McConnell just sent Trump a very clear message in Alaska

In today’s episode of The Point, CNN’s Chris Cillizza breaks down how Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell isn't backing down from his standoff with former President Donald Trump in Alaska's Senate race.

An incredibly damning quote from Mitch McConnell on January 6:
(CNN) – Mitch McConnell knew that what happened on January 6, 2021, was deeply wrong. And that blame for the riot that day lay at the feet of then-President Donald Trump.

We now have definitive proof of that fact, thanks to a new excerpt published Thursday from the forthcoming book "This Will Not Pass" by New York Times reporters Alex Burns and Jonathan Martin.

"The Democrats are going to take care of the son of a bitch for us," McConnell told two associates just days after the insurrection, referring to the effort to impeach Trump in the Democratic-led House, according to the Times' reporters.

And of Trump's guilt, McConnell was equally clear-eyed: "If this isn't impeachable, I don't know what is," he said. There was even talk that McConnell himself might vote to convict Trump in a Senate impeachment trial.

    1. Duhhh, Trump Trump Trump Trump Trump! I can’t stop talking about Trump. Even though we have an incompetent President who created multiple crises, is mentally unstable, and does nothing to stop our rising cost of living, I can’t stop talking about Trump. Trump Trump Trump.

CNN, why don’t you just stop it with the fake news and report on what matters? There is a crisis at the border that is having a bad affect on the country. It’s gonna get so much worse!

    2. @gaijin1979 People are starting to see these people really aren’t journalist. Sadly Jake Tapper when in Ukraine reported on Trump. I mean how sad is that!

THEY NEED A WHOLE NEW CREW…THEY SHOULD ALL BE CANNED!

    3. @Seymour Butts He is no more a politician than is required to keep himself out of prison and his appearance of wealth intact.

    1. @Deborah Freedman
And then he proceeded to walk it back and not impeach him. So, he lets trump continue to undermine the very institutions that hold the country together.

    2. …..Everybody is paying
      attention to Ron Klain’s e-mails…👈😁…

      …Sorry….👈😘

    3. Balls said the queen – if I had them I would be king!
Does Moscow Mitch have them ?
      Inquiring minds want to know.

  1. he did that to gov kemp as retribution and vengeance not because hes willing to help others. making someone fail is not the same as making the opposition succeed.

    1. @Travel Crawl Hell, I’m still waiting for that healthcare plan he said was ready and will be presented in 2 weeks, that was in the summer of 2021

    2. @Jerry Eberts seriously? Have you seen the things Trump says about everyone from a disabled reporter to women he finds unattractive?

  2. She’s a failed senator???Guess it takes one to know one and that point is knowing how to fail.

  3. If Trump goes to Alaska, it will be during New Jersey heat wave when it is too hot to golf. He’ll go to Alaska, play a round, have his usual whine and snivel rally, play another round, and go back to Jersey. That is some shmuck will lend him a plane to make the trip.

    1. We don’t have but two or three golf courses up here 😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣. Im sure they are not world class either 🦀🦀🦀

    1. Nope, there’s a reason “Thank god for Mississippi” is an often used sentence in the South.

    2. it ranks really high on the list of states getting more money versus giving money from the federal goverment

  4. Maybe I’m missing something, but why is the by-line date on the The New York Times article “Mar-a-Lago Machine: Trump as a Modern-Day Party Boss” set at August 17, 2022 (timestamp 3:46)? It’s only April 2022. Looks like it should have been April 17, 2022. I wish proof-reading would come back into fashion.

    1. Ah yes, his 100+ million dollar war chest. Investing in the Alaska election would barely cause a dent in his funds.

  5. McConnell: “Please, we just want to make poor people’s lives miserable and collect fossil fuel industry lobbying money…”

    1. Poor people get hurt by $7 a gallon gas.
Not by Mitch or Trump, dummy.
I know that your feelings are hurt, but the adults need to do business.

  6. When you give $7 million to a candidate for Senate and you are the Boss of the Senate, what do you expect in return?

    1. ” i need a favor though ” 🔔💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰

    2. Mitch expects you to vote for him as majority leader. If Trump is elected president in 24, it doesn’t matter how much money Mitch spinds for his senators, he’s not becoming majority leader. I wonder if he will realize that and hold back the bucks. Probably not, he’s vain enough to think he’ll win.

  7. Being of Ukrainian descent I took interest in the Maidan protests and in the immediate aftermath there was incredible violence against Russian speaking people that protested against the overthrow of their democratically elected government. This lead to the violence in the east. One of the first attacks was on Lugansk by a Ukrainian SU-25 that fired a salvo of missiles into the central park killing many civilians. I remember a young mother in a “Pairis designer tee shirt clutching her baby, both dead on the grass on that clear day. It turned me against the Ukrainian government and all it stands for. During the government operation and after the lines stabilised, the nazi groups massacred Russian speakers in Mariupol and other cities. The West ignores this brutal history that isn’t even a deacade old. Thanks for your important reporting.

  8. Honestly can he say she’s a failed candidate? I mean after all she is still in office and he is……..wait where is he again? LMAO

  9. He’s got to be that way. I’m not belittling him or talking about him I’m just being honest and truthful about him.

  10. “they are not after me, they are after you, I am just getting in the way”.
“We are trying to stop the human civilization from destroying itself”. Pres. DJT
