These days it feels righteous to proclaim, “trust the science (insert favorite insulting name-call).” But science has a dirty underbelly whose precincts favor the big-pocket, for-profit industries. Monsanto GMO & the story of Indian farmer suicide is but one tale. These giants make their own science. To spell it out, it begins w/universities, when a bright or eager group proposes to research if GM food is healthy or harmful, the univ could simply deny $ to fund the research, or could undermine it. Industrial science (cosmetics, fertilizer, bio-agribusiness, pharma, etc.) is intimately woven with universities. Any jeopardizing or threatening research is side-lined. Human nature everywhere, even in the exalted world of science.
It means we have a HOT MESS going on.
