The impact from Monday's devastating earthquake in Turkey and Syria was evident in drone footage from the area shot as frantic rescue efforts continue.

The death toll is expected to rise from 5,000 for both countries as freezing weather and multiple aftershocks hamper rescue efforts. There were a few unconfirmed reports of victims requesting help from beneath the rubble. In addition to the devastation and loss of human life, World Heritage sites and thousands of structures have collapsed.

“The images we’re seeing out of Syria and Turkey are heart-wrenching,” UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell said. “That the initial earthquake happened so early in the morning, when many children were fast asleep, made it even more dangerous, and the aftershocks bring continuing risks."

    1. @kirk cavenaugh that’s just your opinion, not everybody else.

Right! Lol, idiot. Yes, true to that, LOL!😂

  3. Next time a “libertarian” complains about building codes – unconstitutional!! undemocratic!! tyranny!! – show them this.

  4. I feel nso sad for all these families. Especially the children that are recover and have no family left

  5. Very sad. I believe more people will be rescued. As long as everyone continues to lend a helping hand. If you can’t be there, praying, donating money or supplies all can help!

“A person who has no faith in life is like a sailor who has fallen into the sea, and will sink in the sea until he perishes. During the 1989 earthquake in California, the father had only one thought: “My son is waiting for me.” He dug for 8 hours, 12 hours, 24 hours, 36 hours, and no one came to stop him . His face was covered with dust, his eyes were bloodshot, his body was tattered, and blood was everywhere. At the 38th hour, he suddenly heard a child’s voice from the ground: “Dad, is that you?” Dad shouted : “Amanda, my boy!”.

This story shows that although miracles make us very lucky, the ability of faith will produce great power. People want to succeed in doing things, they must believe that they can succeed; Have the belief that “I will definitely be able to change my habits”, and learn to use the power of the mind to completely change myself. This is cultivating the mind.” – Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door Master Lu

  6. This is very sad. The building structures look not strong enough just looking at the debris, steel and foundation. I know 7.8 is such a very strong quake but the government must revisit its law on building construction and structures…meaning, all high rise buildings must have the capacity to withstand such a powerful quake in the future. Japan is a very good example of strong building structures when it comes to deadly earthquake. I hope they recover very soon.
