I completely agree with Mr Lewis 100% some decisive and robust action is required to tackle the problems we are facing.
His idea of vehicle being taken away for one traffic violation is ridicule . More police present is a good idea
Ok, I get what Mr. Lewis is saying or trying to say HOWEVER an arrest for a traffic violation is wild. The system needs to be modernized AND utilized. Because mi still nuh ovas how one driver alone have all 100+ tickets.
Fix the system from the root, like licence buying by persons who do not understand the first thing about driving nor road rules.
@WEHAVEWHATYOU WANTENTERTAINMENT so what your argument does is give way to mine that you’re less likely to misjudge what you can and can’t do IF you have the correct training and understand the capabilities of your own vehicle and calculate all the other variables in order to make that decision. If you cause injury, then there are penalties for that given the situation. What it comes down to is the perception and definition as it relates to reckless driving. Also, as I clearly said, given that there is a “clear opening”. If the way is clear, you’re not on a corner, you’re not approaching a corner and you have clear sight for the distance required to safely pass, then pass. I don’t think a driver should be penalized for making a SAFE judgement call. That’s why in some cases officers are allowed to use their discretion in conjunction with the laws. Change the culture via laws that are current and applicable to today’s settings, follow up on things like tickets a revocation of licences, change the mindset of the people. It won’t stop accidents but it sure will bring the numbers down. Notice I didn’t even touch vehicle seizure? But jail for an infraction especially with no record of reckless driving, is excessive.
@Lex Nel You keep saying first offense as if ONE offense isn’t enough to seriously injure or kill someone. Drivers that received their license the lawful way, STILL violate traffic laws; so that won’t change anything. Only with stricter rules will we see a change. Also, if you are following all of the driving rules you shouldn’t have anything to worry about.
@WEHAVEWHATYOU WANTENTERTAINMENT What you’re doing is treating a driving offense with the same level punishment as other crimes. That’s not how things work and that not how it should work. You want them to treat a driving offense almost like robbery or murder. And that simply cannot be. I didn’t say that persons who violate the law are ONLY those who acquired their documents the correct, just like how you didn’t say that countries with these draconian laws sees zero violation. You’re just simply stuck on let’s take the punishment to the very far end of things. And that mentality of “follow all the rules and have nothing to worry about” is a fallacy. Simply because that’s not how life works. Here’s are my examples. Twice in my life that I can point to where I was rushing to a family emergency and I didn’t even remember about road rules. I wasn’t being idle nor was I racing. Now, rushing to that emergency, had the police stopped me, I explained the situation and they seized the vehicle or documentation pending my return to the station after the emergency. Should I then be thrown in jail? Or should they have taken me to jail upon stopping me initially no matter what?
@Lex NelThe topic is about not following the road rules are leading to deaths, so thats what I’m talking about obviously. I clearly see by your statements that you engage in bad driving and that you would like to continue to do so with little to no consequences. Your reasoning behind engaging in this behavior wouldn’t and shouldn’t make a difference if you hurt someone in the process.

My original statement addressed “traffic violation”. Not having on a seat belt is a “violation” as well, should we jail persons for that as well? Even in my own emergency situation I caused no harm. The thing is you seem to live in a world that doesn’t facilitate reality, so much so that as opposed to answering a clearly asked question posed TO YOU, you chose to deflect. You can’t even separate “bad driving” as part of ones normal behaviour from what I clearly stated was an emergency, so that would be a false equivalent. You seem to think that society is in black and white. But the world doesn’t operate that way.

Yes, speed kills, However, dangerous driving does not necessarily mean that someone was speeding. I believe more accidents are due to dangerous driving rather than overtaking the white line. Taxi & bus drivers are known for dangerous driving. In addition, the choppers! That’s another story.
Dangerous driving often include speeding and incorrect passing…most deadly accidents are head in collision because of overtaking and unsafe speed
Mr Lewis you are behind time, what the Government needs to do is to install more cameras, more speed cameras, more speed average cameras and more monitoring cameras, that will release police officers to carry out other duties. The cameras monitor the roads further more the speed average cameras let you know the time the motorist arrives at any given time from say, one traffic lights to another, that motorist would receive a ticket as the speed limit was breached. It is pointless having police officers standing on street corners watching traffic when cameras can do that. In the UK traffic tickets are rearly issued by traffic police it is all done by cameras even illegal stopping and parking are done by cameras, you get your ticket through the post if you don’t pay within 7 days the price of tickets goes up, if you dispute it you have 21 days in which to prepare case for court. Under no circumstances the government should even consider amnesty these taxi and bus operators are the most inconsiderate, indiscipline and dangerous drivers on our roads they are responsible for the carnage we are seeing on our roads. The law is very clear you receive a ticket you pay, why accumulate tickets then ask for amnesty, those who accumulate tickets should have their licence suspended at end of suspension they should retake an advance driving test.

You gonna arrest motorist for that and takeaway their vehicle. That’s a traffic violation not criminal act. Jamaica needs more police in the force .

While I am agree with the launching of the program in schools I think they should start at a young age, because when a young man reaches the age of 15 on make is mind to do wrong there’s not much anyone can do.
