Biden considering ‘alternatives’ after OPEC oil production cuts | USA TODAY

President Biden says the White House is exploring alternatives after OPEC’s decision to slash the amount of oil delivered to the global economy.

President Joe Biden said Thursday his administration is looking for ways to lower gas prices after oil-exporting countries announced plans to cut production by 2 million barrels a day, a move that will likely raise prices at the pump. "We are looking at alternatives – we haven’t made our minds up yet,” Biden told reporters at the White House.

Biden also said he doesn’t regret his trip to Saudi Arabia last July in which he met with the crown prince, Mohammed bin Salman, despite objections from human rights organizations. The trip was widely seen as an attempt by Biden to get the Saudis to ramp up oil production to lower gas prices.

Biden said the trip was about diplomatic issues in the Middle East and Israel, but that OPEC's decision was nonetheless "a disappointment and says that there are problems."

  1. If only the US had an ally nearby with massive oil sand reserves where production simply needs to be expanded to provide the US with all the oil they could need without resorting to the need to kowtow to dictators and murderous regimes. If Only
Thank goodness they cancelled that pipeline to Canada.

    1. Yup, Trump was right the US and Canada need to get their oil and export to allies and not rely on hostile nations with their own interests.

    2. @Mikel Brenn then why do you think world will use usd as reserve currency? This would have killed petrodollar long back and usa would have been ended in hyperinflation at that time. Anyways it’s happening now.

  2. It’s a copy paste of my grandpa just roaming around not really sure what is going on or how to answer questions. I can’t believe this was my only option.

    1. Trump was your other option. I know Trump wasn’t a great alternative but it’s best to lay down our ego and admit he would have kept us energy independent and gas prices wouldn’t be fluctuating as much.

  3. A man named Donald Trump told the US and its allies to make sure they are energy independent but they all laughed at them. Citing that clean energy and Green Deal (exporting pollution to other nation) is more important.

  4. He has failed at every turn. We gotta get rid of this guy and every other politician who supports him. I’m voting for the conservatives because we cannot let things get any worse!!

    1. @Christopher Ben Israel bush and Cheney sucked among the worst but Biden and Harris giving them a run equally suck I’d say problem tho is Biden just getting started in his tenure unfortunately.

  5. Never mind this trivia. Can we talk about racism and homophobia now–the “real” problems that savvy Americans voted in Biden and Kamala for?

    1. Hey, he gave us the ONLY Supreme Court Justice in US history that CAN’T tell you what a woman is!
      What more do you want?

    2. @Dan B Nothing. He did a bang up job with the Saudis just now, as well. He asked for 500,000 more barrels and left with minus 2 million. Impressive. What a negotiator; what a statesman!

  6. 🤣🤣🤣🤣.
Sure I mean who could have though that a sanctions on caping the oil prices from Russia being inforced through tanker’s insurance policy, forbidding any insurance on tanker’s with any oil at a higher price than what USA or EU dictate should be the correct price would work, that was going to affect all members of OPEC, not just Russia.
And as all OPEC members are in essence allies of Russia, that’s USA Lulu land sanctions backfiring!

  7. That’s what happen when you call an alley a “parayah” (the whole population of Saudi wants this moment) – most of Saudis love the US people though, sorry but your current president is expired

  8. Well, we could try increasing our own oil production.

    😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
    Sorry. Bad joke.
This is democrats we are talking about.

  9. Technically America doesnt need opec, America has the ability to produce and be independent and not reliant on them or anyone else, but it goes against the green agenda and therefor, the green ideology has expectations that are not realistic and thus America is no longer a major producer! The laws they create are not beneficial to the country and therefor does not make sense, so, how about exclude production from the green agenda laws and not be dependant on others and also bring our prices down! The green agenda should be focused on the energy grid that is powered by multiple products from solar to windmill and water and storage of the energy, basically multiple layers of energy formats, bringing it to people over time as this takes time to do it right!! The infrastructure is not there, unless you magnify the wireless charging idea on a grand scale, basically a form of tesla tech, and charge the basic citizen a flat rate fee of one dollar a month which would amount to 258 million or more a month, as that is how many adults America has, and that is more than enough to do some cool things!

    1. It would take years, if it even can be done. The US is a failing economy, we don’t have the money to improve our oil production, our energy grid, or even pay the basic US operating costs.

  11. Everything trump said that debate has happened. My how far this country has fallen in just two years under the radical democrats . Vote for common sense, vote for your kids ,vote republican.

  12. Where’s the Green energy now? When your leaders want to be green it means higher gasoline then domino effect until food price goes up as well. While they can afford to buy the gasoline in their car the people struggle to pay for it.
