Documents Show HHS Adviser Advocating For More Covid Infections In Trump Herd Immunity Bid

Rachel Maddow shares highlights from documents obtained by a House committee led by Rep. James Clyburn investigating political interference in the CDC's coronavirus response that show HHS science adviser Paul Alexander advocating for more widespread coronavirus infections in pursuit of a herd immunity that seemed to form the basis of the Trump administration's inaction on preventing the spread of the virus. 1. So, explain this to me … why has this Paul Alexander not been summoned by Congress to come and testify under oath??? To be followed, of course, by his bosses.

    1. @Steve _M
Wow, what a stupid comment. Explain herd immunity to smallpox to me…how about the common cold, how about the reason you have to get a flu shot every season? Vaccines have no tendency to attempt anything. They mutate to evade immune responses if anything, as is the only way viruses could evolve to exist at all. Our bodies are what attempt immunity, and herd immunity is a concept wherein those that cannot be vaccinated are safer because a large enough part of the population is not transmitting due to their immunity. Neither of those have anything to do with action being taken by the virus itself.
Don’t talk about the education system failing when your arguments are against what the entire rest of the first world has gone by. No one has been hit as hard as us because of our bs anti science, anti personal responsibility rhetoric. Here we are in the US with the absolute worst statistics regarding the pandemic, and your brand of stupid is what got us here.
Every one else has had much more severe lockdowns, but instead of protecting their corporate donors interests, they protected their economy’s workforce and listened to their doctors and experts. You fuckwits listened to Trump and no one else.

  2. people have the right to know the objective truth, the authorities must guarantee this.

    1. That makes no sense. You mean to say “subjective” truth, as in facts. “Objective” suggests there is room for differences of opinion.

    1. @Brando Beezy
On February 21, 1975 Nixon’s Attorney General, John N. Mitchell, was found guilty of:
      – CONSPIRACY,
      – OBSTRUCTION OF JUSTICE,
      – PERJURY.
He was sentenced to two and a half to eight years in prison for his role in the Watergate break-in and cover-up. He was also disbarred from the practice of law for life.

After Watergate 48 Republicans also went to prison.

    2. @stinkystewhead
Yeah I don’t talk to stinky trolls who have to change Trump’s diaper for him.

      Guilty as charged !

    3. @d2.r76.421 funny how did the whole Russian collusion investigation get started again?
Which was a investigation into the Trump campaign colluding with Russia to effect the 2016 election…they found Russia did interfere, but Trump nor his administration colluded with them to do it…
Look at the charges that some were gound guilty of…mostly procedural issues and financial, not colluding. with Russia
Oh yeah, that Steele dossier that was known to be discreditted by the FBI and numerous other intelkigence agency not just in this country but England too, do to the source of it, but who still used it to get FISA warrants?
Clinton supporters within our own intelligence community and who kept pushing the false narrative to the public even some swore under oath that thefe was nothing there in the first place?
      Democrats and their media minions.
All to try an make Trump look bad and distract from Hillary’s issues.

    4. @Marx Andrzejewski There was no ‘Russia collusion investigation’. Read the special order, it had nothing to do with ‘finding collusion’. It was about finding Russians who were trying to infiltrate Trump’s campaign. He’s supposed to be helping them, not attacking them. That investigation was a successful investigation that did what it set out to do as can be read in the special order.

    1. @First Name Last Name Yeah, misleading to say the least “he’s not even FULL time” – maybe because he works in industry. God forbid.

    2. @First Name Last Name Yet Tucker Carlson is making big fat bitchy waves because Jill Biden has a doctorate.

    3. Tom Van Your reply makes zero sense. You don’t refer to anything, and presume I can just read you mind.

Was you trouble in understanding what an adjunct professor is?

  3. The US is one big nightmare- I taught school in the US for many years- seeing and fighting against a corrupt, defective educational system. I, obviously, no longer teach- as many of my worthwhile peers no longer teach- and it shows. What a sad state of affairs all of the way around. This administration only made it very clear to the rest of the world- and worse.

    1. schools/science still teach the sun is a giant fireball heated by nuclear fusion, that light travels at a set speed, that CO2 warms our atmosphere, that an electron particle is real and that flashlights emit photons…they just want us dumb and/or dead.

    1. @Richard Barrow. Putin has his feet up reading verbatim transcription of US Classified documents & the Trump is riffing on Water Pressure and Shower Heads, smh.

  4. I wish I could say that I’m surprised or shocked by this, but no. This is business as usual for the Trump administration. Thank whatever god you like that he got voted out!

  5. this is exactly why the people don’t trust our own government, even the president doesn’t trust them. too many secrets. anything hidden always come out to light.

  6. No wonder they firing doctors. Firing healthcare officials and Data Analysts who got data more cases than what’s reported. πŸ€”

  7. Here is my 5c on their strategy… they deliberately wanted to f..& it up as much as possible for the next administration….they knew they would lose the election

    1. @mike s. no… it actually was what they shouldve done. tell people with pre existing conditions and elderly to stay home and away from everyone else… keep everything open and let herd immunity work among the young. 99.9% recovery rate among young. businesses wouldve all been able to stay open, herd immunity wouldve taken effect, elderly would be able to be back to normal by now bc their chances of coming into contact with someone infected woul be far less likely bc MOST WOULDVE ALREADY HAD IT AND NOW WOULD BE IMMUNE.
