Roseau, Dominica–February 23, 2010…… Minister for Tourism and Legal Affairs, Hon. Ian Douglas has told stakeholders in the Tourism Sector in Dominica that their mission must be to “strive to be the best”.

In his first public dialogue with tourism stakeholders since his reappointment as Minister for Tourism in January 2010, Hon. Ian Douglas noted that Dominica as a tourism destination, would never be able to compete on the basis of price or accessibility.

Roseau, Dominica–February 11, 2010…… The benefits of Dominica’s long relationship with France were highlighted by the President of Dominica, His Excellency, Dr. Nicholas Liverpool, D.A.H, O.C.C on the occasion of the Presentation of Credentials by new French Ambassador to the Commonwealth of Dominica, His Excellency, Michel Prom on Wednesday.

The negotiations between the Dominica Public Service Union (DPSU) and the Government of Dominica represented by the Government Negotiating Team which is made up of the Secretary to the Cabinet, the Financial Secretary and the Chief Personnel Officer (Ag.) commenced on November 13, 2009.

At this meeting the Government Negotiating Team explained that the current global economic and financial situation of the country was a significant determinant in developing Government’s proposal for the 2009/2012 triennium. The other major determinant was the need to restructure the public service to increase efficiency. This is being done through a Human Resource Consultancy which is currently ongoing.

Roseau, Dominica – December 16, 2009 ………..  The Waitukubuli National Trail Project has reached an important stage with the resumption of Construction Works. Trail Construction works have begun on segment ten (10) Colihaut Heights to Syndicate.

A number of persons from Colihaut, Dublanc, Bioche and the environs started construction work on Monday, December 14th.

Construction Works began today, Wednesday, December 16th on segment one (1) – Scotts Head to Soufriere. Persons from the villages of Scotts Head, Soufriere, Gallion, Point Michel and the environs within  the vicinity of Segment One(1) have been recruited to work on the trail.

Farmers to benefit from zero interest loans through AID Bank

Roseau, Dominica – December 15, 2009 ……..In recognition of the role the agricultural sector plays  in maintaining an adequate level of food security and its role in supporting and sustaining the lives of citizens in the rural areas, the Government of Dominica has made an initial amount of $2 million  available to the AID Bank for lending to farmers.

Roseau, Dominica – December 15, 2009 ……..In a tangible demonstration of its commitment to carefully utilize Dominica’s water resource for generating income and job opportunities for the people of Dominica, the Government of Dominica has signed a license with Sisserou Water Inc for the export of Dominica’s water.

The signing ceremony, which took place at the Financial Centre last month, was attended by Minister for Public Utilities, Energy and Ports, Hon. Charles Savarin, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Energy, Mr. Lucien Blackmoore, a Director of Sisserou Water, Mr. Atherton Martin and General Manager of DOWASCO, Mr. Bernard Etinoff.

Roseau, Dominica – December 15, 2009 ……..Following written requests by Dominica’s Prime Minister, Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit to the Organisation of American States(OAS) and the CARICOM Secretariat for election observers to observe the December 18th General Election in Dominica, officials from the two organisations have begun arriving in the country.
