Finding ‘Hope, Through History’ During The Coronavirus Pandemic | The Last Word | MSNBC 1

Historian Jon Meacham reminds us that, despite our current struggles, we have benefitted from generations of sacrifice and resilience. "Memorial Day is obviously set aside for a particular kind of commemoration for the people who gave the last full measure of devotion, but let's not look back and think, 'They had it easier, our problems are uniquely oppressive.' Because it doesn't do justice to what they fought for and what they fought against." Aired on 5/25/2020.

  1. Our only hope is that we get new fresh ideas and a new fresh government of the people by the people and for the people not the rich elite

@don honky “Euthanasia,” in its Greek derivation, means ”good death.” The word is generally used for actions taken to facilitate the deaths of those who are already dying, and has long been a subject of debate for physicians, moral philosophers and the general public.”  Robert Jay Lifton

    • @Sovereign Butterfly so what you’re saying is your taking the vaccine??

    • Sovereign Butterfly | May 26, 2020 at 10:55 AM | Reply

@don honky I’m staying away from people as much as I can!

I have to take anything my doctors suggest, it is part of my healthcare! Do I have a choice with the way my healthcare is? It is not the same as your healthcare!

My healthcare is primarily funded by a foundation, regular healthcare is not the same. It is much different than everyone else’s!

The healthcare foundation who stuctures my plan began by someone getting beaten to death by an angry mob culture!

      It’s not the same!

I’m saying I have strict rules governing my healthcare!

    • @Sovereign Butterfly wish you a happy long life x

@don honky Thank you! I appreciate it very much and you the same! Everyone the same!

I also wish for fresh and even younger leadership in USA. Hope Joe picks a younger VP. Kamala or Dr Rice. Or others.

Anyone is better than Punk Trump.

Ash Roskell Outstanding piece you wrote Ash. Actually you rightly pointed out Joe would not have entered this race if not for the current demise of the great country America. Very very good point. Did not think of it that way, but you make sense Ash.

What do you think of Dr Susan Rice or Senator Kamala Harris Ash. Which ones do you like for VP Ash ?

America. Sister-in-law lives in Reno Nevada.

      @John Lightfoot,
Hey John, you do know that you’re having conversations, if you can call it that, with mentally ill, fake news junkies who know absolutely no truth about anything don’t you!

    • John Lightfoot | May 26, 2020 at 3:07 PM | Reply

Rand Kocher Fox News sycophants & bootlickers are my favourite, as it is easy to make them angry. Most on Fox News are white racist supremacists.so they get their ire up quickly and have a thin skin.

MSNBC to me seem more normal people. But for me I am mainly against Punk Trump. Not so much the Republicans. It is Trump I despise. He is a weirdo and a fatty who lives on KFC.

  3. One thing is for sure: t’rump is definitely the worst president in US history.

  4. That’s all fine and dandy except that the old Western European colonial masters now have much stronger democracies than the US.

    • Wendy's Garden | May 26, 2020 at 7:35 AM | Reply

      because they have socialist democracies.

Only in America can a complete outsider acquire the highest elected office in the Land without first getting the ‘Nod’ from a higher level!
      – In my book, I’d say that proves America is the superior Democracy in the World!

@Rand Kocher Hi Rand, why not take a minute and read/learn what Neo-liberalism is.
You seem to not realize how you’ve been misled.
      Neo-liberalism.

      @Christopher Mink,
      Why don’t you tell me?
Liberalism and Conservatism are the two primary political ideologies, and everyone on Earth are somewhat one or the other. You can be an American Liberal, a Chinese Conservative, French Conservative, British Liberal, etc., but to say neo-Liberal doesn’t make any sense. Liberals make political decisions based more on emotion, while Conservatives more on logic, but how can a Liberal make a political decision on neo-emotional thought?

@Rand Kocher Why didn’t you look it up before you replied?
I’m giving you an F for not even doing the least bit of homework.

THAT is why American electorate are a joke.
      Abject ignorance.

Among America’s bigots, racists, sexists, homophobes, xenophobes and any combination thereof….you’ll find far more people WITH Republican leanings than without.

  10. Ash Roskell | May 26, 2020 at 3:23 AM | Reply

We must assume that the elections will NOT be the GOP’s one and only exception, and that they won’t try to rig, steal and intimidate their way to stay out of jail. We must be prepared to fight and sacrifice. Help get the vote out. Make the numbers too BIG to question. Restore our Republic and see JUSTICE done, by jailing the trump’s.

  11. History? Republican presidents of the present day bring bad luck to America and the world.
9/11 and the financial collapse of 2007 under Bush junior.
The declaration of hoaxes on climate change and the pandemic under Donald Trump.

  12. Look at the bright side. We now have a gold standard for the worst president in history.

  13. Adam Świtlak | May 26, 2020 at 7:20 AM | Reply

I wonder how many souls could be saved if trump was impeached.

    • Wendy's Garden | May 26, 2020 at 7:45 AM | Reply

I have 48 postcards to Senate GOP going out today telling them they killed that many. There will be a reckoning, I tell them. I hope to be part of that reckoning.

  14. *We are a failing democracy (aka, a republic) because of 1) the electoral college, 2) plurality voting, 3) the Senate*
*Taxation without proper representation is theft. Do you know what they call a “popular vote” in other countries…a vote*
*We can ignore the hole in the roof…but, it will NOT ignore us. That is why, Trump (all other issues) is merely a symptom*

  15. Thank you again, Jon. 👏🏼🌱

  16. That’s the key, right there … give up ideals of yesteryear! 💥 Consider moving ahead.
