Haberman says George Santos coverage is a ‘death of local media’ story. Here’s why

House GOP leadership remains silent over Congressman-elect George Santos just one day before the New York Republican is set to be sworn into office. Scrutiny over Santos' long list of lies is intensifying as state and federal prosecutors look into his finances. Maggie Haberman and Errol Louis, who has actually interviewed Santos, join CNN This Morning to discuss. #CNN #News

    1. @1234 567 Unfortunately the Gop is still at it.. and are hoping that people can’t read between the lines.. as they falsely investigate their investigators.. 😆 🤣

    2. @Leo What about Nancy Pelosi??? We are talking about your friend Georgie Santos and his fellow liar your orange clown master.

    1. @Political FoolishnessBS. Specifically, list all the Dems who have lied about every aspect of their life . Specifically what evidence do you have ? Or are you the typical rethugulin troll ?

    2. They did. And they were cool with it. Until the liar’s cascade of life lies left the entire party exposed. That’s what they don’t like

    3. @Kendall Person just like Miss Madison Cawthorn. Having a pilgrimage to Adolf Hitler’s villa the Berghof was not a problem. But telling the world that the senior party apparatus propositioned him to join a cocaine and sex orgy and they turned on him faster than his cousin’s face turned to reach his lap.

  1. If this guy’s willing to go to these lengths to get elected, it’s highly unlikely that he’d resign the day before the con is complete. The GOP failed to preserve the last bastion of integrity in representation.

    1. Mind Begs the Question:
Hitler = Govts can be Sinister & Terrorists
      Govt – if given complete control over people,Digital Money,Face Recognition,National ID,Gun Control,AI Police..
      Secure system,Flawed system?

    2. absolutely. I am still amazed that people think, cheats like this will do the right thing. The only thing they do is collect and then move onto the next grift. Only I do not think he will live this down, too wide spread media now for him to ever hide. He will probably, if he does not go to jail for felonies, he will go to another country.

    3. The day after the news of his lies broke in the NYT article the heavyweight Republican lobbyist Henry Olsen wrote an opinion in the WaPo saying that Santos must be seated as the GOP need his vote. So right back then the fix was in.

    4. That happened long before this story, purveyors of integrity among them are named Liz Cheney and Adam Kinsinger, that’s it.

  2. The Republicans all of them, need to speak out against this person and possibly regain some trust from the American people. It’s ridiculous that we are even having this conversation because if I applied for a job and I lied on the application I’m not getting the job.

  3. All the GOP want are candidates with a pulse. Nothing else matters as long as that person is a yes “man”.

  4. I thought I would never see the day that someone could lie just as much and be as good as Donald Trump in such a short time.

  5. A sociopath will never feel shame! It’s just all a game for him. He’s not going to change, or somehow develop a conscience. This is who he is and will always be!

    1. The Pulse night club & 911 lies are straight up creepy, & wrong on every level. He is a sick man. Pathetic to not consider the threat he poses to our govt. but it’s them 1st, country later with republicans now. They better quit f’n around & find some decent candidates & come up with some actual plans to govern. I feel like we’re paying 5yr olds 100+ thousand a year to do nothing.

    2. @rahouser33 kind of like Swalwell sleeping with Chinese spies or Pelosi, Biden, Kerry and Romney boys on foreign energy boards where US tax dollars are laundered? That kind of threat?

    3. @Marvin martin Yep that’s the way it with those who think this way. They think that everyone is like them and that he is just better at conning, and lying than they are, just like the king of Mar-a-Lardo, T-rump. If T-rump were in a boat and it was taking o water he would throw his daughter overboard to save himself, he’s nuts just like this guy who has no place in our house of reps!

    4. @Green Bay noo, those are fake. I mean a real threat… like Jan 6 – try to over throw our govt threat like Trump & them ole Proud Boys & Oath crappers! Chinese spies! LOL ur funny Green Bay. I’m a raiders fan so 🤷🏼‍♀️

  6. From Day One, at my children’s elementary school, all students were taught that “Character Counts!” It was plastered in the walls around the schools. It was drilled into them their entire time in school. The school system has a code of character and ethics that students, teachers, faculty and parents are supposed to adhere to. We have lost our way as a polite, considerate and ethical society. Politicians, CEO’s Social Media “Influencers,” anyone 8:23 and everyone can just lie, cheat and steal their way to the top. Decency, good character and good behavior and frowned upon and derided as weak and pathetic. We have spiraled into unbridled chaos and little, if any accountability. Anyone can do whatever he or she wants and just “spin,” “Crisis Manage,” or “Lawyer” out of any situation. It is all disheartening and disgusting!

    1. @Rodney He lied about getting arrested while meeting Mandala. Lied about marching for civil rights. Lied about getting shot at in Afghanistan. Lied about serving in the navy. Lied about having an academic scholarship, being near the top of his class, and graduating with 3 degrees. Lied about working as a professor. Lied about the African American community being boring and not being diverse enough. I can go on and on.

    1. @Pete Smith he’s just pointing out the hypocrisy, and I agree with him, can’t take the high ground when there’s proof Dems are doing it also

    2. @anonymusum gotta love how you call out people for being trolls, but when shown proof,, silence 🤣🤣🤣

    1. That’s part of it. I think it’s also that the gQp is alright with lying. It seems to be a prerequisite to be in their party. That and love of money and power

    2. Mind Begs the Question:
Hitler = Govts can be Sinister & Terrorists

  7. “People that elect corrupt politicians, imposters, thieves, liars and traitors are not victims… but accomplices”. ⚔
    ~ George Orwell

  8. “Fell through the cracks?????” There is NO WAY a WHOLE campaign team missed all of these lies. Campaign managers or what ever they are called literally don’t even take on a candidate at that level unless they know everything about the person ( good or bad). Small things can be missed, yes, but not stuff like this. This is a clear example of a WHOLE campaign team and political party that decided to go ahead and do it because they knew that if the rival team didn’t catch it, they would get away with it. AND THEY WERE CORRECT!

    1. @Upper 90that’s actually hilarious! 😅. The same ole talking points you all never want to ever admit that the GOP never cared if he was lying they just wanted another seat. Joe Biden is the least of the GOP’s troubles

    2. @Upper 90 And what is your statement based on, thinking or saying that doesn’t make it so. They KNEW, how do you come to that conclusion that they KNEW. That implies that you know what they were thinking. So I guess you can read minds?

    3. @Dixie Longate another dummy who thinks president policies have no effect on the economy of the country he’s running over. My question is what do you actually think a President does 😂

    4. @Covers and Commentary the same GOP that just took the house and retired Nancy pelosi yeah I know they got real problem 😂

    5. @Rachel Garber so let me get this straight the Biden campaign manager didn’t know Biden belongs nursing home 🤣 everyone in the world knows Biden belongs in a nursing home

    1. You know what….you’re right. There is no bottom, and that places the party all on the same level, feeding off each other, and the oil salespeople are winning.

    2. @Ronny Skaar That was Herschel Walker! He did wave the badge in a debate with Rafael Warnock. The moderator told him to put the badge away as it was illegal to show props, especially when they are false. Thankfully Walker lost, and actually I saw the look of relief in Walkers eyes when he got up to say that he conceded the election. I don’t think Herschel was up to the task.

  9. There needs to be an independent organization that vets political candidates. McDonald’s applicants get more scrutiny! 🙄

    1. @Vatican Cameos The problem is that the people who voted for him were voting for a guy who didn’t exist!

    2. @Lorraine McFarland It’s kind of obnoxious how little our politicians are vetted. Then we wonder why they’re always lying.

  10. *Just so I understand this…*
It is against the law when lying to Congress and it’s not when lying to get into Congress.

    I see.

  11. It should not be up to local media to be responsible for vetting candidates. Should be a federal thing, with laws to prosecute frauds.

    1. @BlueLt It may sound weird or funny but my dad said the room lit up blue when I was born, so I’ll make an answer to BlueLt, or light blue? They were correct, however they now know the details and extent of the lies, and know they better do something about it and soon, or they will lose big time in 2024!

  12. I just watched a video about the local newspaper breaking the story in September, two months before the election.

    1. @cerberus01I think also because the Democratic party thought he had no chance to win they didn’t put money in publicizing it

  13. It would be interesting to see how his colleagues try to vet his statements if they let him into congress…
