Chris Hayes Podcast With Michael Lewis | Why Is This Happening? – Ep 101 | MSNBC

Amidst the coronavirus pandemic, the federal government’s catastrophically inadequate response, and the uncertainty that hangs over us all as a result, Chris decided to do something a little different this week. He wanted to revisit a conversation that feels extremely relevant and prescient right now given the state of the country. Prolific nonfiction author Michael Lewis, the man behind “The Big Short” and “Moneyball”, wrote an amazing account of what happens when the keys to the White House are handed over to people who have no idea what they’re doing. Now more than ever, it’s important to hear not only about the Trump administration’s attacks on crucial federal agencies, but also about what becomes of the dedicated civil servants trying to keep the government – and country – running. » Subscribe to MSNBC:

  1. God bless you, Chris. Thank you for always reporting the facts in a frank, if not sometimes scary, manner.

  2. It would be nice if all this was just an elaborate computer simulation created to see what would happen if Donald Trump became president.
Then we could all come out of the simulation, it would be the year 2016, and we would all know NOT to vote for Trump.

    1. You should have know not to have voted for Trump; what made you think this was a good idea?

  3. From this moment on it’s all about, “How can you support an administration that does not keep us safe?.

  4. This is fun. Why is this happening? Cannot find common ground without different perspectives. Why does a seed planted grow into food?

  5. thoroughly enjoyed myself. The two of you make such an intellectual exchange incredibly light-hearted yet enriching!

  6. Excellent. Man is Lewis smart. Buy the book. Thanks Chris for having a great guest as well as your own well thought out insights.

  7. Kia Ora Chris. Thank you for your pod cast.
I don’t know what is up with America or is it the culture, but makes me Angry & very embarrassed.
The major failures of the meat industry when other countries have a clean record with a surplus. Yet America who hasn’t been a leader of the free world since the Bush administration are not following or even investigating the success stories or is it arrogance, blindness, embarrassment, capitalism, the mighty dollar which is like oxygen or is it because they are competitors & America treated them badly?
Take New Zealand for example, a competitor along with Australia, virus free in the food supply especially meat, why? Plus with a higher minimum wage $18.10 per hour, is cheaper & less fatter. Industry on skeleton crew & boarders weren’t closed before America. A virus free Airline with cargo capacity. Why?
So why? Sorry America failing big on this that is the embarrassment & shows decades of failed leadership. Yet obvious alternatives to put food on the table. What is up with us?
After some easy research it came down to one thing, health & safety with a mantra of “you have the right to go home safe. ”
Just think this, you are holding a sharp instruments physical distancing against accidental injuries or damage.
They had physical distancing years before the virus, that one thing saved them, keeping things virus free. What has America got, how much you can get out of one tiny square foot of production, squeeze more money out yet increase costs.
Sorry I have become aware that America is so indoctrinated that it’s now being coming & considered a failure way before Trump who sadly exploited the truth & we are having a harsh reality check for Americas karma debt, through decades of disgusting foreign policy.
Another catch cry from American styled shooting in their country & told the NRA to back off
Kia Kaha (inner strength) we need big time to change which is simple but not easy.
    Rebuild paradise.

    1. Dark forces in America took hold the day JFK was assassinated November 22, 1963……I remember that day I was 15 years old!

  8. I’ve heard this before. I remember the “band around the tree story.” Re-release or am I having intense deja vu?

  9. Also, states and local governments have the primary responsibility of providing for their constituents.
