The theme for this year’s Independence Celebrations is: “Celebrating Progress and Development”.

And in a break with established practice, the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving will take place very early in the programme of activities – on Saturday, September 26, 2009 and Sunday, September 27th 2009.

Hundreds of villagers converge to celebrate commissioning of Fond St. Jean Sea Wall

Roseau, Dominica – September 24, 2009……… Hundreds of persons from Fond St. Jean and the neighbouring communities of Bagatelle, Petite Savanne, and beyond converged in the small community of Fond St. Jean on Friday afternoon for the commissioning of the $2.34 million Fond St. Jean Sea Defence Wall and Roadworks project.

Waitukubuli National Trail public awareness programme reaches Guadeloupe

Roseau, Dominica – September 22, 2009…….The Waitukubuli National Trail (WNT) Project Management Unit takes its public awareness programme to another level in its continuing efforts to market the WNT in the region and beyond.

The Project Management Unit (PMU) joined by the Regional Council of Martinique will participate in two radio programmes in Guadeloupe during the weekend 26th – 27th September, 2009. One of the programmes is a popular Creole programme “Melting Pot” on Kilti FM and another programme called “Total Connection” will be aired on Gayak FM.

At a Town Hall Meeting of the Cabinet in Roseau on Wednesday evening, Minister for Economic Development and Urban Renewal, Hon. Julius Timothy, outlined the various aspects of Government’s vision to transform Dominica’s capital city, Roseau and make life easier for the city’s residents.

Government committed to construction of hotel rooms in Dominica, says Prime Minister Skerrit

Roseau, Dominica – September 7, 2009……… Dominica’s Prime Minister, Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit says his Government is committed to the construction of additional hotel rooms in Dominica.

The Prime Minister made the announcement at the first in a new round of Town Hall Meetings in the village of Marigot recently.

The Prime Minister, who is also the Minister for Finance, said the soft loan of US$5.1 million received by Government from the International Monetary Fund under its Exogenous Shocks Facility will go towards the construction of hotel rooms in Dominica.
