Brittney Griner’s wife: Actions to bring her home don’t match the rhetoric

Cherelle Griner, the wife of American WNBA star Brittney Griner, told CNN's Abby Phillip she wants US officials to do whatever they have to do to bring the basketball legend home — and she needs to see them do more.

  1. Simple solution, dont do illegal activities especially in freaking Russia AND during these times. Did she not take a second to think while she was there?

    1. @CCJJ160Channels Ahh, you assume Russia has “presumption of innocence” like the US. That’s cute.

    2. @CCJJ160Channels aaaaaannndd? It doesn’t matter. Their country, their system. You take the trip, you take your chances.

  2. As a law graduate she should know the importance of following the laws of foreign countries. Moreover, she should understand the basics of international law.

    1. @Bobo Brazile What a Goofy Reply. I never said I was sure she was innocent. I never said other countries don’t use extortion?

    2. People in comment sections always have slick opinionated comments until they make a mistake themselves, then they want sympathy from everybody.. Most of y’all would’ve been scared or crying if you were in this situation, and you know it..

  3. Why Russia? Were North Korea or Cuba not available? US businesses pulled out but she thought it was a good idea to go to Russia?

    1. In fairness she went there before all the trouble started and was arrested before everyone pulled out….Indeed at the time of the arrest the State Department weren’t advising against travelling there.

  4. I keep hearing “wrongfully detained”??? Did they place the drugs in her possession…..am a lil confused🤦‍♀️

    1. @Jack L. Well a guess she didnt know all that when she choose to go there….that ultimately she could be a target for being framed…..owell….a victim of circumstance….sad to be just handpicked….smh!

    2. @Jack L. Am astounded by Americans knowing all this or should have made themselves privy to information travelling to these countries but they blindly step into….real silly…..or we do what we ought not to do…or you suffer the consequence…if found guilty…..like anywhere else in the world

  5. Why is it when they do these interviews they never ask her about the drugs ? And why did she want Soo much privacy in the beginning

    1. @Brett Cooper it is 100% illegal in the USA to take any amount of drugs on an aircraft and transported across state or country lines which is the definition of smuggling🤷‍♂️ that is federal territory

    2. @A taste of reality And does TSA regularly enforce the laws regarding thc vape pens? The answer is no they do not. And just because the laws are not heavily enforced in the US does not give you the right to use that argument in a Russian court.

    3. @A taste of reality In July 2021, New York airport police announced they would no longer seize marijuana from passengers either, unless it exceeds the state possession limit of three ounces.

    4. @A taste of reality Seattle-Tacoma Airport allows adult passengers to carry marijuana in amounts at or under the state’s legal limit. An airport representative confirmed that state possession laws apply both before and after passengers pass through security checkpoints.

    5. Right I find that very strange
I was wondering why wasn’t I hearing about Britney’s case I didn’t even know she had a wife until 3 months after Brittany had been the lockup
It’s noway in this world you going to have mine and I don’t speak out about it
I’m feeling some kind of way about Britney’s wife I hope somebody can help me see her in a different/better way

Everybody fans friends family let’s not forget about BG

  6. When u break international laws ur subject to their justice system, how could a educated American make such a foolish decisions, over what cannabis oil, nobodies fault but hers

    1. I was shocked to learn that they take weed so seriously over there considering Russians in general are pretty 🤪

    2. @I got 5 on it atleast they’re not overly obsessed with made up gender and sexuality.

  7. She broke the law of a foreign country, what makes her special? She can sit out her 10 years like all other criminals do.
    Karma always wins.

    1. . A lot of american sports stars love russia and they are treated like kings there. By the oligarchs . They may think they are above the law as like I said they are treated way above the average russian who lives in poverty.

    1. So, why are you so certain the allegations are legitimate? I mean, as you say, it would be insane for a giant black lesbian to traffic drugs in Russia, and yet she’s a top tier athlete so insanity is pretty much off the table. In fact, your position suggests either insanity or prejudice or political insincerity on your part, at least one of the three. So, which is it?

  8. I just don’t get it. She wants special treatment? Don’t break the law wow abroad! Now she is a political pawn

    1. Boring story and nobody cares. We can afford to lose a female basketball. See you in 10 years.

  9. The entitlement of these folks is astounding. She broke a nation’s laws. Laws that were on the books. There is a war going on. 10s of thousands have been killed, millions displaced and the State department is supposed to use its capital at this time? To help another entitled celebrity. At least the trial will bring this to a close

  10. It is very unfortunate what is happening to her, but she made a huge mistake, and there are consequences for stupid actions.

    1. He should have framed a wealthy white businessman then. If he thinks framing a black wnba player is going to get him any leverage he hasn’t been paying attention to what the US is.

I dont think hes that dumb though, I think she brought weed with her.

    2. Not as big a mistake as outlawing a substance less dangerous than alcohol or prescription meds.

    3. @Synathidy I dont disagree with you that outlawing weed is absurd, but its their law. Not agreeing with it doesn’t mean you don’t have to follow it, unless you are willing to suffer the consequences.

  11. This is what happens when you’re spoiled . You brought drugs into another country …….. what do you expect 🤷‍♂️

  12. The same people that hate the United States, are now trying so hard to return to the United States. LOL 😂

  13. I’m just as miffed about griner’s detention as anyone who sees putin as a threat to freedom but the fact of the matter is if the wife thinks it’s a simple matter to resolve then she should get busy resolving it.
Griner was caught entering a foreign country with an illegal substance.
Ain’t nothing gonna be easy about this.
Settle in for a long ride.

  14. Your wife was in another country, traveling with drugs and got caught

Idk if anyone has told this lady but we have bigger problems to deal with

  15. The simple reality is Griner is the most minor issue among minor issues in the overall landscape of international realpolitik. Griner’s spouse is either being exceedingly naive or feeling unbelievably entitled. At present, Russia has nothing to gain by releasing Griner and the US has no leverage to make that happen. Griner’s not going anywhere.

Just a thought: has anyone considered the possibility that Griner may just be guilty as charged?

    1. @donfully Fair point, but what leverage does she have? Even if the USA does everything it can, Russia’s not likely to budge until they get a solid benefit out of it.

And again, has anyone considered the possibility that Griner may just be guilty?

    2. @Jun Heceta Another thing, the interviewer is not being fair, when in another country you follow their law’s not those where you come from stop portraying this as “ooppss!! I did not know, wrong answer you just got caught.

  16. My rules for travelling:
    1) Don’t travel to Russia
    2) Don’t travel to a country at war.
    3) Don’t travel with a vape pen full of cannabis oil.
    4) Don’t blame Biden when you do 1-3.
Americans forget that our laws and rights don’t travel with us.

  17. The US needs to put all their might and focus on this poor victimized person She wants to talk to the president President needs to clear his schedule for a week and get to work on this. All the other US poisoners in Russia are on their own LEAVE BRITTBEY ALONE!!!!!

  18. Rule 1 don’t break Russian law and expect to be home the next day – she needs to be held accountable!
