The calling of witnesses is premature. After both sides present their case, the Senate may move to immediately rule on it or dismiss it if the Dems case is determined to be to weak to pursue.

If it starts at 1:00pm and you have to use 24 hours in 2 days then on the first day you’d have go till 2:00am because on the second actual day you can only get in 11 hours from 1:00pm to 12:00am.
Also it give the team that goes first basically a filibuster allowing them to talk the whole time running into the 2 day limit before there 24 hours are even up
