President Joe Biden said he remains hopeful that the U.S. and China can work together during a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

"The world expects, I believe, China and the United States to play key roles in addressing global challenges from climate change to food insecurity and for us to be able to work together," Biden told Xi. "The United States stands ready to do just that – work with you – if that's what you desire.”

The meeting between the leaders of the world's two largest economies is happening on the sidelines of the G-20 Summit, which is being held this year on the resort island of Bali.

Leaders were expected to discuss simmering tensions between China and Taiwan – a self-governed island that Xi has a strong desire to bring under mainland control – as well as Russia's war in Ukraine, which will soon enter its ninth month.

    1. Sad thing is. I don’t trust Biden no more than I do Xi jinping. Hard telling what kind of deal Joe making with him.
