Chuck Schumer congratulates Raphael Warnock on Senate race win | USA TODAY

Sen. Chuck Schumer took a moment during his press briefing to congratulate Sen. Raphael Warnock on his win in Georgia.

When Sen. Raphael Warnock defeated Republican challenger Herschel Walker, it diminished the power of one senator being able to hold up legislation and gave Senate Democrats and Majority Leader Chuck Schumer a sweep in the midterm cycle. It also marked a political anomaly – despite headwinds against the party in power, every Democratic Senate incumbent won.

Warnock winning also puts Democrats in a better position in the next Senate election when the map will favor Republicans, former President Barack Obama said during a campaign stop last week. Schumer, whose caucus held onto all incumbent seats and picked up Pennsylvania, was gleeful during a Wednesday morning press conference, knowing Democrats will control all Senate committees in the new Congress.

"Good things come to those who wait," Schumer said, noting that this year marks the first time since 1934 that each Senate incumbent of the party in power won their race. "After one year, 10 months and 17 days of the longest 50-50 Senate in history, we have 51 – a small majority," he said.

  1. 6 more years! Congrats to Warnock and every Democratic Senator for maintaining their seats. Also, congrats to Biden for being the 1st President since FDR to not only maintain every 1 of his Party’s seats in the Senate but also expanding their majority. This means if either Thomas’ or Alito’s seats on the Supreme Court open up Biden will be able to nominate a 2nd Supreme Court Justice that the Democratic majority Senate will vote on.

    1. And this is good how? Crime up, inflation up, drugs pouring into the country, housing up. What has Biden done good for the country so far

    1. @Dave Mathews f off. Your worried about spelling, there is corruption going on right in front of your face….
