I can understand old age playing a factor for collecting a lot of stuff, but why isn’t the daughter helping with cleaning up ? You can’t expect your 71 year old mom to do everything !
My mom is 80 and does everything.

While I’m glad the dear person sold her home, the agent could have tried to inform the family of the benefit of a thorough cleaning. Her stuff could have been put into storage until the lady was ready to let it go.
Public ridicule of what is obviously both a mental and physical health issues have no place in a professional business environment.

This story is focused on the description of the house and how it might have been a little strange. How about the fact that a 50 year old HALF OF A DUPLEX in TERRIBLE condition is going for a starting price of $260,000!? What the hell is anyone trying to get into the market supposed to do? THAT should be the focus of the story. The housing market in the country is absolutely insane and here in a story about real estate, we are talking about the listing description. What a joke.

260k for a duplex isn’t outrageous. No one is buying houses cash they have these things called mortgages, the mortgage on a 260k house with literally any amount down would be extremely reasonable lol
@Dankvis 260k…. for a place that needs a total gut… with skyrocketing costs of construction materials …. in Eastern Passage NS with current BOC rates…. “extremely reasonable” is subjective.
@Dankvis 1st time buyers need 40% down payment- that’s $104,000 down payment, before replacing all the windows and doors, as well as the roof just to start. How much would that cost Mr. ‘Expert’ ? Extremely reasonable- unlike your sensibilities.

In the area I live in Canada 260k will get you a condo of around 600 square feet.

If you signed off on the description (which they admit they did), then that’s what it is.
Not sure if it was suggested to have some of the items removed from the place before listing or at least don’t show the piles of storage in the listing photos. That may have helped.
But humor can work. I’ve seen similar type ads for vehicles on Kijiji, etc, and it does generate interest.
Someone should help this poor lady instead of mocking her.
