Always wanted to visit Pingalwara, says Dominica PMThe Prime Minister (PM) of Commonwealth of Dominica, Roosevelt Skerrit, visited the home for destitute and disabled, run by Pingalwara Charitable Society, at Manawala. Skerrit was accompanied by a delegation of eight officials. During his visit, the PM interacted with inmates and students of the school.

He was welcomed by special inmates of the school for disabled. Skerrit was moved by the dedication with which the rehabilitation and education programmes were being run by Pingalwara Society. He also donated Rs 15 lakh to the institution and expressed his desire for continued support and assistance to the school.

“I have heard about the amazing work Pingalwara has been doing from an acquaintance back home. I always wanted to visit and see it for myself. I have to say that I was overwhelmed,” Skerrit said after his visit.

The 25 minute visit included a guided tour of the facility, besides interaction with the staff and inmates of the school. He also discussed possible associations with Dr Inderjit Kaur, director, All India Pingalwar Society.

Earlier in the day, Skerrit and his team visited the Golden Temple. Republic of Dominica, an island country, has strong 15,000 Indian population, including a lot of Punjabis. Skerrit said, “We have a mixed community and respect and celebrate many religions and faith. So, visiting the Golden Temple was one of my priorities.”
