Roseau, Dominica – November 21, 2008…….. Senator Sonia Williams was yesterday sworn in as the new Minister for Education, Human Resource Development, Sports and Youth Affairs. On Tuesday, November 18, 2008, Prime Minister, Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit announced changes to his Cabinet and promised further changes in the new year.

GOVERNMENT EMBARKS ON MAJOR TOURISM SECTOR DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME

Overall objective of EU-funded programme  is to improve the competitiveness of the Tourism Sector

 

Roseau, Dominica – November 19, 2008…….. The Government of Dominica has embarked on a programme that is designed to improve the competitiveness of the tourism sector, a sector that contributed over EC$160 million into the Dominican economy last year and created more than 2,500 direct jobs.

 

The Tourism Sector Development Programme (TSDP) is a two year programme which is being financed under the European Union’s Special Framework of Assistance (SFA) 2006 to the tune of 2.7 million Euros($10.2 million ECD).

MINISTER FOR NATIONAL SECURITY HON. RAYBURN BLACKMOORE ANNOUNCES FIREARMS AMNESTY IN DOMINICA

Roseau, Dominica – November 18, 2008…….. Minister for National Security, Hon. Rayburn Blackmoore has reiterated the commitment of the Government to ” jam the brakes on those persons who keep and use illegal firearms.

 

The Minister said that while Dominica is regarded as the most peaceful place in the entire region, he acknowledged that there exists “within our society a small minority of deviant and malicious persons who seem committed on perpetrating acts of criminality”.

In his Address to the Nation at the Parade of Uniformed Groups on November 3rd 2008, the Prime Minister said that at the national level, “the new thrust must be based on maintaining platforms of energy, agriculture, tourism and enhanced citizenship“.

Raymond Lawrence and Dubique Cultural Group awarded the EO Leblanc Trophy for 2008
