  1. Let’s give Trickle up Economics a try this time. Give it to average Americans and let them decide which corporations are good enough to survive.

    1. @H Soko BIT NO BORDERS ALL FREE WELL WHO HAS THIER LOFE ON THE LINE NOW. UNOTED STATES CITIZENS DOCTORS NATIONAL GUARD POLITICIAN ALL CITIZEN WHICH STATES BEGGING MOST HELP SANCTUARY CITIES. MOST DEATHS WILL BE OUTSIDE USA

    2. @H Soko OBAMACARE AND THUMBSDOWN MCAIN STEELE DOSSIER KILLED ALL HEALTH CARE PLAN YOU HAVE TH O SIGN OT BEFORE YOU READ IT PELOSI . YOU CAN KEEP YOUR DOCTOR OBAMA NEVER LOOKED BACK OR FIXED AND IF BERNIE HAS A PLAN HE WILL TAKE IT TO HIS GRAVE BEFORE SHARING

    3. @unworthy42 What do you think happens when a corporation goes under?

People lose jobs. That’s pretty obvious for reasonable people to understand. I don’t understand why it’s so difficult for you lot to grasp. I’ve given up on you all.

    4. @A A Yeah…So, we should bail out every corporation to save jobs? Cruise Lines are huge corporations. Should we give them a few billion? What is the likely hood anyone will want to go on a cruise after this? If, people are given the money. They will decide where to spend it. If, a corporation is offering a desired service it will survive. Otherwise, it will not. That’s capitalism.

People lose jobs everyday. They find new ones. I had many jobs until I retired…some of the companies went bankrupt. Others, became obsolete. Some, still exist. It is the way of things. I get what you are saying…I just think it is stupid.

    5. @unworthy42 You’re hearing/reading what you want to hear/see.

This isn’t a bailout. A bailout is saving a corporation from something that is the corp’s fault and is done so because of a mutual interest/reliance.

For example, bailing out an airline after they lose billions to a lawsuit. The government (and country, in general) rely heavily on international (and local) air travel.

This is a STIMULUS bill — with the purpose of stimulating the economy to prevent any long-term, drastic changes to it.

That means that corporations, for example — who are currently paying employees while they’re at home, not working — are going to receive relief from the government so they can afford to pay those employees and expenses while business is slow/dead.

If relief is not given to corporations, they will be forced to do MASS layoffs (think tens of thousands, if not hundreds) in order to keep the company from going under.

“Let the company go under” I hear you moaning.

Let’s say we let that happen. Not only do you have a severe spike in unemployment — most of which will have a difficult time finding new work because of workplace oversaturation during the inevitable outcome of this crisis — but you’ll also lose the product/experience that company had offered.

We’re not talking about cruise ships. We’re talking about businesses that people have taken for granted; businesses that have tons of employees over the U.S. and abroad. It’s bad enough that small businesses are being hit by this when they’re already barely afloat much of the time, but if this reaches many corporations, what kind of fallout do you think there would be? Realistically?

Pull your head out of the sand for a moment and think about how a capitalistic economy works. It’s not rocket science.

The whole “trickle-up” approach doesn’t work either. I shouldn’t have to explain why, but I will.

We’ll use the man with a fish analogy. Most people have heard that at some time or another.

Give a man a fish, he’ll eat for a day. Teach a man to fish, he’ll eat every day.

The fish is the payout. The man is the consumer. The fishing skill is a job.

Money isn’t infinite. It doesn’t grow on trees. You have to have a system that works realistically, and it has to leave room for motivated, driven individuals to become entrepreneurs. Otherwise, this country would have nothing to offer.

Imagine if wealth were distributed evenly. That means you could work 10x harder than Joe Shmoe — who’s notorious for doing the bare minimum and getting paid exactly the same — and you would never come out ahead.

Say you did come out ahead. You’ve been recognized and your grind is finally paying off. Now you’re making 30x as much as you used to.

Uh oh, wealth redistribution kicked in. Now you can’t afford to fund your most ambitious project because Uncle Sam took 40% of your income to redistribute to those who made bad life choices and/or who are too lazy to put effort into anything.

What kind of future do you want, exactly? Are you the type to want your butt wiped by someone else? Sitting at your computer, vaping and watching phub/Netflix all day?

      That’s not what I want.

  2. Democrats need to stand their ground. The rich already have everything. Stick up for American workers.

    1. @KOK0100 When Fox News gets their hands on all thats included in the bill that has nothing to do with the virus, they’re going to have a field day. The Dems made a big mistake by not keeping focus on the task at hand. Now their opponents can color them as “political opportunists” and there isn’t much of a response they can give.

    2. I’ve searched today’s PBS News Hour and cannot find any of your claims about the Democrats being concerned with solar panels, etc., than providing relief to the middle class, the working class and the poor.

    3. @Rain Walker Why don’t you read the bill itself then? @rachelbovard on twitter is going through it and highlighting the opportunism.

    1. Yeah, but Elizabeth Warren had the chance to endorse it, and FAILED. The real leader here is Bernie Sanders. He saw this coming from 10 miles away.

    2. @CosmicDamian . Bernie Sanders saw a global pandemic coming from ten miles away? Wow. Can you give us some proof?

    3. @Anne Marie Medicare for All is basically what we’re going to get, after all the smoke clears. It’s the only rational way to deal with health crises like this. And Warren waffled on it. Bernie never wavered.

    4. @CosmicDamian . Okay, sounds good. Bernie couldn’t get that past the moderates to get the nomination, but if it comes in the back door, that’s cool.

  3. I’m actually dumbfounded to hear someone actually answer questions and not dodge them. Kudos to Senator Warren.

    1. @Dave S She could have endorsed Bernie, but she decided that she was going to remain butthurt over her misunderstanding of what he meant when he said a woman wasn’t going to win the presidency this time. Then she decided she was going to be offended when he defended himself against her accusations towards him of making a misogynistic statement, saying that he “made her seem like a liar on national TV”. So, you tell me still doesn’t seem like it to you?

You’re going to tell me that Warren was the only one fighting corruption when Sanders has been around since the 70s? Warren only showed up a decade ago.

  4. What has the gop done for the American people. We always end up holding the bag. Now we are dying

    1. Sharon Rose Right! Yes, and this scum sucking no good Senator is BSing the public for her own gain

    1. @willie kang SHES SO PROUND WE ARE DIEING AND NOT GETING OUR MONEY.. PHLIS PATTERSON IS SO FUKEN BRAIN DEAD like most liberals dumacraps

    1. A A
I have issues😆🤣…. you’re the one in Alcoholics Anonymous!

    2. @100% Real Woman 4 The Throw the Bum Out Party! I guess I fail to see the joke you seemed to have just made, because not only is it not funny, it also doesn’t make any sense as a response; considering I’ve displayed nothing resembling a drinking issue and you’ve only proven my point of possessing mental ones.

      Once again…

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=2&v=NzPxPkR73zk&feature=emb_logo

Watch the session yourself. Don’t be ignorant.

EDIT: Nevermind, I see you related your joke to the initials I have on this account. Bit of a silly and childish relation, but I can’t say I’m too surprised by it. It’s fitting for your character.

    3. @Andy H Thank you A H! You got your wish for everyone. Thru you, The Congressional Blue Wave, Nancy Pelosi, Elizabeth Warren, Chuck Schumer, a group of Republicans,
and others, for your request to forgive
mortgages, while we are going thru this crisis. Good looking out, 😄Andy!

    4. @Kelly Green lol, if only It wasnt just deferred. 🤣👍 Maybe negative interest rates? Get paid to borrow ha.

  5. Hasty, panicky, and poorly-drafted law that can be exploited by the GOP donor class is what Trump’s flunkeys want. Stick to your guns Democrats! Legislate wisely. Do it right.

    1. do it right would be to cut the bill down to just the UBI portion. and pass that first. both sides are at fault here. Theres no time for politics. people are suffering. Hotels has laid off all cleaning and kitchen staff. Restuarants closed…. If they stick to their guns any longer, there won’t be a country left…. Get the payments out….

    2. enjay py yes, and just ignore all the negative comments by persons who haven’t reviewed the issues at hand. Here here… the Is have it

    1. @cogamers84 No, the rich have more deductibles and they are a smaller group, so the larger percentage of the tax is paid by the middle class.

    2. @robert hicks But that’s different. They may pay a larger percentage of their income but the rich pay more tax

    3. @Larry Davisson Maybe we should be listening to the democrats who want to give the money to people running wind farms instead.

    4. There was a Hollywood couple that complained that they only got 230000 more in refund than their taxes. That’s more than many people pay in taxes and certainly more than they get in refunds.

The reason New York pays more in taxes than other places is they could offset their taxes paid to the government. IF the taxes they paid to New York City was greater than what they owed to the US government, they got a refund without paying a tax. When Trump limited that deduction to 10000 dollars, a lot of rich people moved out of New York and the Mayor complained Trump was ruining New York City. Rich people like living in New York City before, because between the taxes they effectively paid no money to anyone and the US government was paying for much of New York Cities expenses.

Sorry, but no, the rich do not pay more than the rest. There arent that many of them and they take more deductions than most people make.

  6. Just remember, both sides thought keeping THEIR gyms open were a good idea.
These are the pos in Washington.

    1. You need to understand that the rules never apply to the elites… It is just like the laws of the land; they are above them too…

  7. Yes, freeze rents and mortgages for 2 months…. having a home, makes it easier to stay there!

    1. Poor Donny diapers hotels are tanking. Good!! No bailout money should go to any big businesses. Let them take out business loans to support themselves. Give the American people the bailout.

    2. @Jelly Belly So you want to lay millions of people off and have them sit at home on welfare for the next tow years. What stupid idea.

    3. Right now try getting all of the Homeless living in tents on city sidewalks to sequester at home and not spread the Covid19 virus.
Pay no attention to the people living in tents. That is what they do in LA California – Good luck with that now.

    1. Robert Downes – The people who are writing and voting on these bills.
Most of them are millionaires- they’re not financially affected by the current situation. They don’t care about $$ – they only care about power and control.

    2. @Deborah Fox Power and control are important to them as the means to make and keep outrageous sums of money. When you get right down to it, both parties and the media suits are destroying Bernie because multi-millionaires and billionaires don’t want 1) regulation, and 2) paying any taxes. And there’s no getting around the fact that Bernie isn’t telling the public why, despite his enormous popularity, he’s losing.

  8. poor and Middle class strike until we get bail out, not rich folks who don’t care about America or Americans at all. Rip George carlin

    1. A lot of us are kind of being forced to “strike” right now, which is the reason this bill is needed in the first place. If your employer goes under, so does your job.

    1. @David Kriner ya know, he has done more for fighting the virus than ANY Demonrat…they wanted this Emergency Bill to be more than 1400 pages in length so they could add federal funding for Abortions, a Carbon Netural addon for airlines…just to much BS that they know the Senate will not pass.

    2. @Jeral Youmans Done what??? Lied, denied, blamed the previous administration. Where are the masks? Where are the respirators??? Where is the National Guard?? He says we are all in this together, yet tells the Governor’s to find supplies on their own. All the ANTICHRIST cares about is the stock market and Maralago. And if you don’t have millions of dollars,he doesn’t care about you either. Wake up Jeral. He wants your vote. That’s all. And after that, you won’t be useful to him.
A game show host that bankrupted at least 5 businesses, is a poor choice.

    3. @Jeral Youmans Not an accurate statement about abortion funding…the bill actually calls to further defund Planned Parenthood. Regardless of your thoughts on women’s healthcare and reproductive rights…This is not the time for that argument. It has NO PLACE in this bill.

    1. Students Loans Debt. Should not be in this Bill. It does nothing for the people. She.needs to go home.

    1. @Robert Madden Thats because Bernie is about actually taxing them more not just undoing Trumps tax cut.. Come on Man as demented Biden would say.. Oh and they don’t cover Bernie is a positive way its against there hacky ways..

    2. Smoke & mirrors. About 79% of those people will see their tax cut get smaller every year until it evaporates like a fart in the wind. While the 1% will continue to enjoy those breaks forever. The cuts do not sundown for the richest of the rich. And btw…still waiting for them to close all those loopholes, so that maybe the uber rich might actually pay some taxes. Maybe pitch in a few bucks.
And what about the 20% of, largely middle-class people, whose taxes actually went up…that doesn’t sundown either…we get to prop up that 1% for-freaking-ever!
I guess somebody has to pay for rich mans welfare.

    3. @demoskunk That’s because they have more money the bottom 99% combined.. You have been brainwashed.. The top 1% now pay a lower tax rate percentage wise than the medium income of the USA.. You are being ripped off..

  9. Here in Aotearoa New Zealand the Govt have passed a bill already !! You will recieve 80% of your wages if your Company employees 100 or less people a 6 Month freeze on Mortgages and a 6 Month freeze on Rents Banks have agreed !!! to protect our Economy with our Government. He aha te mea nui o te ao, he tangata he tangata he tangata. The meaning roughly translates as What is the most important thing in the world, it is the people, the people, the people.

  10. What an AMAZING WOMAN ! Wonderful bright intelligent mind! Wow! Treasury sure needs someone of her caliber.
