French President Emmanuel Macron slams Brazil’s president over Amazon fires

Ahead of the G7 summit in France, world leaders are sounding off on the fires raging through the Amazon rainforest in Brazil. A spokesperson for French President Emmanuel Macron said Macron believes Brazil's President Jair Bolsonaro lied to him in June when he reportedly promised to do more to combat climate change.

The vast majority of the fires have been set by loggers and ranchers to clear land for cattle. The practice is on the rise, encouraged by Bolsonaro, who is backed by the country's so-called "beef caucus." Bolsonaro has dismissed accusations of responsibility for the fires, placing blame on NGOs.

There have been 72,843 fires in Brazil this year, with more than half in the Amazon region, INPE said. That's more than an 80% increase compared with the same period last year. The Amazon is often referred to as the planet's lungs, producing 20% of the oxygen in the Earth's atmosphere.

It is considered vital in slowing global warming, and it is home to uncountable species of fauna and flora. Roughly half the size of the United States, it is the largest rainforest on the planet.

    1. @RicktRoll AMERICA is Brazil. Everything is fake news. You should learn the America’s history properly. Here is a good opportunity. “The name America (applied to present-day Brazil) appeared for what is believed the first time on Martin Waldseemüller’s 1507 world map, known as the Baptismal Certificate of the New World, and also America’s Birth Certificate.” ** Now you know what AMERICA is about ****

The european media is crazy, The corruption in Brazil is over, its bacteria

    2. Clown in CHIEF Bolsonaro is an idiot, but this is a pretext for protectionists measures against Brazilian agricultural producers. The facts:

      1. Macron and others are twitting fake pictures of fires (from early 2000s).
      2. “Day of fire” is fake.
      3. Small farmers are the source of burning.
      4. Fires and deforestation were much higher in the previous 5 governments (so all this commotion is a reaction to Bolsonaro’s stupid comments).
      5. When other countries in Europe, Asia or North America destroy their forests, there is no outcry.

  2. I must say thank you Mexico to sending air forces to help flight the fire and don’t give a frick about the president

    1. Simi822 Are you dumb? The Taiga is supposed to burn down and pollinate. The Amazon is not built for that!

    2. Janet Masiello HE LEGIT TOLD YOU THE THAT IT’S NORMAL FOR PINEFOREST TO EXPAND THAT RIGHT HERE 7:40! FFS! It legit irks me how ignorant people try to spread bullshit amongst themselves without trying to google it first.

    3. @Cloud you Da Silva Again see my comment. Plus I’m pretty sure Cnn or any american news source of that matter are afraid of criticizing Russia.

    2. It isn’t Bolsonaro’s fault, the loggers who burn it are criminal, he just give permission to companys like FaberCastel, wich plants all over again

  3. The forest absorbs enormus amount of water during the rains. No forest will result in enormus floodings, this will lead to erosion. The end result will be poverty.

    1. Yeah totally burn it all down so u can save a few hundred people we should care more about the whole world that’s why we supuse not burn down LET THOSE FEW HUNDREDS S DIE

  4. It doesn’t matter if you believe in climate change or not. WHY TAKE THE CHANCE?

It’s that simple. Why take the chance to see if the world will deteriorate?

    1. This. Even if climate change isn’t man made, do you really want to live in a world where we did nothing to fix it?

    1. @Owl Dusty hold up. If trump was a bad president then why didn’t he won. Oh wait I know why.

  5. I don’t understand why countries aren’t banning together dealing with this massive fire? totally bizarre!

    1. @Cheryl Sibson There’s a tremendous an unprecedented amount of injustice happening around the natural world today.
& there are forces at play that is doing everything in their power to silence voices that dare speak out at all, both online and real life, all coming down to their “bottom line”, or with intentions of harming another country in some way.
Paranoia and misinformation also leads many legitimate people down a path they’d probably otherwise not have taken.
Some tend to think that just because there have been cautions and warnings about certain problems for so long, that they’re nothing more than scare tactics, yet today we are increasingly finding stronger and stronger evidence to counter those claims.
They need only use their heads and learn where and how to look for themselves…
The problem I see is, many are unwittingly complacent with their own lives, too busy to think about the bigger problems in the world that are happening everyday. Too comfortable to make any drastic change that will interfere with the conveniances that are increasingly becoming a double-edged sword to humanity, as well as for many other plant and animal species on Earth.
It is too big for any one of us to make an impact, which is why it’s almost entirely going to come down to making political and governmental changes that will address these issues.
The world is full of opposing opinions on everything, what we seem to be short of is people that are willing to simply take in expert objective facts at face value, rather than “I think” economics.
If we continue to wait until the problem is big enough that it is actually effective those with the power to do something, those that are profiting off of inactivity, yes we will likely see change, but not at the cost of already so much that won’t be recoverable or fixable.
We can’t continue on this “monetary system” thinking either. I’m sure we can continue to use it in some fashion, but we also need to make a more balanced system that will even out the distribution of these resources that we already have in our economy, and as it stands nobody or no organization is hardly willing to take such steps…
It’s a complicated problem, that requires and demands a complicated solution, the sooner the easier, and better off we’ll all be.

This is all my personal opinion from what I’ve researched and witnessed… no doubt there are many that would be willing to pick this apart and object many points I’ve made, but I’m not the person to take it any further on it. I’m just someone that is generally concerned with how all of this is overall heading as of now.

    2. @Skull Kid which is why I imagine why skull kid isn’t your real name? well aware. Have a peaceful evening

    3. @Cheryl Sibson I have a separate account using my identity. Similar content and talking points on it, I just stay off of big media channels and troll havens on it for obvious reasons.
I apologize for the book I just posted xD I’ve been at it too long tonight.
& may you have a peaceful evening as well.
      Good talking to you!

    1. The Fibler A crisis like this is only helping to stir up the Left’s base and waking others up to the truth: that our current leader denies science and MUST GO. 2020 is going to be fight for humanity!

    2. And Trump will win the election again next year, so everyone is wrong and your right, cowards hide behind keyboards.

    1. Shelley Turner
      And if it’s true,
      I will surround you,
And give life to a world,
      That’s our own

    2. Parsa Rathernotsay no like have you literally been paying attention to what’s going on all across the globe?

    1. Y’all are acting like the amazon is all we breathe off of, we only breathe from 20% of it so we are not going to die if it gets burnt down, but it’s not all gonna burn spawn cause there’s more than 1 million miles of the amazon. I’m not saying I don’t care about the fire I’m actually extremely scared because one day I want to go to the amazon.

  6. People should forget greed and save Environment
Why will your children live after total destruction of environment.

    1. burned this time of year in Brazil is completely normal, you should study things better before you talk nonsense

    2. @Sir Loxley Mendoza Oh boy, not this stupid argument again. The Internet wasn’t a “capitalist invention”. Read “The Entrepreneurial State” book please. Why are Libertarians so stupid?

    3. @Sir Loxley Mendoza What you just said has to be the most asinine and the most ridiculous thing I have every heard.

  7. They’re driving the Natives out of their homes an entire civilization and forest. All of those trees 🤔😭😭 STOP KILLING OUR HOME. EARTH

    1. @armzngunz The same department that never did anything for amazon?? The same guys keeping native people as pets in a zoo?? This year has been better for amazon than the last 15 years, Macron himself used a picture from 1989 to blame Bolsonaro for 2019 problems. Also Brazil doesn’t have a lot of money to do much, instead of trying to screw our economy even more, not trying to stop it from growing would give Brazil more resources to keep Amazon safe, if you care so much about Brazilian territory. Anyway, we are doing better than we were in the past, but if some globalists need to lie about it, then I would be questioning their underlying motifs.

    2. @Alrun Ah cool, more regurgitating of “alt-facts”. Better for the amazon? How has it been better if the forest is still shrinking at record speeds? How the hell does your brain draw the connection that chopping down more forest will lead to the forest being saved?

    1. Vote for local and national officials who care about the environment. Stop buying from companies that pollute like nestle

    1. Honey, Brazil is the country that preserves the most forests in the world, fire has always existed, but we have to distinguish what is true and fake news. Then study before opening your pretentious mouth.

    2. They don’t care for the forest, they want the richness that Amazon has. According to NASA’s world view site, there was a much bigger fire happening in Africa and much more smoke but they already stole the entire Africa.

  8. Hmmm yet it seems no one is saying “let’s send parts of our military or firefighting agencies to help fight the blazes”

    Edit: except Mexico.

    1. William Baker, the Brazilians have endless slash burning for decades, now it’s a problem? Should have stopped it a long time ago.

    2. The problem is not the capacity to do the firefighting. The problem is the political will to let the whole thing burn down to open it up for economic development.

    3. A foreign country sending in military will possibly be seen as an act of war by the Brazilian government, thus starting a war with Brazil. Don’t say that the current Brazilian president won’t do that. He already said to France to stay out of it.

    1. Erykah Bititi it’s a thought construct, not any particular ethnicity that’s the problem…

Capitalism reigns as the planet dies…
